- Sub 2! Pretty amazing how quickly I ended up getting this run, after saying how difficult sub 2 would be, and that I'd stop at a time before it. Really happy with this time, really proud of the effort that went into this run.
Started out not too great, especially with Falkner's shenanigans. Also had a slight hiccup towards the end of Ilex Forest which caused having to buy an extra repel. But damn the back half of this run was sweet, amazing E4. I'm sure this run will eventually be beaten, but hopefully it won't be for a while. I'm definitely moving on for now, but I'm sure some day I'll return, for this is a wonderful speedgame.

hg & ss is only better as games , because as a whole pokemon is way better now with everything that has been added , the only thing we need now is every game as full and awesome as the hg & ss games but with all the today's pokemon and attacks & all , and bam perfect game every gen.
Well and the fact that pokemon in 3D actually kind of sucks. Getting these giant impersonal emotes on characters' faces really tears you out of the story, like someone dies or a baddie steals a legendary Pokemon and all these giant heads are smiling like sociopaths in the background. At least with GBC through NDS, the 2D textures afford the player to just color everything with imagination and fill in the gaps.
But yea, overall pokemon has really improved. I think competitive is healthier, breeding is actually doable for casual players, etc. But the actual playthroughs for the games themselves were just trash in gen 6 and 7, and this was especially noticeable after they did such a great job with the storylines in gen 5.

For the HM debate, I think something he mentions is a really cool idea. What if instead of having to teach your pokemon an HM you can use the HM in the field so long as you have any mon that is capable of learning it.
So if you have a Charizard you can use cut, fly, and strength regardless of what moves it knows.
If you have a Gyrados you can use Strength, Surf, Dive, and Waterfall regardless of what moves it knows.

Another is to have the moves as Skills. You still need to beat gyms to access Cut, Strength outside of battle but now they're skills under a variety of moves.
Ie: you can karate chop, fury cutter, cut ect. to cut down trees
Tackle, headbutt, strength ect. to move rocks
Surf, bubble, (other water moves) ect. To travel on water
These are actually great ideas.

Vanilla Pokemon has always been piss easy since there's no real penalty for whiting out. Money is essentially infinite halfway through the pokemon league and it doesn't take much time to walk back to the gym leader. Granted, it's a game for children.

I want hm's to be changed into item for three main reasons
1) it fits the story of "pokemon are not tools" hm pretty much cheapen every time someone in game tells me i care for my pokemon
2) way more like a traditional adventure and can just be in the key item slot (meaning you could auto use it)

I want to add another point to the HM rant regarding Cut. I remember that you could use Cut to cut down tall grass, you could outright remove encounters at the price of one of 24 slots. You don't need to bother with repels, you can spend money elsewhere and just remove it all, it really annoyed me that they removed that

I always thought about the out of battle versions of HM moves just be held items. Instead of badges making you allowed to use them, those leaders just give you like the Surfing Gear. That way it doesn't take up a move slot, and you can easily put it on and off only when you need it.
It's kind of against the entire game's ethos that the Pokemon are the ones doing all the work. Trainers just... Walk around

I've been there playing pokemon since Generation 2 up to Generation 5, then I left because I didn't like the changings in Gen 6 and stopped caring about the franchise's new things entirely.
But I have to say that the newer changes, like the exp sharing and the ''nerfed'' breeding with EVs and IVs made the game much less boring.
You people don't lie, EVERYBODY was using Action Replay to speed up the breeding and pokemon finding because doing without it was just unbearable if you wanted to play competitively like I did.
Also, weird but true, I preferred the PMD spin-off series up to Explorer of the Sky (Best in my opinion) to the original one.
The exp share is in literally every Gen except Gen 2 though.

Can someone explain me the raikou manipulation + pokerus ?
A DS has an internal ID. This plus the date plus the frame = the RNG. Werster had figured out which frames on which dates on his specific DS give the best cyndaquil, a perfect IV modest Raikou in a specific grass patch, the master ball trainer ID and the battle with a pokerus check. Him changing the date and restarting the game let's him count the frames he needs to initiate grass encounters etc with predetermined results, if he hits the frame.

Here's my take on HMs: Ones like Cut and Rock Smash suck. They have very low BP and aren't practical so you typically don't have them. Cut is needed in some of the games (Red and Blue and remakes) but other than that, they are fine. Strength is amazing, Waterfall is as well, Surf is as well, Rock Climb is pretty good as well. Whirlpool isn't awful.

@@sudipbasak1633 Not hacking as it would involve changing the game's code ie Gameshark, Powersave, Action Replay. This is pure rng manipulation using frame perfect inputs before the game even starts to allow his trainer id to correlate to the winning lottery id of the in game date.

I felt that Ultra Sun and Moon were one of my most immersive experiences with Pokemon so I can’t really say Generation 7 was a bad generation. It’s almost up there with my favorites, Black 2 and White 2. I can’t really understand the the HM argument. I really liked that they got rid of it because I liked exploration and freedom so having to get a Pokemon to learn an HM when my whole party was full and couldn’t learn it was frustrating and time-consuming, plus you had to go to a move deleter to delete the HM if you wanted a better move. I can understand that it disconnected you as a trainer, and besides the Tauros scene, there are really no other moments that you can bond with your ride Pokemon(if they did that, that’d be great). But I did like the convenience of not having to pick my party Pokemon based on HM requirements. The Exp-Share thing was also justified, with it not having to be an item to equip and re-equip to certain Pokemon. I also kinda agree that it doesn’t make sense in the first place but switch-training wouldn’t make sense as well if you only put the lower leveled Pokemon out for the first turn. It’s literally just a mechanic to ease time-consumption that they tried to make better. I also can’t understand the Rotom thing because it was also a general improvement since, if you’re lost as a child or lost because you haven’t played in a while, Rotom can show you the main objective. There have always been paths in Pokemon that are blocked and I never found that annoying unless I needed to surf across. Generally the map was laid out good. I always thought the following Pokemon in the world was cool and I feel like they tried to do something similar in Ultra Sun and Moon because of all the Pokemon you can play with but there were bugs with the tracking so it remained closed in the 3d environment. With the story, I felt Pokemon stories were always pretty linear except the first few generations which did not have much story to begin with. Beginning in Generation 3, the teams were more than a thieving crowd. Motives drove the teams to do heinous acts against people and Pokemon in order to fulfill their illogical plan. You were always the hero to capture or defeat the Legendary Pokemon. They only changed the formula in Generation 4 with Cyrus and Cynthia taking charge. Also, in Generation 5 where N was a very important acquaintance like how Lillie was in Generation 7. Then, AZ in Generation 6 with the Ultimate Weapon allowed Lysandre to aspire to use it for his goals. In Ultra Sun and Moon, Team Rainbow Rocket really sells you how important the main character was in each corrupt universe they came from. Plus, Ultra Sun and Moon wasn’t too Lillie-centric unlike the regular versions. Generation 7 has some of the best gameplay for me since I usually enjoy it when all the quality of life improvements keep getting better each time a game is released. Things like pressing y in the menu screen for quick saving, limiting SOS chaining to an Adrenaline Orb use, Z-crystals, Roto-Powers, better animation, hyper potion balancing, move balancing, limited Pokedex, pressing y in the battle menu to throw a Pokeball, and more are things I can’t imagine how annoying or unbalanced the games might’ve felt without these things in the latest game. You might not read this but I believe it was a conversation worth having.
Strange, because these games actually felt the least immersive in the entire series imo. There's so little to go out and explore off of the beaten path, and the constant cutscenes really take away from the journey that I'm supposed to be having with my pokes.

From a competitive standpoint, Gen 7 was awesome. I just accepted that it was placed in a different region that had a different culture than the rest, kinda like how I accepted that Pokémon don’t follow you after HGSS.
Turn off the EXP share and enjoy the challenging long play. The trainers and totem Pokémon were a lot tougher(which is what people whined about in gen 6 and the first gen 7 games) so it’s not easy. The storyline was a little meh, but it set up the post game so well.
Congrats on this run though.

I personally thought at least Sun and Moon, were some of the best Pokémon games and brought variety to the game and was unique with how it shows a pre-league region and in my opinion, Gen 7 brought the best characters out of any generation, Kukui is my favorite professor and maybe champion (although Cynthia is freaking great) and Lillie is my new favorite Pokémon character while Gladion and Hau are great rivals, etc

In Gen 4 and earlier the added effort values won't come into effect until you level up. Unlike in later games when you get the added effort values immediately.
The amazing thing is that this can be done faster! If Bugsey's and Whitney's times improve than you can shave a few seconds off this, not like it matters though, Werster, you are just too damn good!

I agree with that HM talk. In most cases, if a Pokèmon can learn an HM, they should already be able to use its effects. Any Pokèmon that can learn Fly should be capable of taking you to a town, any Pokèmon should be able to use the effects of Surf, Dive, and Waterfall as long as they can learn them. However, in my opinion, Pokèmon should have to know any Damaging Fighting Move(except HP Fighting) to break boulders. The moves should still exist as moves for if anyone would want to use them, like Surf and Waterfall. Also, as long as a sort of “Slash” or “Claw” Move is in a moveset, Cut is an option. I’ll be a bit lenient, with moves such as Air Cutter, Steel Wing, or Sacred Sword. You get the point.
You would like the HM mechanics in Pokemon Insurgence. Some moves, like Surf, use an item. While other moves, like Strength, can be fulfilled by a number of different moves.
