  • Was the decision to upgrade our campervan gas setup from Campingaz to a refillable GasIt system a good one? It's not a cheap upgrade, but has it been worthwhile?

    I must say your presentation and filming really is the best and I can honestly say no channel comes close . On to gas, maybe worth mentioning the refillable bottle is cheaper but bit of a pain as it needs its own cupboard. Great addition and will pay for itself in no time. Love the upgrades look forward to seeing the next one .

    I went for underslung in my T5 when I converted it. Was the most expensive bit of the build but well worth it. I also have a propex heater and can crank that up as often as I like! So cheap to fill up, no worries about LPG leaking in the van, no gas locker, less holes in the van and lots more space!

    Beautifully filmed as always. Initially I thought it was a moody Norwegian drama because it was shot so well.
    Probably a stupid question but does the LPG smell any different and does it create as much water vapour as Camping gas?
    Also is the tank underneath double skinned like a fuel tank, or does the rubber coating act as a second skin?
    A no nonsense honest video as ever - thank you 😃

    • @FloraTheNoviceExplorers
      @FloraTheNoviceExplorers  Před 2 lety +1

      Haha, cheers Guy! Did feel like we'd been transported considering we filmed this early September :P Can't say we've noticed any big differences, yet. As for the tank, I'd assume it was double-skinned, or similar. The yare built to be external, but I can't say I've read the spec sheet myself. The rubber paint is just to prevent the odd stone chipping and light damage, from what I understand... Hope you're doing well :D

  • @dismaldog

      Thanks :) I think we were a bit paranoid about security. I think we just assumed a fixed window would be a bit more secure. But I don't know what we based that idea on, we're much more chilled now regarding security. Can't say we felt like it was a mistake going with a fixed window though. Cheers

    We use a wallas XC Duo - Combined Diesel Hob and Heater so no gas on board and no need for safety checks, it runs from the vans diesel tank, for me having used most systems in a van I would now alway go with a diesel appliance. The only problem with the diesel set up is the cost.

    • @FloraTheNoviceExplorers
      @FloraTheNoviceExplorers  Před 2 lety

      That’s interesting - we’ve never seen a diesel job in action! Keeps things simple when it is all fed from one tank - in the U.K. last month there was a diesel shortage (mainly through panic buying) that left the pumps empty that would worry me slightly!

      Yeah, it's tricky to know! We've finally got a refillable LPG system, a full tank would last us about 3 months full-time travel. Our old bottles were lasting about 3 weeks. If you can get a refillable system then I'd go for that personally, but depends on how much you use the gas and what your budget is!

      Refilling the LPG is pretty easy, you just need to buy a special adapter set as different countries require different connections. But a lot of garages will have an LPG hose. I think there are a couple of online maps that will highlight the areas where it's available. Definitely look into it if you're going for a BIG trip :)
