@@sarahmurphy8030 Well now, Sarah Murphy, you've undermined my intended reply to Peter John. The fact is this:
I read that the original line was 'this is not my suitcase' but it was deemed injudicious because of the fear - not unreasonably, I would say -- that it would be seen as racial profiling. Having read that, I assumed that the change had no reference at all, which made it surreal and therefore all the funnier (you might be aware that a section of the British public loves surreal humour.) But now you tell me that it was lifted from an Eddie Murphy film. Oh dear, now I'll have to revise my opinion.
But no matter. I have no reason to doubt you and truth is truth when all's said and done, so thanks for educating me.

The fact that the extra agreed to be in the show and laughed on set shows how they enjoyed this harmless comedy.
People need to remember this is nothing about laughing at people but actually laughing at ourselves when we hear a person from another culture speak it just sounds like sounds and not words. And myself being partly Indian, this is just a classic

I was pulled into a meeting (Germany, very well-known company) to interpret, subject being the construction of a petroleum factory in India. Participants : German, Polish and Indian. The morning was horrendous (had no idea of the terminology). We broke for lunch and went off to a very liquid lunch (beer and Schnaps and Cognac). As far as I was concerned, I did well in the afternoon, pissed out of my mind (as were the Polish and Germans). Don't think anyone noticed and it was easy to get this huge contract signed....

Catherine Tate is a brilliant Comedian, she also played the third companion to Davis Tennet's Doctor WHO, some serious acting in that.
