HEY!! I so value your opinions and since I too love the foyer but thought I could save the feeling and vibe of what I loved so much but also making it a little more open maybe it would be horrible to lose it 🥺 SO LETS VOTE ... thumbs up for keeping the foyer and laying things out a little different. Comment if you like the more open floor plan.
Love the more open floor plan. Keeps a lot of the original character but opens it up and will be more functional, beautiful, and likely increase your property value when you go to sell. But always go with your gut!
I like the open concept!
Keep the foyer but add some French doors You can make it amazing!
Love the open concept!
I love the open floorpan!! Your plan is beautiful with all the light that is going to come in with the added windows, its going to be beautiful to see all that sunlight !!
She's playing Sims in real life I love it
That’s literally what I said when she mentioned moving the house back! 😂
This.
My dream
With motherlode
Crtl+shift move_objects on
Ctrl+shift rosebud;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!
I feel like it's a bit odd to walk right into the living room with no foyer or place for shoes and coats. The foyer was the best part!
That's what I thought too. It seems to be a common thing in America? I have yet to see a house or apartment here in Sweden or the rest of Europe (at least in the northern and middle parts) where you open the front door and directly enter the living room ...
@@sabinekarlsson8803 I believe in more “warm” countries it’s more common.
In my country,Cyprus, which is an island with 8 months of summer and a bit of a winter , no snow, we enter directly in the living room . I prefer it to be honest 🤭 I guess is what people are more used to , they prefer it . Excuse my english ♥️
@@sabinekarlsson8803 I’m in America and unfortunately newer homes are built with “Entryways” which typically consists of a small closet for coats and shoes. Typically older homes here dated 1800’s to 1940’s have foyers which makes them so charming and my opinion more functional. I had to reply lol my grandmothers name is also Sabine. 😊
She will have a place for shoes maybe if she has a separate entry. Especially if she ends up with a garage
“You can pick up a house and move it.”
_is shooketh in European_
For real! I was like "wud?"
no wonder their houses go bye bye whenever a stronger storm or hurricane comes around
"Is shooketh in latinamerican" 😂
😂😂😂
@@cruelaz hurricanes, tornados and earthquakes also take down brick buildings. They aren't safer. Natural disasters just aren't common where you live so I guess you wouldn't know.
I would do the floor plan completely different. I would keep the foyer and the two rooms in the front as guest room and office since they are near the street and would prefer to have rooms that are used less at the front of the house. Then I would take advantage of the big doors at the back of the foyer and use those as a grand entrance into the main living area where I would have a kitchen and living room area to the garden. Then you would have a big open cooking, living, indoor/outdoor entertaining area near the backyard. And this way you would keep the charm of the entrance and front area.
Great idea! Living spaces and garden all close together for spring/summer! 😍
Literally the best idea! There is even a bathroom already for the guest room!
@@antonellabassi3466 yes, and all the rooms that are less for "hanging out" or less used are near the street.
@@blossomsandbundles I think bathrooms I would also completely renew, tear down, salvage what I can and build a completely new one. Old bathrooms are so hard to restore haha :D
@@heylilahey Wasn't there a really cool closet in there though? The three doors were a bit much though from what I remember. If they need to change all the pipes anyway then I guess it doesn't really matter. Not really knowing what room that extra door goes to, I wonder if it went to the back porch originally and maybe there wasn't even a bathroom there in the first place.
I’m so surprised you’re blowing out the walls of the entryway! I thought that was the reason you wanted the house. Maybe keep that wall up and add french doors into the living room?
100%
I'd be sooo sad to see that foyer go - it's so stunning and such a statement that you won't see in other homes. It's part of the historical charm and I'd really regret seeing it go :(
Keep the foyer please, the foyer gives character to the house. In the future all your guests will love it. You have a lot of space, built a new kitchen or living room 🙏🏻 but in the other hand I'm so excited about this.
My best wishes to you and Romeo.
NOO not the foyer 😭 that’s what makes it so unique.
My thoughts exactly 😭
But as long as she‘s happy 🤷♀️🙈
I love the whole thing, but I could never imagine going inside and step right into the kitchen/living room. Where would you put all the shoes and jackets? Do people in America don’t have a landing area by the front door?
And yes also it’s the whole soul of the house. KEEP THE FOYER!
@@tutolsson3590 she said they main entrance will be off the kitchen so all of that would go there and not by the front door.
@@Jessa8891 Well, she said that they would use the back entrance when carrying groceries. Still doesn’t make sense to me not to use the main entrance.
If she likes the double doors and transom she could cut the foyer in half and keep them as a entrance to the house with a hall tree and bench, or other pretty plants etc. Should not loose it all together.
Nooo not the foyer 😭😭 that’s the best part of the house. Can’t you put in French doors on the side or big arches so that it feels open but keeps that beautiful entryway
Don’t change the foyer ,it’s beautiful . the house is beautiful make changes to modernize / update but do t over do it you will lose the beauty of it ...
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, the foyer! I thought the whole point of an old home with character was that it's not yet another open concept home 🥺🥺🥺🥺 I believe she'll turn it into a beautiful home, but this was so special and different!
Seriously!!! I love when people preserve the natural charm of the Homes that they buy. Open concepts will be out of style in no time
Tell me how i knew she was gonna do an open concept 🙄😒 thats all the hype right now. I would keep the home looking the same with a couple of things updated like painted walls, new hardware, new floors etc. But she is changing it completely 😩 its gonna be like a brand new modern house even though she salvages old doors and windows 🤦🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️
I love her style so much, and if an open concept is what she wants, I'm sure she will make it look beautiful, like everything she does. We are not the ones to have to live in it, so it should make her happy... it's just that I'm SUCH A FAN of this home as it is 🏡🏡🏡🏡 it's an absolute dream!
It’s going to take the character and charm away
Totally agree! The entryway is what you fell in love with about the house, once you take out the walls it’s no longer an entryway it’s jus5 your living room,
I totally thought you were going to use those back shed/workshops for your DIY area rather than inside the main house!
Same! I don't get it
I’m so here for all of this!!! Can’t wait to watch this whole journey unfold!
Thank you 🥰🥰
If you are changing this many things up, then you should definitely add a little entryway! I always feel awkward when I step into a house and I'm already basically at the middle of the living room. Would be good to keep the shoes and coats in, you know, and people wouldn't step all over the living room space as they enter.
I totally agree. My house has the front door opening straight into the living room and I do not like it. I always wish for some little spot to set down my purse and keys when I come in, or set down the mail when I bring it in, etc. I end up walking in the door and dumping everything on my couch because it's just right there. Even a small foyer is so useful and gives a more graceful transition between outside and inside.
I agree...a foyer is always a good idea. I cannot stand walking straight into the main living area. It cheapens the feeling. A foyer makes more of a statement while keeping the extreme temperatures out of the main area. In Texas, it gets so hot, humid, and extremely cold. The foyer is a great idea!
@@lestranged I think MaCenna said that she and Romeo will spend most of their time going in and out of the kitchen/back door, so presumably she'll have that set up for keys/shoes/purses. I agree though that it's weird as a guest to just walk right into someone's living room.
Houses that are this old are designed to open up directly into a main room. The owners use a separate entry in the back which she has designed, this is almost always the case.
@@vs71597 But the foyer is original to the house. So it was designed not to enter directly into the parlor. Foyers were more common 100 years ago.
I bought a similar house, old cottage with lots of character, with add ons etc we basically have kept the house as is, but obviously we painted it, removed old carpets, update the bathroom sort off, replace stove, I personally don’t like to modernise it too much cause then it will be a modern house, I like to keep the charm😁 will follow along to see the changes!
As a swede I'll never get over the lack of functional entryways in the rest of the world. Walking right into the action feels so odd.
As a german the same
Same!
When you don’t have winter, it’s not as essential. I’m Canadian so having a proper porch that’ll keep the slushy snowy mess contained and stop the cold draft from whipping through the house is essential. That said, often front doors might open right into a room but that’s generally not the primary entryway for the family, they’ll use the back or side door which is closer to the driveway or garage.
Also. i don't kinda understand why they would remove that entry way. It was so characteristic for the house and made them gush and praise it repeatedly. Only to make it look like every other US house interior. Feels a bit like they only fell in love with the "age label" of the house
same in the netherlands. dirty shoes!
It’s so weird to me that you can pick a house up and move it. In England our houses are all brick with concrete foundations and stuff. I cant wait to see more of this project. So excited for you xx
It’s confusing me too lol what happens to the plumbing and stuff? I thought that was underground
right?? this sounds crazy to me :D
Yes, I thought the same thing
Yes! That’s so crazy. No way you could do that with our UK houses.
Plus most of our houses are attached to other houses so it might be a little *awkward* 😂
Right? And it Always confuses me that American houses are made of wood when they have hurricanes and stuff. You’d naturally assume that something more solid would be safer?
I’m sure there are reason behind why. There’s so much I have to learn 🤣
I’m know it will be beautiful at the end but I’m stuck on the fact that you’re opening up the front foyer. It’s so beautiful the way it is and by far my favorite part of the house 😭
weird too bc i think she said that it was the entry way that made her fall in love with the house then she decided to get rid of it. eh. it's her house and money.
Same!
Macenna!!! Please keep the foyer! Open up the kitchen with the dining area, and the living room with whatever room is next to it, but for the love of god keep the foyerrrrrrr!
It isn’t your house.
Is anyone else getting anxiety on the boatload of work that needs to be done on this house?
@Gzl Lin That's essentially what's trendy now. Buy old, amazing houses with loads of charm and individuality, then ripping that out to replace it with a pintrest board. :/
I think you could do SO MUCH with the foyer! Such a cool place to style! It could look very classy and expensive honestly, I think it adds a lot to the house, but whatever makes you happy ♥️
I can’t believe you’d get rid of the entryway! That whole room had so much character
I love the original entryway too but it makes sense why she’s changing it, the original layout is kinda wack
@@catiii4888 I agree. And it’s her home and her vision. She’s so talented I’m sure it will be amazing
right. I love the entryway as well.
I totally agreed with you it’s so beautiful
My heart breaks with the thought of removing the foyer! But ultimately I know you will make a decision you are happy with ❤️
hi! I love the entrance with the foyer, I think you should keep it this way, but all the other plans you have about the open space are good. I wish you success with your program. im exciting about it to. you are so cute!
I agree with the others commenting on you basically destroying that gorgeous entry hall! By the looks of your plans, you will be turning a beautiful 100-year-old home into a modern, trendy open floor plan with some vintage touches. Granted, it's your house, but it breaks my heart. Have you ever watched Farmhouse Vernacular? Paige and her husband are truly restoring (not renovating) a 100-year-old farmhouse, staying as true to the period as possible, and it is gorgeous! They too have a fabulous large entryway with a staircase and all of the walls were left intact. It's a truly beautiful space. Please check them out before you finalize your plans. You just might change your mind. (Other great restorations are Farmhouse on Boone and Bryarton Farm.) Best wishes and blessings.
I'm sad to see foyer go away ... it is the main part of the house's charm. But I'm happy for you, for your dreams to come true!
Yes. Keep the foyer
I agree. I really don’t like the open concept living room and kitchen
True . That was my favorite part .
@@ericaquint1895 I love open concept, but I would do it in a way to keep foyer ... so open koncept kitchen dining and living room on the left and the bedrooms on the right side of the foyer ... houses where I live all have foyer ... I can't imagine to open a frot door and walk right into a livingroom.
Especially since removing the wall actually doesn't increase the usable floor space of the living room, since you couldn't put any furniture to where the foyer used to be anyways.
I dislike houses where the front door goes straight into the living room, imagine all that mud/snow/dirt. Also the open plan is a bit too open for my tastes but you do you.
The cottages are a good idea for sure and I like the reclaimed wood from the workshops, maybe try and rebuild the smaller one for a external DIY studio/ summer house.
LOOOOVE the dining room ideas!!
She said the main door will be off the kitchen so they will not have that issue.
@@Jessa8891 Is it better to have all the dirt, snow and rain in the kitchen???
@@malinka2125 there is a mud room next to the kitchen. Also I guess there's not a lot of mud and snow in Texas.
Top interior designers are already bouncing back from the whole 'open plan' concept. It's not ideal for sound, heating/cooling (not very eco friendly) nor does it add to a cosy, 'homey' feeling. I'd go with tall and wide French doors too - it would give you both options!
And I’m so glad! I do not like open concept at all. I don't want my kitchen and livingroom in the same space. It's never looked appealing to me. Just more cluttered having three rooms in one open area.
We own an American Foursquare built in 1911. I love that the rooms are broken up.
And I personally LOVE my open floor plan. Albeit we built new a year ago so I didn't go through the process of tearing down any walls of an existing house. I do love her foyer and think it would be a beautiful feature of her home but after living in closed off spaces for years, I can also understand her wanting a bit of an open concept. 💁♀️
P.S. our open plan is an L-shape and you cannot see the kitchen from the livingroom.
I also love an open concept. That’s the beauty of building or renovating your own home, getting to do what you want! Who cares about trends! I love the modern farmhouse style and when I eventually buy a house I know it’ll probably be out of style, but I’m still gonna do it because I can! 💕
Open concept homes look beautiful but i agree 💯 percent.. that their are disadvantages to having an open concept house
Aww I was so excited to watch this be restored but it's going to look so different by the end that it just want be the same. I'm glad you're gonna save a lot of pieces but it just won't be the same.
Before you move the house you should do metal detecting in the yard! You could find a lot of unique treasures before the house going on top of them forever.
Oooo fun!!!
This is such a good idea!
Yes great idea! Back in the day, people buried their garbage in their yards. We uncovered some pretty dishes and a gorgeous pitcher!!
Annddd I would keep the foyer.... it is just beautifull!
KEEP the foyer!!! It's gorgeous! This is SO exciting. I've always wanted to renovate/restore a house but was never able to do that so I'm living my dream through you!
I was thinking the arches don’t go well with the style of the house 🤔
I love the house! Can’t wait for the rest.
Agree. I would pass on the arches.
I didn't care for the arches either
You're so right..arches aren't the style of a farmhouse/cottage!
Yes, arches definitely mismatch
I dont think so...look at Mcgee's house..so farmhouse french and rustic...at the countryside the farmhouse are too much and old fashion..so many stuff so many letters everywhere...in 2021 the arch is back in minimal way and it's so beautiful...
Keep the foyer! Open floor plans are going out in favor of walls with the way we are adapting to Covid-19. The charm of the cottage is what makes it unique. It’s a shame to loose the character to make it look like a modern house?!
A winter garden/sun room is my absolute dream! Seeing you wanting to remove it breaks my heart - but your plans look so gorgeous I can’t be sad for long.♥️
As a landscaping gardener I'm already jealous and envious of all the acreage....so much potential to help with restoring bio diversity and look so esthetically pleasing when done😍 You should definitely invest in a local landscaping designer that can help you with your vison but also help with restoring the local biological diversity. We all need to do what we can in this mass extinction event.....😭
Not the foyer!!! That's the best part!
Doesn’t make sense to lose the foyer imo. That was one of the reasons you bought the house isn’t it?
I agree, but I can also see the appeal of opening the floorplan up a bit. I think having a wide arch on the living room side (matching the kitchen side) to maintain the symmetry and at least a nod to the foyer might be what I would do if this were my project and I wanted to restore and update but still maintain some of the original style. I also might stick with more square/rectangle shapes rather than the rounded arches she's planning.
More money and time than sense.
I agree. I loved the cozy feel. It's going to look too modern. :-(
It’s quite common here in Australia 👍
I agree :(
Omg people are so judgmental: your house, your money, your time. Do what YOU want❤️ at the end of the day you will be the one living in it, stay confident in what you’ve decided and remember how hard you worked on the floor plan. If you want it that way, so be it. None of these other people on here will be putting any money or work towards *your home. I would love to stay in one of the cottages!! 🤩 love the loft style of the first one that y’all plan to build. This video made me subscribe! Can’t wait to see the process!
Well, I got a chuckle when I heard you’re adding more windows on the WEST for “light & evening sunsets.” You have lived in Texas in July & August, I hope. 🥵
She just designed a whole house meanwhile it took me three weeks to choose a desk.😭
This got me! I’ve been looking for the right bedside tables for 3 years 🤣
@@jessicabones Omg I've been looking for my bed side tables too, but for 6 years now and still can't find them 😆🙈
I hear you!! She makes me feel very slow...but I love her
I feel this on a deeper level..same..
Hahahahahaha good one
I thought this would be a restoration project and not a complete re-model! But i'm so excited to see the final result 😁 i'm from the UK and the concept of moving a house completely baffles me 🤣 but excited to see! xx
aww i kind of like how small the front yard is, its nice a cozy you could decorate it lovely then have a giant backyard. doesn't look too busy of a street to keep it where it is
The sinking feeling that started when she said "salvage and move the doors" that bottomed out when she said "blow the walls out of the foyer" :/
Exactly! I thought she wanted to keep the character of the hose...
The door with the broken glass would be adorable as a pantry door, you could have the glass etched that says “Pantry” Your Mom is Adorable 🥰
Absolutely in case she forgets it's the "Pantry". I bet she could find one at Hobby Lobby and not even need to have one made.
I was going to suggest getting a glass etching kit with the cream and making her own design. I've etched with it and it turned out really good.
Ugh! Please don’t label places in the house as if you don’t know where you are. So corny and outdated.
Omg the foyer was so special, I’m sad you are getting rid of it. But best of luck 💕
Yes. Keep the foyer
I know!! I don’t think she should blow out those walls completely maybe just do some cased archways to keep the foyer feeling.
It could be a great entry office or in south seen dining areas
My heart sank when she said "blowing out the walls" and "open concept" not in keeping with the character of the home at all. Keep the foyer but add another archway into the kitchen/dining room.
@@nata3467 ooh yeah I like the idea of putting the dining room there, and then she could put an open concept kitchen above it, and then the door immediate behind the foyer large door could be the living room looking out into the backyard, and then off to the side through some double doors could be a small hallway to the master suite.
it’s so fun rewatching this video now after seeing so much of your ideas come to life.. what worked, what hasnt! you’ve truly done this home justice & i love that we get to follow along ❤️
Love the new plan, but it seems that the olde house will loose quite a lot of its charm.. At this point it seems that it would be easier to take this house as an inspiration and just build a new one..
Maybe it is, but look...the idea is to restore the100 year old Cottage (!) I'm sure that will be still charming house with the modern doors or windows. The restoration of the old components itself is what is amazing about this project.
that was my thought.character and charm verses modern decor.. I can tell that her and Romeo are going to do great things with it. She has a gift... and it seems like their doing most of the work.
instead of arches, why not have openings in the same style as the one in the entry way? it would flow better and add/keep existing character.
Exactly. More in keeping with the age of the house. Who needs spanish arches?
@@jmk1962 me lol
Agree
Thank you! I just wrote a whole comment about how architecturally inappropriate archways are for that house.
Yeah same. Arches don't seem to fit the American Cottage style the house has.
We just moved into a 1940s home. The only thing I wish for every day is some kind of separate foyer/ entry closet where we can store our jackets and shoes. Our entrance comes right into the dining room and living room just like your plan.
If you have no lobby the wind just comes into your living room everytime someone opens the front door.
I also prefer having an actually seperate entry way. If this was my house and I didnt have to worry about money, i would have knocked down the wall between the room to the left and the bathroom. I also would have put the kitchen in there. The doors, that lead Into the living room and the kitchen I would have replaced with large Sets of french doors, to fit the existing "arch". That would give the feeling of a more open space while still keeping the Charme and a sense of seperation.
@@katl6428 When I enter my home I would want to enter into a serene and nice space, not a possibly messy living room with the TV on or a messy kitchen 😅 a foyer is also great for entertaining. Messy living room? Just take your guests ot the kitchen. Messy kitchen? Just close the door and lead your guests to the living room.
I think the plan is to use the back entrance, where the car would be parked.
I’ve designed a coat closet area at the back door as that is the entrance we will use more often.
She’s keeping the low windows and other small design details from the original house, they are characteristics of an old home. She is keeping the “character” of the house. Lots of changes have to be made, especially the layout, to better suit her and her husband’s needs and wants. ANYWAYS I absolutely love it and I can’t wait to see everything happen!!
I saw a really good suggestion of adding an entryway but I love the new floor plan
I really appreciate these type of videos showing the floor plan, I get lost during house tours lol
The home has such character with the foyer and all the original woodwork etc.
I'm excited about this project, but really sad about the plan to get rid of the foyer. If it were me, I'd replicate the doorway with the transom on the walls you want to remove in the foyer instead of arches. Maybe put in wide French doors of some sort so you can have an open plan feel when the doors are open, but still keep the charm of the house.
Exactly! It breaks my heart when people buy 100-year-old homes and turn them into modern houses, following current trends. Don't know if I can follow the updates without getting upset. 😢
Yes! The French doors would suit the house much better.
Yeah it’s a bit unfortunate that charm of older homes with smaller and more intimate rooms is getting replaced by general open concept floor plans.
In one of thesorrygirls’ video of upcoming trends, it’s actually speculated that open floor plans might not be as popular anymore and that given the pandemic and stay at home situations, a lot of people are craving more privacy or intimate spaces.
Coupled with how compartmentalized rooms are is a key feature of older homes... I think making slight renovations/restoration would be a better choice for this home
yes!!
It breaks my heart when people buy old houses and just get rid of the old charm. Which is why they brought them I the first place.
I don't understand when you say you love the foyer and want to keep true to the house and then you go ahead with plans to remove the only thing that was truly remarkable in the property. That foyer and the beautiful wood work is something you don't see anymore and that will no be in any other house. I don't know, I love the plans in general but loosing the foyer will make this house be like a new one. why not just demo the entire house and start from scratch.
You can make the foyer so much you have room to have a bench, Mirrors, and flowers. I realize that you could use that space better, but your rooms all are very generous. So, you can decide what that space should be. Can’t wait to see how you used.
Keep the foyer and definitely a closet space in the foyer. It's a beautiful entryway! Definitely the character of the house.
It would be sad to lose all that space in the barn. I feel like you would need your own a space to do DIYs. take it from me, a mom of three kids. I would definitely want my own space to sscape to and have some me time.
You’re going to remove the entryway vestibule??? Noooooo, that’s what’s so special about old houses😭😭😭
Also keep in mind heating and cooling old houses was so different than it is now. Open concept flooring doesn’t work with heating and cooling old houses 💀
That was my first thought. I’d think Think you may miss a hallway, landing zone.
I’m so sad that vintage style entry room is going! Glad you are keeping that awesome door though! Wish all those beautiful transoms didn’t look into a wall. It would be so beautiful looking into a dining area or the kitchen. Excited to see how it all works out.
AGREED about the transoms looking into something more interesting
Agree, I am thinking the same!
Ditto
Decided to re-visit this video. The progress you’ve made..the vision coming to life…I feel lucky to have witnessed this transformation since the beginning! 🥰
It just clicked as to why you're calling it the Comfort Cottage. LOL. Because it literally IS! I love the plan and I love that you're keeping all of what makes the house so unique, even if you're moving it elsewhere. KEEP THE FOYER!
I know everyone's on fire with this but I want to add my 2c - pleeeease don't open up the entryway. Having a small separation between private and public spaces, a place to store mess like coats, bags, a hall table for mail, etc. It retains the cottage vibes and makes life feel more 'elegant'. Also there are products you can get to mend cracks in glass so you may be able to do that with the hall door panel rather than replacing it. And one more thing - I am sooooooo *jealous* you have no idea 😅
Keep the foyer and reposition the dining room and kitchen to give it a more historical feel
I like the idea of making the foyer smaller and keeping the open floor concept behind it. Still connecting the dining room and kitchen. But honestly whatever you decide you’ll make it look beautiful and love it because this is YOUR plan. Doesn’t matter what anybody else says or thinks. Not our project or investment! You do you girl 💕👏🏾
I love that you are updating the layout and making it more functional but are keeping the doors, windows, and parts of the house that give it character to use it in other places of the house! :)
Ugh I love that hallway!! Sux it is going to be gone :(
All the changes may very well take away the charm of this wonderful old home.
wonderful???? hahahaha
Good thing it’s her house
I agree Patricia.. yes it is a wonderful old home
I love the plan you have done. It gives the little old home a face lift while still keep the original characters like the windows/doors etc. As long as you don't get rid of that beautiful foyer entry 😂. You do what works for both of you at the end of the day. This is your home and it needs to be practical for you. ❤ So incredibly excited for you girl 😃❤
i love you and am excited for you but my heart shattered when you talked about those arches. arches are gorgeous but i thought you loved the foyer and the historic charm? you’re ripping it all out :(
Girl those walls are most likely load bearing. You're probably gonna have to commit to some big beams if you decide to blow those walls out! But I lovvveee the entry room you should keep it
So excited to share our very preliminary plans for the comfort cottage. Although we are RESTORING so much of what’s original to the house we have always planned for the layout to make more sense and make use of the space that exists. You guys know my style and the visuals of the floor plan are just for floor plan purposes. The program I was using only had one door option 😂 and it was very Mediterranean style .. the original door is absolutely staying! I just wanted to show you guys what the floor plan would look like the actual design will be way prettier and like the cottage is now!! 🥰
Keep the foyer the way it is!!!!
I was like wait no one commented and the saw it was 1 second ago!😂
I love your vision! It will be beautiful and I am so glad you’re sharing! 🤗🤗🤗
Please leave the wall between the foyer and the living room so you have a true foyer. Honestly after living in apartments without foyers and now owning our house with one it is SO nice to keep the weather contained to the foyer. Additionally the foyer really does set the entire mood for this house, getting rid of all that original woodwork would be such a disservice to this home that you painstakingly picked for it's charm.
So excited for this journey yay 😀
I do love a good open concept, but a good foyer is something special. From the plans, the immediacy of seeing the kitchen and living room is an apartment styling concept. I would give the illusion of the foyer by opening up the walls with large, squared, symmetrical archways. It would still be open concept but the foyer would still be seemingly there.
NO ONE could be as excited as YOU MaCenna. However I love how excited you are and can't wait to see how this all turns out. As someone who is also creative and enjoys what you do, nothing excites me more so I know how you are feeling!!! You go Girl!!! I will be watching with excitement just to see you go nuts!!!
I wish you were keeping all the walls in place, and working with the floor plan you have now. That entryway is gorgeous, and it's just going to feel like a completely different house. I understand needing to add on for extra bedrooms though. I'm sure it will be beautiful when it's done, and the important thing is that you're happy with it.
I was thinking squared entry ways with transomes would be more appropriate with this style of house rather than arches. To me arches are more spanish style and not cottage/victorian. I'm curious to see how it's all going to come together.
I agree.
I hope she sees this comment. This idea is far better than the open arches she had in the plans and helps keep the original charm of the house. This would look so much better!
I am so happy someone else thinks this!! It's a charming old cottage farmhouse..no arches PLEASE!!
I would also keep some kind of anteroom. I see they are not common in US? I like to have some bench, mirror, umbrella stand, coat rack etc, and not just direct path from front door to living room.
@@victoriahansen4028 i hope you see this comment lol
I dont think so...look at Mcgee's house..so farmhouse french and rustic...at the countryside the farmhouse are too much and old fashion..so many stuff so many letters everywhere...in 2021 the arch is back in minimal way and it's so beautiful...
Now that the house is fully rebuilt I’m able to actually visualize what you meant by this video!! I can picture the rooms I’ve seen drywalled in and now that you’re starting to decorate I can already see what changed and this is so fun! I cannot wait to see it finished and you compare your initial ideas to what ended up becoming real. Now I’m going to binge all of these videos 🥰🥰
So exciting to see all your plans! I was very surprised at the open design layout replacing the beautiful entry way. It seems like the house will be old on the outside but modern on the inside (layout). I just watched a new homeowner paint 150 year old bannisters/crown moulding/wood trim like yours, WHITE. I died alittle inside. LOL. Ahhh, to each their own. This is YOUR dream come true and I am happy all of us get to share it with you! It will be a beautiful home! 💕
This is so fun to see your plans for the house and I hope moving it goes great! That kitchen looks amazing. Maybe after you tear down the work shop make a smaller version your diy studio
I am so, so excited for this! Could I humbly suggest that you switch to a wearable mic for future videos? The sound levels were varying a lot as you moved, so I found myself adjusting volume multiple times. I love this project and can't wait to see what you create! 💜
I agree with Gizem’s comment. and model looks like any other modern building. why bother buying an authentic 1910 house with wood trim to just remake it into 2021 open concept warehouse style building. sorry. up until now I enjoyed her content but seeing perfectly fine building being destroyed is painful and I don’t wanna witness that. my piece of mind.
I agree. I watched on my phone and have hearing sensitivity so I found myself struggling with volume.
@@minastirith997, she’s so talented and she knows what’s she’s doing. It’s her money, her vision! I’m
Grateful she is sharing it with us. It’s hard to please everyone, isn’t it? I’m
So glad she isn’t trying
So sorry about that I actually invested in one and tried to use it but was so nervous I would have no sound at all that I resort back to my tried and true. I tried to balance the audio in editing the best I could 😕
@@minastirith997 also she stated in another comment that the virtual wall through is just for the layout, not for the design
Oh no no no, don't do the foyer dirty like that!!! 😱The foyer is charming and the beadboard and original wood detail around the beautiful french double doors is one of a kind!!! This is why you bought the house. Imagine a unique, antique table in the center of the foyer with fresh-cut garden flowers. The "dining room" will be your office or spare bedroom and walk forward to the grand entrance of the house. Open concepts are already fading from fads. I just can't watch you tear this foyer out!!!! 😭
Please document everything we want alllll the details!! I want hour long videos 😍😍😍 the most exciting thing on youtube right now I swear! You guys rock
Not sure why you would go to all that expense and not have a third bedroom, in other words guest room, office and main bedroom. An extra bedroom would also add to the resale value .
I was thinking the same
Glad someone else thought that too. 3bed/two bathrooms are pretty standard and would price out higher in value for mortgages, refinancing or Equity loans.
Exactly. Why have a whole property to play with and still merge craft room and guest bedroom together?
I had the same thought
I actually want a 2 bedroom house so I understand where she’s coming from. Also she comes from money and obviously does well on her own so maybe resale value isn’t the top of her list she just wants what she wants
I can’t believe she’s actually going to move her house like she’s in animal crossing lollll
Lol, that’s funny!
Omg I love this comment
Can not WAIT to book a stay at the comfort cottages! This new series is going to be amazing! We just built our dream home and I would have loved to have had this through our build!
Hey, long time subscriber, first time commenter. It's so sweet that you are taking others' opinions into account regarding the foyer etc. We're here for you MaCenna.
We're here to see your style and watch you create your space. This is going to be your baby, not the commenters. Make what you love and what you want to live in.
This house looks like it has been unloved for so long, and it's so great that you are going to be bringing it into the 21st century! I'm sure whoever built this house will be so happy you will be putting so much love into it!
If people want to watch a traditional restoration, there are plenty of other YTs and Instas that do just that.
Do what inspires you!
I'm kinda sad your blowing the foyer walls out....that is such a moment right there. Basically going to be dealing with the same issue you have at your apartment.
I agree ,you loose the charm of the house
She said the entry was why she fell in love with the house
Ahhh I agree, It was painful too see the plans and model of the open concept. The foyer was SO special 🥺🥺🥺 I was so excited to see It updated and then she said she is blowing the walls out I was like oh nooo
@@debbyetheridge6368 exactly!!!! Petition to keep it! Open floor plans are dying!
@@simmersive I cringed the minute I saw them too. I'm good with everything else but dang! She lost all the character of that house losing that! I could see a beautiful gate leg table with fresh flowers and trinkets on it right in the middle and a beautiful chandelier or pendent hanging above it!
Oh wow I'm surprised you're tearing down the workshop
Her energy and positivity is ridiculously adorable and it just sets me up for the rest of my day.
This is your house and your vision. Do what feels right to you! It's going to be amazing either way! That's my vote!
I'm sure you've totally thought through everything, but I wonder, will moving the house mean sewer changes, resetting outside electric sources, zoning permits if you're renting cottages? I moved a house 10 years ago. It was more involved than moving it back. I had to pay for moving powerlines, and get a bunch of permits. Total to move my house was around $23,000. It was worth it because I knew it would add a lot of value to my purchase. You know what they say, location, location, location. Good luck and a happy learning journey. Although, you have some family experts and probably access to inside material and construction deals.
All I can think about everything she’s saying is how much money this is going to cost!!! I’m freaking out and it’s not even my project. Lol
@@mckennasloan5094 haha same! Personally you would be better off buying property and just building a house. Seems like a lot of work to me, but she wants to restore it. Lol I wish her luck!
This is my first time on your channel and it’s so refreshing, seeing someone genuinely excited about life instead of the “playing it cool” attitude.
Getting the house you love is really exciting and when life gives you a natural high you should enjoy it for all it’s worth.
You go girl!
Can’t wait for more.
"You can move a house"
*laughs in european*
Holy moly!! This is a much bigger project than I was expecting! Good luck! I am restoring a 1940’s summer cottage right now! It has been very challenging but will be so worth it in the end!
As you were describing the cottage idea, all I thought was damn how awesome would a Romeo bed and breakfast be with him cooking up amazing food and your decorating!!
Woo-hoo here we go. Remember this is your house, your dream home therefore your home and that is what matters. Enjoy
Girl I’m coming to stay in that cottage!!! I have been a fan for so long!!!❤️❤️😂😂😂
wow i didn't expect to see so many angry comments. It's really not a big deal that she changed her mind about the foyer, it's her house and she designed the floor plan how she wants and is still restoring it and salvaging as much as she can from it. Besides plans can still change as construction starts...either way with macenna's skills the end result is going to be amazing. I'm excited to watch the process!
money money money 🎵
So cool you have resources to show us our dream comes true
Your smile is one of the most cheery, and warm of them all. Like sunshine! 🌞
I like the idea of the open concept, brings up to more modern standards, while keeping the traditional charm of the house.
The big archway doorways you drew in your floor plan 😍😍 so excited to see how it goes. I think it’ll be so nice to knock the foyer walls down
