I have a problem with this camera-LUMIX G9- while filming a video clip that shows me the lights flashes because I requested my camera from Amazon and it is an NTSC version and I am here in Saudi Arabia and we are here PAL Is there a way to remove these flashes or the way to change the system from NTSC to the PAL system

Hello. Thanks for all the reviews. Great videos and i have watched more than a bunch so far and i liked your reviews. It would help me immensely if you answer my question. Is G9 good for shooting videos indoors with available light (No studio lights). This is what I intend to do. My focus is to interview in given situation and lights indoor. Please do answer if this camera can cope well in those dull lighting conditions. Thank you🙏

@@TheHybridShooter really you think so I'm just wondering if I'll have the capacity to do some okay video work. Both Olympus and the G9 have that great function of high resolution and I also like the bulb feature where you get to see it happen I don't think Fuji can do that but I could be wrong and maybe that high-resolution doesn't care compared to the APC. is the really tough choice. I also like using a lot of old 16 mm C Mount lenses.🤷‍♂️ but I can probably just get a used micro 4/3 cheap for that have you ever messed around with the original 4/3 there's a new interest in them again. Have you ever tried to put any of the old 4/3 lenses on micro 4/3. People talk about about the original lenses being incredibly well made thanks for the feedback

@@TheHybridShooter There is one minor flaw, although perhaps it's just my model: the battery grip shows some play when I'm using heavier lenses. I feel like it should have two points of connexion. Apart from that, it's perfect :)

@@fellowcitizen Yep, a minor tic I've noticed too. As long as I don't man-handle the thing, doesn't bother me. And I still prefer it to other brands where you have to take the battery door off and shove that thing up there. Easier when you want to work without it.

@@jd_99 What cameras did you abandon them for? So often comes down to personal tastes and needs. For my work, headshots and portraits in (mostly) controlled situations, I certainly don't find the IQ lacking. They (my G9 and G85) also suit my video needs as well.
And I've heard Fuji's called a lot of things, but never a hipster toy! :)
And I'm thinking of grabbing an Olympus EM-10 mark ii for street photography now, as it's price has dropped so much.

It’s going to take me six months to go through everything that this camera has to offer. This is my first real camera. All my other ones were point and shoot. It’s nice to know I can grow into the G9. I also see he uses Luminar 3 as well. I got that too, it’s a fantastic piece of software. Still looking for a prime lens. Maybe a Panasonic 1.4, I think that would be nice, but they are expensive. Okay, enough rambling on.

That pretty much concurs with my experience over last year. I too got the G9 almost immediately after it's launch (december 2017). In my case I decided to get rid of all my full frame gear after years working with it (I've been doing photography for over 40 years with all kinds of cameras, even large frame cameras). And I haven't had regrets for one minute. Maybe if you are into low light action shooting most of the time you might need full frame (or larger), but the past year I produced images in most circumstances, some of them quite challenging. I found the G9 to be a very reliable work horse that produces great images. Of course the right lens is important as has always been the case with any camera. But in many circumstances the G9 produces great images even when used with 'consumer glass' and with greater ease than my full frame gear that really needed top glass to produce good results. So actually in that sense the G9 is a bargain as well.
Also tried the Sony A7 III. Great image quality, but not that enthusiastic about the handling, but that is personal preference. Nice small and light body, but then again I would need a bunch of heavy large lenses and adapters while I was just so happy to get rid of all that heavy gear. So I stick with the G9. From the endless list of cameras I had or used over the years I would pick the G9 again. It's just that good. I just got back from a trip to the Atlantic cost of Andalucia (Cadiz, Barbate, Tarifa) and the results are fantastic.

I have never enjoyed using a camera more than my G9 and GX9. The G9 is my go to camera all the time. My Nikon
810 is seldom used now and it feels old fashioned. The camera is comfortable and very sturdy in my hands, and I am 71 and have used hundreds of different cameras since I was 7. This is the first system that feels like real quality. The images are just fine for 13-19 prints with little post processing. Low light theater work sometimes needs a little noise reduction, but the camera is quiet, even with a the mechanical shutter. I use the GH5 for theater video as I have to adjust the shutter angle to avoid banding with led and regular lighting mixed. The electronic shutter works great for sports though I prefer to peak of action shoot and use the mechanical shutter.

Really like your no-nonsense videos, and this is a great summary.
Just one comment. At 11:22 you say that the playback button no longer has a delay on firmware 1.2. That's not my experience - I still get a significant delay, and there was no mention of that being fixed in the firmware release notes. Perhaps what's happened is that you're now using UHS-II cards and that has improved the speed. For me using regular UHS-I cards, there is a delay of at least a second with 1 card, slightly longer with 2. It's frustrating as the G80 managed to do it near instantaneously with the exact same card, so I don't know why the G9 is so much slower. At the very least I wish it would keep just the last shot photo in a buffer for instant access to check or delete. I hope they can sort this in the next firmware update.

Great 1-year summary review! Especially with your background by not being a LUMIX ambassador and indeed having a A7iii you still constantly recommend the G9. I think this is a big advantage of your reviews because you could easily say that A7iii is better.
I am searching now for alonger time about the best hybrid camera for not tripod use for photo and video. No other systems seems to be acceptable for run and gun video shooting because of their insufficient IBIS. Also A6500 is pretty shaky in comparison which is an alternative in my opinion .
There is a just a m4/3-is-dead-mentality right now out there which unsettled me and probability other people.

Thanks for a great update review! You love your G9 and what's not to like? I own it and love it. While the Sony A7 III and Fuji XT-3 have stolen the show for 2018, the G9 often is depicted as an underdog/sleeper bargain by many CZcams reviewers. Unfortunately, Panasonic's video AF reputation still seems to be a stigma for many people, even though there have been great recent improvements. Another knock on the G9 is the smaller sensor, even though the outstanding IBIS can reduce high ISO usage. Learn the G9 and there won't be much you can't do with the camera. The G9 is truly a great all around camera and thanks for your knowledgeable long term review!

Great to see a long term owner review and not just some tech reviewer using it for 3 days!
I've recently been assessing which camera to buy for product photography and casual use and out of the Sony A6500, Fuji X-T2 & X-T3, Sony A7ii and the G9 I eventually went for the G9.
I don't photograph in low light so I don't care about a larger sensor...
The combination of huge (and quite cheap) lens selection, usability, IBIS, pixel shift feature and cheaper prices just made it an obvious choice.
As a total package it's a no brainer (MANY will disagree!)
I doubt Panasonic can squeeze anything else from the M43 system though, so it'll be the S1 next...

There is still room for improvement in M43 though, like implementation of 14-bit RAW, AI features for DFD autofocus, RAW video in GH line and so on, so I hope that Panasonic will continue pioneering these features in M43 system.

I have tried a few of the lenses you mentioned at a Panasonic event, nice but there seems to be questions about repairability that makes me wary of getting them. But I must admit my Oly 12-40 and 40-150 pro lenses work very well on my G85 and focus just as well as my 14-140 and 100-300.

On the battery grip the AEL/AFL button is flush and hard to find, forget about it if wearing gloves. Love the joystick for moving the focus point around and my first dSLR the Canon 30D had it back in 2007. Feels really good in the hands. Curious to see the the replacement for the G9 will be like. I thought you should know that your content regarding the G9 has played a huge role in me getting the camera. I bought it last week as an update to my GX85. I needed the extra assurance offered by weather sealing and dual card slots, for work. You've provided me with extremely detailed information that was vital to making the right choice: do I stay with M43, or move to Fuji? In the end, glass won as I have invested in M43 glass over the years. I thought about switching to APS-C and the X-H1 had what I needed. But at $1500 with a kit lens, it's $500 over what I paid for my G9, and I already have good glass for it. Your content made me realize that there's more to photography than a picture with slightly less noise, particularly when shooting hybrid and on a budget. Sorry for the long post. Just wanted to say THANK YOU.

Thanks for your 1yr review. Doing handheld 1sec telephoto shots is my favorite party trick to troll my Nikon buddies. I’ve done a lot of wildlife shooting this year with the G9 and it’s never let me down. It’s had salt water splashed on it dozens of times, rained on, dropped in mud, laid onto “tripods made of snow,” and kicked into the bottom of a dingy running away a bear. The G9+telephoto excels in backwoods hunting with a camera. The only problem I have is the rubber in the corner of the thumb rest has lifted, not sure how to glue back down.

Great video! It's nice to see someone do a review after a year of use...
Just a few things I'd like to reflect on:
    * Color science. Panasonic has had fantastic color science for almost a decade as far as I experienced... Even back in 2010 when I picked up the LX3 for travel, the colors were just amazing. After going pro, I still look at the pics and amaze at the color. Yup, just make some minor adjustments in post and image is done!
    * Auto Focus. I hate it when people focus on this issue. These people need to get a point & shoot instead of a tool like the G9. The G9 is at least a level or two better than my Panasonic GX8 and I've been very happy with the AF of my GX8. With video and especially stills. When you tune the AF, it gets even better.
    * Lenses. Yes, the Panasonic-Leica lenses are absolutely fantastic! People hate the costs... But if you're a serious enthusiast or pro, there is only the Olympus Pro lenses as a possible substitute. Great lenses but not optimized at all for Panasonic. They also have a different look. Excellent but different.
Great camera and review! Can't wait to get mine! Keep up the great work!

Ibis and hi Res modes are phenomenal. I loved using it in a recent trip to the Cairngorms National Park in Scotland. Handheld 1s exposures of waterfalls and the light weight made hiking with my 100-300mm lens a breeze.

As an Olympus shooter I am extremely impressed by the ergonomics of the G9. I love the ergonomics of the E-M1 Mk II but the G9 is even better in the hand, perfect size and with lots of actual, real controls that are missing on most cameras no a days (AF choice switch etc). Not to mention the menus and the touch interface, Olympus, come on, take notes! (Well actually all other companies should take note). The only thing holding me back from adding the G9 as a second body to my m43 is the fact that part from the lovely PL 25/1.4 I have only Olympus Pro-line lenses from 12mm to 300mm and while I believe S-AF is still very fast with those, I am very sceptical to the C-AF which is already struggling on the G9 with Panasonics on DFD lenses for fast action (birding, wild life and sports). On the other hand, C-AF is struggling on all m43 cameras still, even with PDAF so... :)

    Rasmus

Not sure if I've worded that correctly, but with the GH5 you are able to do video using the full sensor, or, if you desire, there is the ability to choose to film with the sensor cropped. This, in effect, gives you additional focal range as you are punched into a fraction of the complete sensor. Thanks.

    • @TheHybridShooter

Nice review. What I really don't get though is the idea that you don't need good ISO performance with M4/3 because you can use lower SS thanks to the efficient IBIS. That can be true in most static scenes but as soon as you have moving subjects you just need to use fast SS and therefore higher ISO. Which is why I looked at Olympus' OMD-EM1II for birding but I had to abandon the idea because of the relatively poor ISO performance. I mean, it's nice that small sensors can provide good results these days but I think we should avoid to broaden false illusions.

You should try the Olympus 12-40 2.8. I absolutely love it!

I prefer Panasonic alternatives because of the DFD, dual IS and profile corrections.

I used that lens on a trip once and loved it. Just bought a G9 and that lens to give it a go again

The Hybrid Shooter I actually switched to the RP right after I responded to this video. I don’t do video so the full frame option was better for my needs. But I loved the G9

Didn't you have any problems with the rubbercoating on the cardslot door? On mine that is already comming lose and has expanded.

Thank you. I am wanting to upgrade my G7 to G9, unfortunately the G7 doesn't hold much trade-in value. A Panasonic can certainly shoot above ISO 6400 if needs must, it does take on a pleasant grainy fast-film look. Use it when otherwise you would loose the shot. There are tricks to play to lessen the noise; the default NR is quite aggressive. My GH4 will burst raw+jpg everything focussed indefinitely at full speed, or at least until I got bored at over 300 shots; you do need a fast SD card (and some makes are far better than others); I've never managed to fill the buffer on that one. I like to do as little post as possible; set the camera up to do the job first, it generally has better firmware than any software can massage back into a picture.

I don't think so, the colors fall apart at ISO 6400 unless it is very low DR scene.

Mine apparently struggles when the temperature falls below -5 or so. It doesn't shut down but the software starts lagging and glitching. I've had to take out the battery a couple of times to reboot it (I waited for 5 minutes at least for it to refresh the frozen software but nothing happened).
Other than that I agree with everything you said in the video. The camera is really worth the money and is a camera not getting enough attention.
    Keep up the detailed videos!

Great timing. I just sold my GX80 because it was too uncomfortable for me to use and thinking about the G9 as a successor. You convinced me that this is still a good choice.

Great video as always. I was wandering do you talk in one of your video more about the various setting of the autofocus? Is it possible to have various settings for autofocus saved or you need to always change them on the go ?

    • @TheHybridShooter
      @TheHybridShooter  Před 5 lety

Than you, you can save settings to custom modes on mode dial, otherwise you need to them on the go.

Hello Dude thanks for amazing content on MFT. Can you let me know about the PAL/NTSC versions of this camera as I'm planning to buy it for photo/video. If I buy Pal version will it be limited to 4k 50fps instead of 60?
