- The Borg-Warner T18 transmission is famous for its strength and durability in the truck and off-road world and was built for quite a few Ford trucks, IH vehicles, and Jeeps. We have been having issues with it popping out of 4th gear. This video is part 1 of a 2 part series rebuilding the T18 Borg Warner transmission for the CJ7. The rebuild kit came from Novak Adapters. Good snap ring pliers are a must.

Nice video I could of used this three years ago when I did mine. It came out fine but I had to wing it for
much of the build. Now it sits behind my 401 in my CJ5.
401 in a CJ5 must be one heck of a ride!! Does it do wheel stands? Sounds awesome I'd love to see that Jeep. thanks for watching
Cool video brotha!!
Thanks!!
The bearing puller is supposed to go behind the bearing so as not to damage the bearing for reuse. Probably won't matter when you are replacing the bearing but I have never seen anyone use a puller like that.
yes I'm thinking just replace everything now while the transmission is out rather than have to possibly do it later.
Nice I am rebuilding a Ford t18 for my CJ2a project. I had the same issue with the bearing separator/puller
Worked great once I had the right bolts. Good luck with yours. Keep me posted how it goes. Thanks!
Best transsion for jeeps.
Yes it is
I love your vids. I'm wanting to throw a t18 in my cj but I have some questions regarding where to pick one up.. looking for one with the granny first gear. Would you or anyone else be willing to help me out with a little coaching?
Feel free to shoot me an email. I can't promise I have all the answers but will happy to share with you what I know. Thanks for watching!!
Helped me on my first transmission rebuild on T19 Borg Warner with 66 tooth reverse. Thanks
That's awesome! Congrats and thanks for watching
Not sure what is wrong with this transmission??
How much fluid and what weight did you use?
80-90w gear oil, I filled it until it came out the inspection hole
What bellhousing you have
It is out of a 79 manual Chevy truck. I picked it up at a local junk yard.
What t18 is that? Is it a ford or jeep style?
This is the ford style.
@@41GarageandGrill With the Jeep style input or is it a short ford style input? If it is the short style input what bell housing did you use to mate it to the t18?
@@bryco32 I can't remember for sure, so I don't to give you the wrong info, if it was the longer or shorter input. The bell housing is off a manual Chevy transmission I picked up at a junk yard. I bought an adapter kit from Novak to mate the transmission to the bell housing.
@@41GarageandGrill no problem. I now see the advance adapters plate and the longer input you have in the other video . That denotes it a Jeep t18 and not a Ford.
Good video, but I wish you would have shown every step, detail by detail.
I agree with you. When I watch it now I think i should have added more. At the time I was worried it was too much.
@@41GarageandGrill After watching several, yours is the best t18 rebuild video I've seen. Thanks for doing it.
