Was This The PERFECT Gravel Race Course For RACING?
I raced the Rattlesnake Gravel Grinder in Sweetwater Texas and out of all the courses Ive raced, this may just be the best! In this gravel race breakdown I explain what makes a great race course, I walk you through my race, and attempt to make an argument that HARDER DOESN'T MEAN BETTER.

TOO FAST TOO EXCUSES - Stage 3 of the Tucson Bicycle Classic 6 Days In Arizona (ep. 6of 6)

In this episode of the six days in Arizona mini Vlog series, we go through the final stage of the Tucson bicycle classic. It was an extremely fast circuit race that had a decent little climb at the start finish line and some really tight turns caused havoc for me. I tried to explain why I erased in a division that was above my pay grade, talk about the connection with my son on this trip, and r...

In this episode of the Arizona daily Vlog series, I try to make the time cut of stage two of the Tucson bicycle classic. This road race started faster than any race I’ve ever done and I felt like I was breathing through my butt hole from the gun. I did my best to stay with the group to make the time cut. I’m racing the pro category which I absolutely do not belong in, but we are trying to see just how I stack up against the best in the country of the three stages, this is the time trial. It’s short and you need tons of power. Even though I’m not the best, I sure do...

    Yo, VC. Use your extra weight to your advantage. Let people outclimb you and then get super aero (aerobars would help a ton) on the descents and flats and you'll catch right back up. Works like a charm. Let them accordion in front of you and you fall off the back and catch back up over and over again. You'll get more draft affect than trying to be at or off the front and end up using less watts to go the same speed. And then at the end, pass them for the win.

  • @ZenEndurance
    @ZenEndurance Před dnem

    Don't forget that courses that destroy your bike are a huge turnoff. Peanutbutter mud, deep water crossings, stupid rough and tight pinch points that cause collisions... There's a whole sport of obstacle course and mud racing and if we wanted to do that, we would have signed up for that. I can't afford to destroy my bike just to get 20th place in my age group or DNF. So a nice course with reasonable design that is actually rideable is where people will end up spending their money.

    • @TheVCAdventures
      @TheVCAdventures Před 2 dny

      I feel like you may have watched too much tour da France videos or are grabbing from your personal experience of riding your local group ride. A couple things, 1; The GoPro is ULTRA WIDE and in my mouth, this makes things in front of me look way farther away. If it was mounted under the computer mount like many others are, you’d see it differently. 2; This was a 5 hour race in which I condensed down to the most exciting 30min. Meaning most if not all the boring sit in draft clips are cut out. There’s no point in showing a dudes ass for 5 minutes. 3; When you understand your power zones, you understand you can’t just lock onto a wheel and blow yourself up. When the group surges and the power required to stay on the wheel goes above my V02, it’s way more important to stay in your zone than stay on the wheel. There are exceptions to this but in most gravel races, gaps open and gaps close, like they did here. Road and gravel are different tactics, road is more dependent on draft, but gravel not so much. It’s better for me to let a gap open and not burn a match than roast all my matches and get flicked later cause I’m spent.

      @@TheVCAdventures Hey man, cool of you to react to my comment. I am a Dutch guy who in his youth was a very active road cyclist, cyclo crosser in the winters, and i even did velodrome racing. I have been watching your videos for a couple of years now so this is definitely not the first time i have noticed this. You are almost always in the very back of the group keeping 2 bike lengths between the rider ahead of you. I see you doing 4-500 watts just to keep up, while if you would be in the middle of the group you would have to do 150 watt. It is not just this video, i love watching videos of races and have watched all your races, especially the gravel ones. If you want to film other stuff than sitting in a wheel that is totally understandable but i think you are kind of making excuses for why you are not close in the wheel drafting. I think you are a selfmade cyclist, never been really trained like i was from a young age, so you never really learned the importance of certain cycling techniques even though you obviously understand them and realize the need for them. It really feels to me like you think you don’t need the drafting as much and that it maybe is not worth it to you taking the risk of falling and making someone else fall. I always see you work so hard just to keep up with the front group hanging of the back giving it your all. I often see people behind you overtaking you to take the gap you let open up. It happens like 4-5 times in this video, and it reminds me of my times as a cyclist and how annoying it would be if someone let the gap open and you had to close it…. Im definitely not saying you are not brave enough for cycling but I do really feel like maybe you think the risks of being in the wheel at all times are too great, maybe you don’t like not being able to see everything or maybe you don’t trust your fellow riders. What i also think is that you maybe feel as if you do not belong in the middle of the first group. That you are not like those known names and feel slightly embarrassed being in the front around them so you hang more in the back. You have the endurance and stamina to keep up with the top and I really think that in a lot of your races you couldn’t keep up because you weren’t drafting right and you wasted way too much power. I don’t think it is as much about you not being able to keep up with the front group but way more about you using far too much power unnecessarily. Also going uphill, drafting has so much more impact than i think you realize. By far this would be my number 1 advice and i think would have the most impact on improving your cycling: train your drafting, train riding in the middle of a group, handlebars to bumcheecks for prolonged periods of time, learn to ride without seeing what is ahead of you. Love the videos.. this was purely constructive and positive criticism!

    • @TheVCAdventures
      @TheVCAdventures Před 2 dny

      This is a 100% free option, it’s the app Garmin Virb. It’s a fuckin nightmare to use 😂 The way I do it is I upload a 4 hour blue screen video to the program, then upload my data file that I pull from Training peaks because Strava strips power, then I add the gauges, color them, export, then key out the blue background and lay it over my footage in adobe premiere. I make sure my Garmin screen has total time displayed and total time on the overlay. Then I manually sync the footage based on my Garmin screen and overlay… it’s a blast😳

    • @Sir-Kay
      @Sir-Kay Před 2 dny

      @@TheVCAdventures I get the concept but, let's say I have exactly 7min 25sec video ready to be overlayed upon in Virb edit, how do I get a blue or green screen uploaded to Virb? & how long is it supposed to be since I only have a 7:25mins video and is it supposed to be done within Virb? For me I don't even have map displayed for me to easily sync the video at a spot I am familiar with with the overlay, what I do is go to my Strava, find the spot I'm familiar with, take note of the time then, I manually sync it with the overlays. Hope this isn't too many questions, please not, I'm doing this for the first time.
