Forever ashamed, only spent a year or so in Rhodesia as a schoolboy boarder while the family were in Kitwe, Zambia, but it made a big impression on me. The kids I met there had no doubt about where their home was, it was Rhodesia. We just were doing time in Zambia until it was time to head back for the UK.

Once again your story has triggered a memory, About my only concern when "In the Bush" was if I were to be wounded and left on my own and then get captured by the terrs, I was in Greys Scouts and my unit turned a blind eye to us carrying our own sidearms( at least no one ever challenged me about it ) Mine was a small 5 shot 38 special Astra, it was very useful for searching huts and confined spaces and also the crowded buses that ran in the rural areas but the main reason was for me to avoid falling into enemy hands. I found myself at a base in the bush and standing in line at the mess tent for food, a lieutenant standing in front of me turned around and asked what I had in the canvas pistol holster, I showed him the small 2-inch barreled pistol whereupon his lip curled into a snarl and he made a derogatory remark about a Pop Gun and turned his back on me, I would have loved to have shot him in the @rse and then asked him if it hurt.
Tell the lieutenant how useful it is and invite him to patrol with you to see how you use your pop gun. You were the soldier, he wasn't. Thank you for your service and Merry Christmas to you.

a fascinating subject, or a passionate teacher can make for great lessons. when you have both, magic happens.
merry christmas!
Thank you so much for sharing another wonderful tale! This was a surprise Christmas gift! The idea of videos dealing with Rhodesian (and S. African) history is a very good one. If you think any topic might make an interesting video, believe me, it will. All of your tales are fascinating, especially to outsiders like me who never heard any details about the Rhodesian Bush War. Thanks again and Merry Christmas and a happy New Year to you and your family! 🎄
What a wonderful narrator
Yes please share the history. As a country that no longer exists i think its good if it can be written down or recorded for future generations
A tad late but a Merry Christmas to you too and thank you for shearing your stories! Best wishes from the UK!
Thank you sir, best wishes for you and your family 🎅🤶😊👍🏽
Merry Christmas to you and your family
You are a naturally gifted story teller, I hope to hear more of your bush stories in the new year x
Many thanks yet again 5RR! Your talks always give an increasingly cynical middle age so-and-so like myself pause for thought. Please carry on and help keep up morale for us all. If you can have such a positive approach after all you've been through, then it puts my grumbles into perspective. Happy Xmas-yes, saved this one for the Big Day.
You are so kind to make this video for us. May you be blessed
Merry Christmas, Oom. You're a very good story teller. Nice video :)

Yes sir, I wish you the best. This channel is important to me. I love to hear about your experiences in the bush. It gets me ready for what I'm probably going to have to deal with in the US. If you have any advice, I'd love to hear it.
