MODULE 4 QUESTIONS HAVE CHANGED AND BEEN UPDATED. PLEASE VIEW OUR 2017 DRIVER CPC MODULE 4 VIDEO. • Mod 4 Driver CPC 2019
One of the questions for the LGV Driver CPC Module 4 examination could be selecting and using appropriate restraining device for a specific load. There are a total of 4 devices that could be used, including ratchets / webbing, chains, load tensioning and roping. The examiner will tell you what load they want you “secure”. This is a simulation and you will not actually be given a load. Once the examiner tells you the load you select the correct load restrain and demonstrate on a trolley (with anchor points) how you would use it. This video should give you an idea of what you might expect. For formal training visit www.nolgvbrokers.co.uk or www.eptraining.co.uk

The Dolly knot had always fascinated me,since the years I helped out on Rowlands Fair, and I watched Albert Rowland tying down tarps with that knot. He could do it so fast,it was unbelievable. I still even now think of it as one of the most fascinating knots ever invented. Thanks for the video!

I was always taught a knot _veeery_ similar to what folks call a “dolly knot”, but the way you make the loop is different. I was taught by both my father and grandfather (who was in the Navy for years!) as a naval knot. It does the EXACT same thing, and while a dolly knot is already fairly easy to take apart, it’s still even _easier_ to take the knot I was taught apart.

All in all a good video for the new start. Dolly could be single or double, a second dolly could be used to make a rope hook where one is missing. The ratchet strap can go either through and up or just down.Excess rolled into a circle and tied off using itself.

Thanks to E P Training I took my national & international CPCs in 1990 and sailed through both. This video is a lesson on how to please an examiner who has probably never done the job, not how to secure a load. I would never fix a chain to a hook, only the chassis, and only fix a strap to a hook when the chassis is not accessable, ie over the 5th wheel.
No criticism or offence is intended to the instructor.
It also worries me to think someone driving a 44 tonne truck needs to be shown how to use a ratchet strap!

I have seen your video on what to use on ratchets and they way you use the left over of strap in the wind they blow loose and look untidy so to stop this thread the left over strap through the handle and fold the loose strap in about 6inches and put it under the handle before locking the handle strap they never move and look better ok ..they say by some comments that old drivers have bad tips but after 50 years I have had we could offer so much i had 30yrs driving out of swiss and to Russia and many other countries at -40 in Russia and i saw on of the other videos of an instructor say we dont use rope I think he was trained by the Army or so cos thats what they would say and i dont know any sheet on a flat bed that can be secured by ratchets alone ... take care stay safe I forgot when you made the hitch with the rope you locked the rope by going over it twice but when you do that you can't pull the rope you have to undo each one by hand but that tip is the old hand showing you sir

+roop298 Possibly too late but since no one else answered... Tied correctly a dolly knot should be simple to undo. Simply slacken the rope around the hook until you can unhook it, but don't pull it all the way through the knot, then take the tail of your rope and pull the loop back through the knot and everything will fall apart back to one straight piece of rope. Hope this helps.

I did roping and sheeting for thirty years but if i left a 'dolly' knot with a massive loop like that i would'nt have lasted thirty minutes! That was'nt a 'dolly' you showed either, it's a double 'dolly'.

Should be done on trailer where to anchor hooks not on actual load as it looks.

+Joel Liddle It is the candidate who chooses the appropriate restraining device and one of these could be rope. This could be used when roping and sheeting. However it is OK to use the ratchet if preferred.
