- This is the Cyclists guide to riding bikes in Yosemite National Park. From how to get in, where to stay, when to come, where to ride and my pro tip about the best way to experience Yosemite.

BackCountry.com helped my family enjoy Yosemite to fullest and provided the camping gear we used in this video. But they also have a ton of other stuff on the site, even a bunch of cycling related products. Check them out, because they supported me and this video.
Cycling in Yosemite is an ABSOLUTE amazing experience and if possible, you should ride it. Yosemite National Park has the ability to change your life. Its that amazing.
This video is supported by Backcountry, but its solid information about cycling or riding a bike in Yosemite. Hope you enjoy.

A man drove to Yosemite and at the entrance he told the ranger, "I've only got an hour before I have to leave. What should I do?" The ranger offered this advice, "Pull over, sit on the curb and cry."
Hey, just wanted to tip my hat to you man, you’ve got the right attitude. I’m a lifelong rider, almost 70 years old, and have been involved with many cycling confraternities. They’re not often warm and inclusive. I think that both you and Jasper are great representatives for the sport. Thanks for making us all look good...
Thanks bro! I have also been apart of cycling communities that were not great ambassadors for the sport. I hated the way they represented cyclists and wanted to be different. Glad to hear your thoughts
Who would disliked this very informative video? Thank you for sharing all these things and can’t wait to cycle around this majestic place.
me and the gang are cycling that area next month. i hope everything comes through
Park might not be open, make sure to check.
Thanks for the videos Tyler. I watched the videos you did with Chris Miller and visited Yosemite in September this year. Was fortunate enough to convince the wife to drive the rental. Stayed at Big Trees Lodge. Rode to Yosemite Village, did the tourist things there and the wife drove me up to Glacier Point. She drove back to Big Trees Lodge and I rode back and saw a bear by the side of the road. What a memorable day.
Hands down this is one of my favorite VC videos, super helpful. Would love to see more like this.
SO GREATFUL Yosemite is bike friendly, safe with car-free paths. Thank you YNP!! Great video THX!😘
Good and honest video! I live in Merced and biked my regular Schwinn bike to the Yarts then biked all day in Yosemite. I go to Yosemite often because my daughter works there but you see so much more and appreciate it more while biking. Thanks for reminding me how much I miss riding there haha
Thanks for the camera footage and confidence builder to ride into Yosemite. We were not sure about cycling on the mountain roads with narrow bike lanes. My son and I are now planning to ride from Bass Lake to Yosemite Valley to visit with my daughter working seasonally at the Ahwahnee Hotel.
Dude ur video was fire! Thanks 👊
i did yosemite several years ago and i stayed in oakhurst @ best western. i just drove into the park daily when i visited the park. the next time i go 1. i want to be able to ride the park
2. i want to camp in the park
and
3. i want to stay for more days while in the park.
the best western was nice, had a comfortable bed to sleep in and a shower to use after being outside in the sun all day after hiking and taking pics, but i love to camp either in my tent or my hammock shelter and staying in the park gives you more options and opportunity. if i didn't live in ky i'd be in that park almost daily.
HEY VC! if you ever arrange a group ride of the park over 3-5 days, i'll do it for sure
Bike ready! Going mid September. Just wanna say this video is tons of help! 🔥
Ansel Adams, Alex honnold, the VC . The 3 Icons of Yosemite
You have to make it a quartet with John Muir.
@@area51xi So true! Just watched a John Muir documentary a few days ago. He’s definitely on the Mt. Rushmore of Yosemite along with those 3. Chris Burkard maybe honorable mention
One of the best cycling inside info videos I've seen. Many thanks VC!
You're a lucky guy living near the park!
Thanks for posting your help with Yosemite cycling adventure. Hope to ride next spring 👍bro
It looks beautiful. Certainly in my top when I travel to the US.
Stay in Camp 4 if you tryin to camp, always a party, always good vibes, super fun international people to meet!
Thanks for the help! Former racer that now enjoys riding and checking out the views. Im not a camper though so I will figure something out. I think I need to request a few vacation days in October
Competitive Cyclist = Backcountry - always a good buying experience from the people in the friendly state of Utah.
That's so nice from you to do this video Tyler. Thanks!😊👍
Dude, I totally needed this information!!
Thanks VC wonderful guide, love the tips about the hidden bike only areas. One tip from me: go in the spring when the waterfalls are most spectacular eg Yosemite falls, vernal falls. And take a good camera.
Totally! Although its nice when its more empty in the colder months.
Staying in bass lake for the bass lake triathlon. Looking forward to doing a few rides days before. Thanks for the suggestions!
Amazing video thank you
Awesome video. Yosemite is my favorite national park. period. Be warned, though: reserving a camping spot on the valley floor is EXTREMELY difficult. Your best bet is crane flat campground which is few miles out of the way but less challenging. Just expect to book it on the first hour (read: minutes) of availability.
Definatly consider going there next year! Same goes for Phil's cookie fondo
was there this past weekend, best place to ride
Lots of good real world info. Thanks bro.
I always new Yosemite was an awesome place to ride, but you just showed it in a way that made it even better! Yosemite is on top of my bucket list! Whenever you Visit Disney World (Orlando, Fl) and need a cycling guide contact me. I’ll lend you a bike and take you to the best spots.
I got my RIDLEY from Back Country. Awesome buying experience. 👌
Thanks!
A born out of time cycling hippie....Cool brah
GREAT VLOG VC !! Great info and great timing as I'm planning for next year to be there in October and this blog has helped so much in either clarifying or confirming plans. THANKS !! I will def hit you up when I'm there and would be awesome to ride with you.
Nothing compares to the tunnel view!
So much room for activities in that tent!
Nice one. Would like to see you do more guides to the area it's a very special place.
My family went the end of May and it was and is as spectacular as you say. We stayed at Tenaya lodge but wished we stayed somewhere else. Next time is sounds like Bass Lake is the place. Love the videos keep it up. Although I wish you made this video back in a April 😛
Thanks
Thank you VC, this is an AWESOME guide - and a 10/10 video - if I ever visit the US I'll be sure to be there :)
Great video, I cannot wait! Thanks a lot
Hey VC, Yosemite is now in my spot to not miss list for my next trip to CA
What a great place. i hope soon
Yo Dude njoyed watching you and Jasper and the Family camping, lovely, I'd like to come to your area,I'm in Staten Island. New York, keep on doing it,I like your Vibe.👍👍👋
You know what video we NEED?! "How to Chipoltle" (Everything you need to know)
Great ides.
I like your info, you really got this bike thing figured out,I'm not vegan but you make me want to try the Burger that you make ,would like the recipe,🤔
Awesome video man Yosemite is on my list of places I want to ride before I die!
thanks for all the Info VC!
Great video, open honest and informative. Outstanding choice of video clips and narrative. Big up VC 👍
Amazing views.😮
Hey VC! You’ve inspired me to do the Glacier Point Ride when they open the road to cyclists only. Been checking the NPS website and road conditions phone #. Are these the best ways to find out when they open? Just curious if they would announce bike only opening via these channels or if they announce it somewhere else. Don’t want to miss it this year! Hope to spot you out there! Love your vids!
Amazing super usefull info. Thanks
Thank you very much for that! Awesome video!
You need backpacking permits to camp in the hiking/backpacking sites during backpacking season
Yes, however every camp site was full and the backpacking sites were all empty but a couple so we were able to stay there.
I’m just getting here this morning. Glacier Road is closed for the entire year 2022 it looks like. Have you been able to ride your bike to glacier Road is it open for cycling or is that closed also? Awesome video thank you. I’m ready for a ride! Just waiting on the sun to come up
Awesome info man!! Could you recommend a good all around bike for Yosemite nothing crazy but good for climbing too?
Nice vid Tyler! Watching this makes me sad that I didn't make the trek through the gold country to get up there this year :(
Mr Yosemite drinking challenge!
1 shot = tunnel view
1 beer swig = glacier point
2 shots = bass lake
full beer = backcountry
37 seconds in...alcohol poison
I was there in may, perfect timing, but unfortunately Tioga rd was closed east side...
Great info...now just have to work on the 9365 mile commute to get there :(
People are nuts if they don't subscribe to this channel! 🤘🖖
Nooo...you're revealing all the insider secrets. Now my early May trips to Yosemite will be even more crowded. Seriously though, the tent cabins are not bad and you can get heated ones. But you do need to reserve early (like 6 months early). And if you have kids, then biking in the valley is unbeatable.
Thanks for the vid…. My wife and I are coming mid September if we can get an RV spot in the valley. We want to ride in the Valley itself so we are looking for mileage loops and rides if you have anything let me know
Jim
If you ever come ton ride in norway hit me up dude!
Great info. Got a few questions. Would it be possible park the car somewhere by the intersection of Glacier Point road and Wawona Rd, and ride up to the tunnel? I was thinking early May when the park is not open yet. How’s the traffic on41 when the park is not open?
I was there back in 2001. Would love to go back but on my bike instead of in a car.
Its the best way to see it!
Thank you VC, this National Park is pure beauty. Hope local authorities will keep away Starbucks, McDonald'd and anything that will damage this unique scenery and peaceful harmony. You obviously love this place very much, they should appoint you Yosemite on-2-wheel Ambassador. Any grand Fondo or Sportive up and around this Park?
Too late. Starbucks is already in Yosemite Valley, at Yosemite Lodge.
2nd pro tip, camp at The Vegan Cyclist place...
Great tips - I’m gonna drive in and bike around the valley - where exactly is the 5 mile bike trail
I'd love to go there one day. @VC, are you going to host that ride like I think you did some other years? Maybe that would be a good excuse to get over there.
The camp in May? Yep.
@@TheVCAdventures cool. How can I learn more?
Suggestions on renting a road bike in the area 1-3 days? No cruisers!
Hey Tyler, thanks for the video.
Planning a 4-day trip to Yosemite beginning of May. Will definitely do the valley and Glacier Point. Any other must-ride routes? Maybe around Bass Lake?
So bad news bro... the snow pack is so bad that Glacier point will most likely be closed. But email me and I will send you a must do route near bass. Vc@thevegancyclist.com
Thanks VC for this yet another great video. I definitely was looking for this.
I am thinking of driving up from Fresno (stay in a motel) and driving up to Wawona Lodge or even Bass lake in a rental car with my bike.
The plan is to start from Fresno really early in the morning 4:00 AM, reach Wawona, park over there, and start riding to the valley, maybe ride around for the day, then return back to the car. The second day I might try riding up to Glacier point, unfortunately I have never ridden uphill. My trip is planned for May end. I would like to have camped in the valley, but I have zero skills in camping...
Are there places in Wawona or Bass Lake where the car can be parked for an entire day until evening?? What about passes, I believe one needs a park permit for visiting national parks in California...
I do tours, for about $500 I put up in my house, feed you home cooked meals, take you into Yosemite, supply all the ride food and lunch and do a dinner afterwards. It's badass. We can also do a 2 or 3 day mini camp if you're up for it. Email me at VC@THEVEGANCYCLIST.COM if that at all sounds if interest.
Thanks for that video VC, I'm going to save it as I really hope to get out there next year...2020 at the latest.
Hope you're staying safe with the wildfires.
Great info. I definitely wanna do that one day. I’m in San Diego. What’s the best way to hit you up?
Hi, thanks for the video! Is it possible to do this ride in mid January? I love to ride in the winter, but I couldn't figure out if the road conditions are clear/safe enough to ride.
Depends on weather. But usually you can ride year around on the valley. It’s cold, but rideable.
@@TheVCAdventures Thank you! Makes me very happy to hear that!
Are there any routes in or near the park that would be good for gravel bikes? Mixed surface would be ideal: paved, gravel roads, smooth singletrack, or forest service roads.
Seems like i'd need to sched off for a few long wkends in late apr/early may. pay more for refundable airline tix (maybe hotel as well), then when its announced. take that and cancel the rest. Well perhaps 1 day... -U10
Assuming half of the big ride would be the valley + glacier point right?
Great video, thanks man! Maybes I missed it, but if I wanted to camp, which campsite would be best to be based at for a few days?
Upper or lower pines
How dangerous is it to ride on the road that goes to Yosemite (from Lee Vining)?
HI Man, I'm from Colombia (latin-america), I love to ride bikes and it's kinda dream to travel and know Yosemite by Bike.. I'm just wonder if should be a good Idea to travel on November 2021 and try to stay or do a Yosemite Bike Ride Track (camping).. like 3 or 4 Days.. and then continue to death Valley. If you can give me some information about it or some suggestions, it would be great, Thanks Man! I really appreciate this video.
Absolutely! You can pop out of Yosemite into bishop and head to Death Valley. November is PERFECT weather!
@@TheVCAdventures Thanks buddy!
Hi Vegan, Ill be riding at Yosemite between October 3rd and the 6th any chance you´ll be riding those days ?
I will be home in Bass lake, if you are near there, we should connect
would you recommend riding up to glacier point for an inexperience rider?
Yeah, it’s not too bad. Just be careful on the descent.
how is the weather first week of Nov?
Do you rude HWY 41 to get to the South entrance? Rode there this past Friday & HWY 41 seems super sketch
Very helpful. What about sleeping in your car or van? Can you find a campsite to stay in a van?
FormulaWill you can totally sleep in your car in a canpsite.
never been this early 😂
How long to do the bike trip
One day
if you camp are there public toilets and showers?
DanTuber there are working toilets/sinks throughout the park but showers depends on where you stay
Is there any Youth Hostels around by you Tyler ?!
No, that's not a thing in the US. Had a kid from Germany come and he totally thought he was going to be able to find a hostel but it's not like that here, you have to be over 18 and with a credit card
Did you go camping when the Bears where asleep ?! Hibernation time ?!
Hi I am 45 just September 7th ...and have a credit card ...Do you rent out your back garden for tents and vegan food ?!
Shane Miller (GP Lama)'s You Tube acct was terminated for no apparent reason. Would be great if people could flood You Tube's Twitter with complaints (@CZcams @TeamCZcams).

Ist comment!! 😂
where to rent bikes?
Man... so Yosemite bikes in oakhurst, but they are SOOOO expensive for a day rental
@@TheVCAdventures thanks! i really appreciated what you do here, :) (from Paris)
Why dislike this video? lol
I imagine it's the same handful of suspects that do the same with each of them. It's quite silly.
is this true?
No, Yosemite is a fictional land. It doesn't exist, dont go
air bnb dude.
