  • I've had a few questions about maintenance on our Intex pool so this video shows how we built a trapdoor to access the pool along with the pool heater and pump. A trapdoor from the deck takes you below deck with steps leading down. We've since installed some Govee outdoor LED lights around the pool which looks awesome at night.

    You have the heat pump underground? Wouldn't that draw heat out of the pool and recirculate the cold air? The gap between the hatch and dekking with the hints looks quite big. You could get your foot stuck or hurt yourself walking barefoot.
    Its looks really nice though and its a good idea

    Much cheaper at this point than a real in ground pool? Wood is high. This wood is REAL HIGH DOLLAR

    Do you have to deal with water build up between the retaining wall and the pool and its metal legs? I live in FL and would worry about tha.

      No, not had an issue with that. It sits on a base of sand so tends to drain well

    how do you keep water from collecting down there?

    • @robonions
      @robonions  Před rokem +2

      We are pretty well drained around here so we've not really had an issue in the 4 years it's been in. We had a couple of inches of water in it one winter but we remove the pump in the winter and the heat pump is elevated and wrapped up in the winter.

    What type of heater do you have? We're thinking about getting one as well.

    where do you get the roll cover snd do you think you could mount it with out the deck around it

    • @robonions
      @robonions  Před rokem

      It was from www.discountleisureproducts.co.uk/ I think. They supplied a lot of the gear as they're local to us. I'm pretty sure it was designed for the pool but we modded it to fit on the deck.

    How about winter? Is pool and pipes without water?

    • @robonions
      @robonions  Před rokem

      Yeah we just isolate the pipes and disconnect the pump and heater. We leave the water in the pool

    Does rain water get in and flood the basement

    • @robonions
      @robonions  Před rokem

      The rain gets in of course but we're well drained so it doesn't generally flood.

    How much does it cost to run?

    • @mike-ology22
      @mike-ology22 Před 2 lety

      It depends.
      We have a 12ft pool and a 9000L sand filter pump with glass media inside. We have put 20kg of pool salt in it and we have a intex salt water generator.
      For the size of the pool and the pump we use, we run it for 2 hours each night, the same as the salt water generator.
      Running the pump is 400watts. Running it for 2 and a half hours is 1kilo watt hour. Find out how much you pay per kwh from your energy provider. Then you know how much it costs.
      The pump and filter cost £160. Intex salt water generator cost £75. Salt cost £20.
      Now, the pool runs itself with hardly any maintenance.
