I'm guilty of overloaded bookcases. Yes multiple bookcases. We are all heavy readers in the house, plus a whole huge bookcase for homeschool textbooks and workbooks. My goal is to make a bookcase wall as a feature wall to help with the overloaded look of the multiple cases. Absolutely appreciate the other tips on clearing the clutter, thanks so much for sharing.

My grandma is a hoarder, but she is SO ORGANIZED about it. I don’t understand how that can go in the same sentence, but seriously! She has everything labeled and it’s all in a storage area in her basement, tucked away. Little clutter in her house at all. It’s crazy.

In the backseat of my car on the floor, I keep a decluttered box, I wait till it’s filled, and then bring it to the thrift store, it’s out of sight, only once in four years , I went back to retrieve something from the box before I donated. It’s funny once it is out of the home, it becomes unimportant to me.

I love shelf risers in my cabinets so there is no wasted space, and it’s easier to get things down. That makes room for me to get my blender, etc off the counter. Less decor makes it easier to decorate for holidays, simply. Then it’s fun, not a chore. Love your tips and cheerful personality !

We went from 2200 sq ft to 2800 and i love how much bigger it feels and i didnt put up hardly anything on my walls and im loving the few things we do have hung up. Moving was lifechanging for me. I literally vizualized how much clutter i truly had and got rid of all of it. Now we are just tackling some stuff in our garage that im selling and donating.

I'm in the same boat. There are about 20 photos on our refrigerator that I hate being there, but he won't even discuss it. He likes to look at them when he's in the kitchen. I'm thinking of putting them all inside one frame (with maybe clear plastic rather than glass?) and sticking the frame on the fridge. Then it would look much less messy & cluttered. (working on that now)
I also have tried numerous methods of organizing/tidying to find a method he's willing to use. I've found that open containers/bins or trays take less effort to put small items in, rather than containers with lids....so I use those whenever possible & he's gotten pretty good about using them instead of just tossing things on the counters/tables/desk.
A wonderful organization system is worthless if your family won't use it, so you have to experiment & find something they'll use.
I still get discouraged when I come home to a mess, but you have to pick your battles or you'll go crazy. Baby steps! Good luck!

When my kids were small I would take half of their toys and store them in a paper bag in the top of the closets. After a few months I would take the bag down and reintroduce the toys and would store the other toys. I had half the mess to clean up each time and they would be excited because it was like all new toys.

@@jenl.4051 what color did yall go with? We painted 2 years ago, but went with a Taupe (Sherwin Williams Taupe Tone) and it's nice, but definitely darker. We have solar screens on most of our windows so it darkens it even more. I dont know.. for some reason I'm just in the mood for light and sterile.. to make it feel less cave like. The tall ceilings do help, and we have a skylight. I think what I'm really wanting is to move towards light grays and away from all the brown we have..

Kitchen is always a work in progress. I have recently build a pantry cupboard in our informal dinning room to accommodate our can goods, pasta, cereals, snacks, Instant Pot and Kitchen aid Mixer.. This freed up a few cupboards for reorganizing and decluttering plastic ware to Tupperware. Making breathable room now for our glassware to dishes. The coffee pot and electric tea post is staying with four adults in this and two teenagers. Not a good solution of putting away right now living with teenagers that are distant learning and my adult daughter their Mom works from home. I have taken the magnets down. I have a small bulletin board with a calendar and a mail sorter above it. I can decorate this “center” if I want to. Decluttering is constant here. I think we will all continue to do this with young ones at home even more so now.

I love your different tips. I'm really hoping I'll be able to refrain from buying too many decor items once we're in the new house. I'm thinking by living the minimalistic way in the rental we will really be able to see how we don't need and can get rid of a lot prior to moving in our new home.
Also, another thing I like to do is switch out my clothes, along with shoes, for the seasons. I put away fall and winter clothes in the spring time in a bin and switch them back out at the beginning of fall to free up room in my closets and drawers.

I never liked them in the first place but a lot of people do. I find them so distracting. Also another tip get rid of your mail! I travel and move a lot and honestly everything important like bills or newsletters are all online now. I literally never get mail unless I buy something online or it's an old-school card or letter. You can get off of junk mail lists to. Unsubscribe from emails to while your at it!

    BILLS
Choose online statements, payment of bills by bank transfer,
Pay credit cards by bank transfer - either minimum or full payment
    FILING
Folder for each category - utilities, etc - and file the piece of paper when it comes in.
Create a budget - so empowering and a kind of financial decluttering!!

Your tips are great, maybe tone down the hand gestures, it's a bit distracting from what you're saying.

I put all my donations in a black bag so it doesnt give me a second chance to re-look what I donated. Once its in a bag, its gone
