    There is so much room for public transit to increase and explode in SW Ontario... being one of the densest areas in Canada, it makes sense to expand our existing schedules and keep pushing people into it because it literally benefits everyone to use public transit.. for those who insist on driving, it means fewer cars on the road and those who take public transit it means you can have a few drinks at your destination w/o worrying about having to drive back! It's kind of win-win.

    • @LivinginCanada
      @LivinginCanada  Před rokem +2

      That's true! I've been using public transportation (and the occassional uber) for these almost 5 years I've been in Canada and it's doable! But I totally agree that the systems could do better with their network, schedules, and also punctuality. That would keep me using public transport in the long run!

    The reasons for short platforms and lack of current weekend service is due to upgrades being made at stations so the service can be extended into weekends and up to every 15 minutes

    Thanks, I have not seen your videos before. I was born and grew up in Canada, but I left 30 years ago. These days I live in France. This summer, I will be going to Canada for a visit, so learning about public transit in Ontario is helpful. A lot is different, and improved, since I last thought about this topic.

    I have only used the GO Train a few times. It would be beneficial to people like me if you made some videos of Union GO Station in Toronto, the underground pathway from Union Subway Station to the GO Station, the GO Bus Terminal, and UP Express Station. I had a bit of trouble with the GO stations. This was an excellent and informative video.

    Really nice detailed video, thank you. For all my life I rarely use GO trains (everything by car). The video is really clear, i think it will help many people who have no clue in this or simply tourists. But I think the name of our train to Pearson is not "U-P Express" but literally UP (same as up/down).

      I used to use the GO Train when I had to travel from Kitchener to Toronto for work meetings during the week because driving there results in being stuck in traffic. I only ever took the Kitchener to Toronto train once during a snow storm. Otherwise I would drive to the Aldershot station near Hamilton to ride the Lakeshore West line into Union. There is plans to do all day trips from Kitchener to Toronto, but for now there are limited times or connections via bus. There is also plans for a larger station outside the City with lots of parking. The Kitchener station has very limited parking and is a not so great station.

    When I think of the 0:40 mark of the above video, I think of a mention of not-so-frequent service on the Kitchener GO train line but also of a claim made in November 2021, by the London, Ontario-born Amsterdam-based Not Just Bikes CZcams man, of the European Netherlands’ having long had “viable alternatives to driving” (via his video “The best country in the world for drivers”). There’s no doubt Metrolinx has work to do to up the frequency of service on so many of its routes.

  • @wsytch4879
    @wsytch4879 Před rokem +3

    Starting Apr 8, there will be weekend service on the Kitchener Line every hour between Mount Pleasant and Union. Bus 30 will connect KW to Bramalea. Time is basically the same as non-rush hour trains.
    And 25 -> Square One -> Union is still there, but bus 21P from Square One to Union got changed to 21C to Port Credit + LW train, and 25L will replace 25 during most of the day. 25/25L no longer stops at downtown Kitchener. So if people living in the northern part of Kitchener want to go to Square One direct without making transfers in Peel Region, they'll have to go to one of the 2 universities in Waterloo to take 25/25C/25L.

      I used the #30 service on Sunday of the Victoria Day weekend to/from Union Station. Total trip time about 2 hours each way including 10-15 minutes transfer time at Bramalea (and the washrooms at Bramalea are well-kept). Buses both ways were double deckers, no washrooms on board. The $10 day pass, which downloads to your phone (same for the $15 weekend pass BTW) saved me a KFC-sized bucket on the fare!

    I take the Kitchener line between Kitchener and Guelph regularly, (my presto card is set default trip between Kitchener-Guelph, which means I don't need to tap off when travelling between those stations), occasionally to Toronto too, really enjoy it, and actually faster and way less stressful than driving on 401.
    Weekend service on Kitchener line has been a long waiting demand for lots of us here in Waterloo. Driving to Toronto for a blue-Jay game on a weekend was a disaster, it literally took 3 hours after half hour just for parking.
    also for the train, technically you are requested to tap at the transfer point/stations. For instance, if I want to go from kitchener to Barrie, I need to transfer at the union, I tap at kitchen to start the trip, tap off at the union, then board on Barrie line, and tap off at Barrie.

    • @LivinginCanada
