try starting a york 2.4, my mate had one in a MK2 transit. It took two batteries to get it going!

Timing needs to be advanced slightly. The pump wears with time and they need advancing a tiny bit regardless of timing pegs fitting perfect or not
it is a diesel.....no timing there
