Don‘t agree. Best player for me is Dang Qiu. He‘s playing on a very high level in every competition. His consistency is amazing.
But one thing is true. Patrick is in a great condition and he can defeat anyone of course also the top Chinease. If he continues to play at this level, he will establish himself in the top 10.

@faizanrizwan786 I understand. I like Timo Boll too. But he already had 6 singles entries for Olympics whereas Franziska had 0 as far as I know. Only the one doubles entry last year. (Correct me if I'm wrong)
Dang and Franziska are clearly the top two players in Germany right now and it's a shame that prestige and status overshadow talent and current results in tournaments
+ Franziska is 30+ and getting his chance denied for his first singles entry in Olympics after he did his best and went on a "I'll prove them wrong"-arc to show he deserves a spot on the team as a starter is simply a biiiig slap in his face.
Just my 2 cents and I believe a lot of people share the same sentiment
While it may seem "from recent results (during the course of this year)" that Franziska should be chosen for the Olympics, I can think of a logical reason from the coaches' standpoint as to why they chose not to go with him.
Yes, he probably (most definitely) has a better record against the Chinese this year than Qiu/Dima/Timo.
But in my view, the coaches may have decided to put him as No. 4 as Boll has a better record against the crucial opponents of the German team, i.e. Harimoto and Lin Yunju.
Considering that China is most likely going to get Gold, my suspicion is that the German team's priority is on ensuring that they don't lose the Silver medal at least, which is why Germany's chances against the other top teams like Japan/Korea/Chinese Taipei is very crucial.
But looking at the records, Franziska has (almost) never beaten Harimoto and Lin Yunju. In fact, some of the score lines are unfortunately not very flattering. And if I recall correctly, Franziska lost to Kao Chengjui as well. On the other hand, Boll has shown that he is able to take down Harimoto and Lin Yunju. He also has the wisdom to manage technically strong opponents like Lin Shidong, Jang Woojin and Lee Sangsu.
Yes, Franziska had a good run at a recent WTT tournament, reaching the finals and beating Jang Woojin on the way. But the following tournament after that, he lost to Jang Woojin.
In short, I suspect this decision was made as the coaches are of the view that the other 3 may have better consistency.
Would be keen to hear others' thoughts on the above.

Schon extrem bitter das Patrick Franziska nicht bei Olympia dabei ist. So sehr ich Timo Boll schätze...und einen (zudem aktuell angeschlagenden) Dimitrij Ovtcharov. Die letzten Ergebnisse sprechen so deutlich für Patrick Franziska. Sehr schade und für mich und für viele andere auch, leider die falsche Entscheidung.

I can understand Timo because Timo will still arise to an occasion, but if Dima was picked over Franzizka, that’s crazy.

As a german to be honest, i think it was a fault from Roßkopf. Franziska is in his Prime. His Backhand is top 5 in the World and he improved his forehand massively. Boll and Dima arent looking really fit and on top. This game showed that one more time.
I know Franz knows him well and was purposefully keeping it to his backhand, but seemed like Timo was struggling to step around for the forehand. Lots of mini unsuccessful torso adjusts to try to get a forehand block in. Wonder if he just feels like he couldn’t move well.

I was hoping Timo would've thanked everyone for choosing him for the team, but decline it and say that Patrick is more deserving.

This was not the „normal“ Timo. He seemed to be tired and exhausted. He looked like me when I have a hard competition on a saturday evening and have another competiton at the following sunday morning.
But ohne thing is true. Every four players deserved it to play in Paris.
@@TTF_GW_Elsdorf I kindly disagree, he is old and has become the main roadblock for table tennis development of runner up players. Sorry it’s my opinion. He plays soft strokes and due to him two generations of players were seduced into playing Tenergy 05 on the forehand. Not playing harder rubbers which require a much better physical condition is the single most important negative influence on modern non-Chinese TT. With the rise of Dignics 09c we immediately saw Europeans competing against Chinese players and winning. And it wasn’t Timo. He couldn’t harvest the possibilities with his limited stroke forehand technique and weak physical condition at his age. His nomination is a big mistake and a disservice to Patrick‘s recent achievements
@@theMuritzWhat I only want to say is that Timo was obviously exhausted. I saw him many times playing for Borussia Düsseldorf and his physical strength was much better than what we saw yesterday.
My knowledge about the rubbers you spoke over is not good enough, so I can‘t answer to this but everything you said about this sounds very reasonable. I agree to you that his topspins are far not that hard as Patricks are. But it seems to me that he make his wins often with the small points.
Nevertheless was I surprised that Timo was nominated in case of Patrick. But it has to be said that Timo won a Contender (where he beated several world class players) before the nomination and the absolute great success of Patricks second Place was right after the nomination.
So it‘s not „a shame“ that he was chosen as our 3rd man for the olympics.

This is a shame even at Saudi Smash we could see that the only thing stopping Franz from beating Wang was himself. Had he had more confidence on the first two sets he would have won that title.

@@silversurfer6821 I don’t think it shows corruption. Rather the DTTB is traditionally centered around Timo, which is a big mistake given his age. He is a disservice to the sport. He didn’t want to be a replacement player and Rosskopf and others supported him blindly. I think Timo is only concerned with squeezing a few more Euros from his sponsorship and setting a record with his 7th appearance at the Olympics. He gives shite about TT or fairness, otherwise he’d step back.
Jorgen Persson has done 7 already so not a record unless in Germany perhaps.
