After the burning Roseburg Lumber Mill collapsed in the town of Weed, fire spread rapidly to the north. Fueled by 25 mph sustained winds, it raced for Lake Shastina...wiping out neighborhoods on the way.
An incredibly low 5% humidity was recorded in the region. The #MountainFire near Gazelle is adjacent. If more resources were available, it's possible the #MountainFire might have been contained soon after it started. However, the severe threat to life and property of the #MillFire naturally took #1 priority.
The weather forecast is dire - red flag, low humidity, high winds.
The region can be thought of as high-desert, grassland and scrub / pine forest. 0% containment as of early morning Sept 3rd.

Heard of injuries but no loss of life, good news, prayers for all of the displaced people because of this fire. This seems like another case of the perfect storm, hot dry winds, low humidity and dry fuels with lots of spotting ahead. This type of conditions were seen here in Oregon in the city's of Phoenix and Talent and the Obenchain fire on the same day. Hope for the rains to be early without any lightening!

This is a great way of recapping a fire. It would be even better if you could add introductory titles and maps to tell us what we are looking at. Some of the notes provided below could be turned into introductory slides for this presentation and you could add slides to tell us about the different camera locations.

How did the fire get legs and flare up over by Gazelle?
I know Kangaroo Lake is over by Gazelle but this fire is living up to the name and jumping all over the high prairie or am I imagining things?
Everybody is talking Mill but my eyes are on Mountain.
Kathryn, although it's fabulous what you are doing for your communities helping them out of fires, I wonder how wetlands or maintaining wetlands might help the situation, so what's the problem with the " wetlands" in these forested areas? Are they not able to recover from fires?
