- In this video I dive deep into my Hurricane Ian Damaged 1968 Hatteras 50 Motor Yacht. From the day that I bought it to 2 weeks of hard work, to putting her in the water and taking her on her first test ride! I know its a long video, but if you are interested in seeing what it took to get this boat ready for the water, you will enjoy the video! As always, thank you for watching. Subscribe for more. Thank you for all of the positive comments on the last video. I know I did not reply to them, but I read them all and I appreciate all of you!

Kid, you exemplify how young men should conduct themselves. That fearless "I will figure it out and overcome it" mentality is lacking these days. I am an aircraft mechanic with 30 years experience and I wish to see more young men like yourself entering into my craft but is just not the case! You have a very bright and satisfying future on your horizon!
Thank you very much. Just so happens that I have my A&P.
@@InTooDeepBro That says a lot about your comfortability dealing with everything on that Yacht from composite to electrical work!
😂1😂🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉😂😂
You are the most exceptional hard working young man I have ever come across. I'm sure your parents are beyond proud of you. You are SO inspiring. Lots of love and blessings from Cape Town. ❤🇿🇦
totally agree what a work ethic !
This guy is a demon. Greetings to you champ from Joburg 🇿🇦
You should get out more. The world is full of kids like this.
No it's really not. There are some certainly but to say it is full of them is a gross exaggeration.
That’s for sure great kid ,if we had more young men like him in our society we’d be in great shape
At 75 it is hard even to get my mind around all of the hard work that you put into this boat. You are an inspiration for anyone and are to be commended for all of your stict-to-ative Ness as my Grandmother used to say. I have liked & subscribed.
“One man’s trash is another man’s treasure” 👍🏻 boat looks awesome dude
You, my friend, are a gifted individual. You should start your own mobile marine repair business. Your beginners fiberglass work was off the hook good. The world is yours for the taking. Marine repair is a very lucrative business. You will stay covered up with work as long as your work ethics remain 5 star. Downside, you never have enough time to spend any of that money. You could always focus on just one facet of marine repair: whatever you enjoying doing the most. Great video. Excellent work. Looking forward to the next video! Good luck young man.
hard working kid living the dream, he deserves every blessing that comes his way
Seeing Bella floating proud in the opening scene brought a smile to my face! Congrats Gus, you deserve this. Keep up the amazing work. BTW I love watching technical type repair/maintenance videos. And I'm sure I'm not the only one. So please feel free to take us along whenever you are working on a project. You are quite the handyman.
“Things are getting poopy.” Lol! Awesome video - fun to see young people getting their hands dirty, taking on big jobs like this.
Pleasure watching a young man work so hard to accomplish an end, not that there is ever an end to owning a boat. Your parents must be very proud of you. Safe sailing captain. ,🇺🇸
Yo Gus, Nice Job on the Motor Yacht, I know Boats, My dad and I sailed for many years out of College Point Queens, we had a 40 Mathews Motor yacht and a 32 ft Revel Craft Fly bridge cruiser. My dad at one point own like 5 boats, he had a 28 ft Owens Cruiser, a 30 Luhrs Express Cruiser and trust me man, I worked my ass off with him on these Older boats. But we had the time of our lives on them, every night during the summer we would head out and just take a cruise up to Oyster bay or a cruise down the east river to see lower Manhattan. I love boating and I love watching you as you work and learn with these older boats, It brings back a lot of great memories I shared with my dad. Enjoy yourself brother, Live Life like its your last day. Keep up the videos , cant wait to see the maiden Voyage bro. God Bless >
A beautiful boat young man, a real classic. you’re certainly not afraid to take on large complicated projects 👍 reminds me of myself when I was your age, nothing was too hard. Keep it up 👍
I really want to see her leaving haulover one day ❤
Congratulations! Great purchase on an amazing yacht!
Great job with the video Gus. Can’t wait to see it underway.
Enjoy your way of documenting and presenting the repairs. To many channels spend tons of time talking about the individual products they use and why they chose them. You "get er done" and move on to the next task .... greatly appreciated my friend! Watching you splash I can only imagine when she was sparkly and all new hitting the water for the first time. 😊
Gus you're an a legend, keep living the dream!
Dude! You really got me hooked on your vids, but I can't get over the fact of what you actually do. At your age, you are so knowledgeable. How do you do it. Where did you get all your experience?
Blown away. Keep it up.
How impressive is this kid. Amazing
I am on my second Hatteras. The construction quality and high quality materials used were unsurpassed, at the time, in a production yacht. Always a pleasure to rehabilitate these lovely ladies.
Unbelievable find, and job done getting launched so quickly. What a beaut.
So glad you got the boat done in time for our miami trip!
Good job Gus! You're a good kid!
My favorite channel on CZcams. Thanks, Gus. Keep em coming
Despite your hard work, you still make it look easy. Now I see why the videos have been lacking and understand completely. Thanks for sharing!
Yo Gus, Good to see you having another on the water adventure!
Yesterday we were saying it's been a long time since we've heard from Gus! Glad you are back!
You have an opportunity with this project and audience that has come for it to really blow up this channel. Slow down, record, rebuild, share the process of rebuilding/upgrading this boat to a modern masterpiece of this boat. Could be a major life changing experience.
Worth the wait…. Love the Hatteras…wish I was there. Live my dream bud 👍😊😊
I have years of old hatteras experience, learn to use the wheel when maneuvering, use the rudder to push the stern by directing the the water flow from the engine in forward gear. good luck your just beginning your adventure, My first Hat was a 1975 ,64 MY. Only 13 of them were made, was a rear engine room with v drives. Still think of that boat often!
Congrats ! You should be quite proud of yourself
I too was just as excited watching go in the water…way cool 👍👍
I am so impressed by your knowledge and hard work ethics. I know lots of young guys like you and they know nothing and play video games all day. Good for you! I hope you go far in life.
Been watching you since you plowed the coast line in the Albin, you tha man Gus. An amazing journey you've been on! Congrats on the Hatt!
Glad you got her down south, and also got to meet up with Boat Vibes! She’s a awesome platform! 😎🤙🏼
Gus, I am amazed at the knowledge you have gained about engines, electrical, and the inner workings of a boat such as this at such a young age (24 ?). I would be very interested to know your background as to where you got this knowledge, ie. vocational school, college, OJT... etc. In any case, you seem to be exceptional and as I have watched your videos from the beginning, I will continue to do so since you continue to entertain and amaze me.
Gus, you are a fine example of the old maxim: you get out of life what you put into it. Great work, mate!
The Best and what a work list you Accomplished. GREAT TO SEE YOU BACK
I take my hat off to you. I've been there doing the same thing with a 65' Owen Contessa many years ago. I'm out here west coast in the California delta. I'm 81yrs and still enjoying working on boats. Now a 73' Tollycraft Sedan. You get my vote. Enjoy and I'll keep watching.
Dad jamming to AC/DC and helping! so cool
man I wish I had a dad
You are the MAN and here I am stuck in New Hampshire a week after we got 32 inches of white concrete from the sky.. of course our boat is still in deep freeze mode for another 2 months .. good to see you getting this beautiful Hatteras back in shape , you will know here stem to stern when you done. for sure no need to apologize for not getting it all on cam, would of took you three times as long to get it done if you're trying to film it all.
Congratulations to that beautiful Hatteras.
You did an awesome job so far fixing her up. Respect 👍
Congratulations I've been waiting and waiting so happy to see you're on your boat ¡😊😊
I love the sound of those engines! Can't wait to see more, I'm wanting a motor yacht too! I see lots of sailing channels, not many of the Motor Yachts.
Gus, that was impressive. You got that boat back in the water in record time. Your fiberglass repair looks top notch. Have fun with your new boat. Looking forward to future videos.
I worked at Hatteras Yachts for a couple years. So happy to see you revive the 68. Well built for sure
Congratulations on your new boat!
Gus…you are incredibly talented, driven and way more knowledgeable then people 2-3 times your age. Very impressive. Good luck with your ongoing journeys
Looking forward to more updates, clips 😀
I had a 50' 1941 Swordfishing yacht I restored. It also had a 32V system. I used 12V batteries wired in series to give 36V. It worked great and I could easily pull 12V off where needed.
Great to hear that, thanks... that's exactly the plan👍
I give you a lot of credit. You get in there and get it done even if you have not ever done it before. I like you went from small to big. 27 to 43 foot. I learned one thing from that. The Bigger the Boat the Bigger the Problems. Best of luck with your New one. Fair Winds and Calm Sea's.
I grew up in New Bern North Carolina watching these boats go down the Neuse River from the yard on their shake downs. I have friends who built these beautiful craft as a career. It used to be an occasion in our small town when celebrities came in to pick up their new boats.
Way to go Gus. Awesome boat ya picked up there.
She’s looking good. Keep the videos coming.
This channel is going to explode, mark my words..........
Rick Evans
Good luck with Bella / rose , That's one hell of a boat !!
I watched two of your videos last night, and was amazed at your skill, set, and how you persevered, and never let one problem change your vision. I applaud you, my friend, and I will continue to learn from your escapades, and your way of entertaining while showing your misery is notable.
Good job! Nice work! Beautiful Ship! Congratulations Gus!
Gus I can watch you every day on your adventures. It's so inspiring watching you conquer any obstacle thrown your way. Keep up the hard work, it's definitely paying off. Safe travels.
Led strip lights around the cieling of the engine room works great! Good throughout the boat too! Your one resourceful young man! Congrats on your new boat!
43:00 the complexity of a simple toilet back 50-60 years ago makes one appreciate why the maintenance on these boats is pretty much never ending! I mean its just a shitter ..... ? LOL 😂
awsome vid Gus hopefully we will get to see more of the transformation of the refit. what a score and i know she is going to be a dimaond
Congrats Gus, so Happy you are Living the Dream, Your Dream!!! Hattares is a fantastic yacht new or old they are elegant either way.
Really smart about the LED conversion and power conservation.
I would love to do something like this. Great job, and thanks for feeding my fantasy!
Congrats on launching your new dream boat! Looking like a lot of progress has been accomplished! Keep rolling! 👍👍
Wow! So AWESOME to see someone your age put in that “sweat equity”. Kudos to you! And to get to show off to your friends, I mean who doesn’t want to party on an ultra cool, near vintage yacht…what a blast! I’ll be subscribing. Can’t wait to see your next video!
Wow Gus!
That is so cool!
I love Hatteras boats!
That 's a keeper!
Best of luck going forward mate!
That boat has got a gorgeous deep V hull ... you need to add a bow Thruster though... Best of luck you got lucky with this one
Holy Crap! You sir are a impressive young man! Well done!
Crazy unbelievable. You are like Superman. You should be proud. I know I am proud of what you did. And, I am sure many of your followers are proud of you as well. Great job. Now, go enjoy the boat before you sell it and buy another one.
Amazing transformation of the Hatteras 50 Motor Yacht! It's incredible to see the dedication and hard work that went into restoring this beautiful vessel. Your passion for boating truly shines through in this video, and it's inspiring to watch you bring this hurricane-damaged boat back to life. Thanks for sharing your journey with us, and I'm looking forward to more of your adventures on the water! 🚤🌊👏
Is ship? I feel it deserves the tag…
Hatteras is my DREAM.
I can’t wait to watch this at work!
Good work man. Congratulations on your new boat.👏🏻
I like the format- a date in the corner would be cool to see it day by day.
I love how a hallway goes between the engines! Never seen that done before... When I get my project yacht to remodel some day I'm gonna do that :-D
Congratulations to an ambitious, focused and grounded young man. Just came to your channel& glad i did. You are doing a great job am be oroud of your accomplishments on the project.I will be following you Be safe and happy in your quest.

Very awesome boat Gus!! Congrats man!
Bravo! Damn, you are a legend. You are proof that hard work and perseverance (a little luck too) will win in the end. Can't wait to see how it goes with the new Hatteras. Cheers
Gus, We've been watching your channel since the beginning. Keep up the great content. It's so awesome that you are going for the dream at a young age. We bought our live aboard at 62!
12-32dc 110ac. Mish mash for sure!
If I was in your shoes
Convert all lights to 12vdc.
Install buss bar for 12vdc and route to existing "breaker box" to feed wiring for lights
32vdc buss can use 36v if its not a continuous pump operation.
Would recommend using large contactor close to battery to provide shut off . Can use contactor close to pumps with thermal shut down for added safety.
Would recommend a solar array and seperated battery pack to provide power to charge engine battery - charge 36vdc battery - inverter can provide 110ac for boat,.
Connect gerator to solar inverter to run ac and recharge all battery busses.
36 volt battery charging from 110ac
Solar inverter.
Get the schematics and diagrams for the build , OEM should have , and that boat does not look to be hacked up.
Awesome grind! Beautiful boat 🎉
You are a lot like me when I was a young man. You can get stuff done in a day, that would take others, weeks. You're talent and determination are amazing!
It is very rare when someone like Gus comes along. He seems to have unlimited talent and abilities. Is there anything he can't do? I'm very impressed and sure that his parents are proud of him. I can see him as an engineer or captain on a super yacht one day.
His own superyacht!
You are such a talented young man, a credit to yourself, your family and your friends, keep your dreams alive Gus, you're OK, all the best from Tasmania.😃
Dude! I don't comment a-lot you-tube. But you deserve a comment, Awesome Job and great Story! love it!
Gus! your new boat is BAD ASS! Sounds and looks like you got super lucky finding and buying that beast. Oh and by the looks of it you are one hell of a luxurey boat meachanic! Awsome work. Hope everything gets completed and looking pristene! I can not emangine trying to manauver something that big without a bow thruster. You got a real master pieace there!
Great Boat...So lucky for You the Detroits were replaced..
Love what you are doing! Keep up the good work! You are a Great American!
I seen your Last video and did not expect to see a new one so soon, but I’m happy you did Great content!!!!
your determination and hard work is phenomenal. that almost seems impossible what you accomplished in such a short time. you proved me wrong cause I thought you were just partying with the girls the past month.
At 20:00 into the video, your boat looks like my 1967 GB 36 has looked since last July when we bought her. Many things are in pieces. Every horizontal surface is covered with parts, materials, and tools. We are finally in the reassembly stage. Been what seems to be a long time. Since we can only work on her a couple of days a week.
Before we bought her, she sat unused in her slip for nearly 6 years.
Just started watching keep making videos they are so cool and fun to watch!!!! Plz don't stop
Hard work pays off!!! You have lots of practical experience to tackle such a project and succeed. Looking forward to seeing you cruise the 50 footer.
You did SO much work! That was an awesome video. Congratulations on your Hatteras. She is beautiful! My husband and I are so impressed with your knowledge and how hard you work. We look forward to your adventures!
Man your good karma and dedication is workin !...Excelsior !!...its great to be on this journey with you...your Dad must be super proud * your buddy Joel Q
Gus, I enjoy watching you live your Dream. Do it before you're 70 like me. Enjoy Life and have MooreFun. Thom Moore
Really great! I got a laugh out of your new friends joke at the Florida boatyard, "Maybe Elon's boat's for sale" lol
He probably hocked it to buy Twitter.
The progress you have made is absolutely awesome. Looking forward to seeing you bring her back to Bristol condition!
