It's 20 degrees out here this morning. I could stand some Keys weather and bend a rod myself, lol...

Will be in the keys next month ! Looking forward to it, to say the least. Best fishing channel on the planet. Thanks Steve. Would love to get a similar kayak and tag along, and learn from the master. Told someone about your channel last week. Said you were the Babe Ruth of fishermen. (Or easily Joe Dimaggio - like in Hemingway's book.) 👍

Hey Steve. You have never kept a Snook. Do you need a special license to be able to? I think your audience would appreciate a snook catch and cook. You have great recipes.

There’s a season on them they are out of season now and the is a slot size limit

Monroe County Snook season is closed December 1st till the end of February. May 1st till the end of August. The slot is 28 to 32 inches with the tail pinched. Total length. The season is closed in winter because the Snook is vulnerable to water temperature. Once the water temperature falls to 68 degrees they are almost catatonic. In a coma. They do not survive for long if the temperature drops even lower and stays there for days or even hours.
The summer is closed because it's breeding season.
The Snook that make it to deeper water. Say 20 feet or more have a better chance of survival in the winter. There is this phenomenon called flip. The deeper cool water "flips" to the surface. The warmer surface water takes it's place.
The deep ocean inlets on the East coast will harbor schools of Snook in the winter. They move to the reefs and on the tide that suits them come into the inlet to feed.
I've caught some of my biggest Snook (40 plus inches)on the coldest days.
Steve catches pups down there. I have yet to see him land a legal Snook. It's the areas he fishes.
