Thank you Hamish and Hannes. As a Rifleman in 6 Troop during 1973 (Intake 129) Martin Pearce was our Troop OC and Charlie Aust was the 2 Commando OC. Mr Aust quite often use to patrol with us allowing the stick leader to retain command of the stick. Certainly a fine bunch of men.
Hamish's Dad used to have my Dad and I in fits of laughter, he had a great sense of humor...

Best interview yet , without taking away any of the service & sacrifice of all the other men's stories .
God bless đ you all !
I would love to hear part 2, his life after leaving Rhodesia, his path into a PMC and his current job and life goals. Fascinating man.
The fact Hamish stated he learnt from his NCOs in combat is commendable. Yes i remember when you came to 8 troop Hamish. Trevor was amazing. Thanks for a great interview Hannes and Hamish.
James, watched your interview, Guiana Fowl days we fun
@@guydaines6916 long time buddy, trust you are well.
Such a great review of what it takes, sadly we were sold down the road by the US/UK so we were never to win a military war. Now look how Zim has ended & 95% of the locals are suffering. Wd Hamish.
Your comments ring true , l live in Australia now & unfortunately Australia was also party to the propaganda war against Rhodesia's fight for survival , Australia was also on the bandwagon with Mandela & his Communist ANC thugs .l remember seeing false , grossly fake stories & doctored photos on the evening national news to sway the Australian public.
Rhodesia has gone from Breadbasket to a failed basket case, South Africa is on the same course, Sad.
Take care friend.
It was not necessarily any better under the old Rhodesian government. My grandfather was a black African border guard And he says that the government treated most of its citizens like animals. The glorification of Rhodesia is a romanticized exaggeration of what it really was like for the average person.
Great interview
One of the best Iâve listened to
I had the absolute pleasure of working for your dad Derry here in Botswana when he was the MD of Bolux Milling âŠ. What a gentleman and an amazing character
Today finally watched this video brought back memories of Lovers, John Schots, Ronnie Travis, Joe DuPlooy, Nigel Theron, and Bob Hope not to mention Guy Mackenzie, Fraser Brown was on our rookie's course with Zane Welensky and Stuart Hodgson. Salute!
Proud to own a copy of Derryâs book Rough diamonds and Other Gems - brilliant stories and anecdotes! Get yourself a copy. Well done Hamid
Excellent talk from Cpt Macintyre. I hope thay you can induce him to return soon. He surely must have some more great re-counts for us, John, Hannes. His old man's 'hunting' penchant reminds me of my old man. If all his seed took root he would command a platoon! High 'prey-drive'. Dad is 92 now, and still keeps an eye peeled for the fillys. Always was a hard bugger.
Interesting points about the modern day soldiers.
Ivan and Dodds and Steve were my rookies' fantastic guys naughty as hell!
Good to see you back home safe and sound. ...next on this series I am looking forward to hearing your Afghanistan stories.
This interview is a great prelude to much, much more....let's hear it. You can see he is a man of great depth.
Well Done Hamish .. great interview from a different prospective. We Rhodesians are very proud of all your achievements to all you warriors who fought a good fight till the bitter end . Tatenda for your service . Would like to hear more from Hamish . Tatenda John and Hannes đđ»
Great interview Hannes and Hames, good too see you again my old China.
Thanks Russ
Hannes and John, I have not missed a single episode in the series and have commented on many, but I have to say, in my personal opinion, this is my favourite, despite Mr MacIntyre being in 2 Cdo!! Would like to fill the gap between the World tour in 1979/80 to Baghdad in 2003 Sir, but understand if you would like to keep this off the radar. If I have one wish, it's that Lovemore is kicking Zipra/Zanla arse on the parade ground. Tatenda Gents!!!
Pamberi ne Hondo, was the ^ troop war cry as we took off on a FF gig. I hope lovers is retired and safe in the Msana tribal area, having made a mint
@@hamishmacintyre6868 That would be a fitting retirement for a loyal comrade. â Keep your head down Sir!â
An incredible interview! I would like to have the privilege of meeting Hamish. Respect to him and to you Hannes. What you are doing...capturing this history is of such value to all of those who relate to Rhodesia and the war years and our history. Many thanks.
As I've said before, the troopie did his part, unfortunately politics ended the country. Both gentlemen were correct in their assumption that it was only a matter of time. Great interview !
Another excellent interview, thank you
Excellent interview (as always :) and proud to have served with you all those years ago in 2cdo, Hamish!
As always another great interview. Hamish was a strong member of our cadet course and am glad to call him my friend. Well done my mate.
Nice chat thanks. Another good Chaplin boy. God Bless you all.
What a great interview, thanks guys.đ
The DFAC at Victory. Incredible. They had a PX there as well. They could buy a car or a Harley to pick up when they got back.
Really enjoyable talk. Great.
Good to hear the stories of Lovers. What a character.
Another great interview, thanks Hamish, Hannes, John and the background crew.
With what the Rhodesian forces had to work with they fought spectacularly, better then many more better equipped armies.
Hamish trust you are well bugger , been waiting for this one !! Good job guys !!
The Victory DFAC. Unbelievable. I was in Bâdad same times. Hard days
Informative and entertaining! I know a few of the 2 Cdo. guys. Trevor Hodgson was called to higher ground recently, RIP.
My Dad was at lewellyn until he died in1960 my Mum spoke of your Family often I was in 149 Then 2cdo!
Great interview Hamish, thanks and hope allâs well.
Thanks Ray, trust you are well
Hello Hamish I hope alls well. Thanks for the couple of name checks :)Take care.
Hamish my Dad was WO1 OR 2 AT Lewellen in MT, My Mom always said she knew your Mom and Dad when He was a Sargent in the camp we lived at camp I was born in57 mates with Webbs , Smiths Nicholases , Burns Davidson was the Doc what memories! Old Man killed in a car crash in 1960!
Sorry Hamish, but Posterity says you owe it (and viewers of this channel!) at least one (lengthy) encore! Further âinterrogationâ is called for! In addition to all of your experience as an officer in the RLI (Hannes hardly could scratch the surface), you worked with many of the main manne or got to know them via your father. You have informed insights and impressions to share, and your evident thoughtfulness will make them all the more valuable.
Thanks again for the great stories guys
Much enjoyed presentation. Thank you.
I seem to remember the other 2 Commando batman besides Lovemore was Langton.
Hamish you look just like your DAD!
Hamish you talked about the lavish provisions that US troops had in Iraq. Dad was a Sgt in the South African Medical Corps attached to the SA 6th Armoured Division in Italy. After Monte Cassino the division fell under the command of General Bradley, US 5th Army, for the rest of the campaign. Dad said the American soldiers would threaten to mutiny if they didn't get their ice cream and Coke.
I remember my Dad's bunny jacket pockets were stuffed with what I thought were dog biscuits until he said they lived on them. Hard as rock . Eaten by dipping them in tea to soften them.
Hamish, great insights from a former Chaplin chap ha ha , Your old man and my dad had many great years together in those wonderful friendship years.
I have your dads book , go well Guy Daines
They were great mates Guy. Trust you are well buddy
Hi Kevin yep good booky old man is mentioned in it Peter Daines
I had the honour of working with Hamish during the early years of the war in Iraq, he was, and still is the only guy I would follow into hell. Good to see you my old friend, and looking well. All the best, Mike G.
Thanks Mike good to hear from you
Travel well Hamish
In the trenches learning given by the RSM perfrct
John have you tried to interview Mich Rich, leaves in Cape Town
Hannes and I will ask him ;) Good idea!
What happened to the old Rhodesian retirees and wounded vets after Rhodesia became Zimbabwe? Did they get any type of pension or care?
Not that I am aware of
Maybe I am beset by fantasy here , but I would have preferred to have seen Hamish bringing up his grandchildren in a prosperous Rhodesia, rather than dodging booby traps on behalf of a "security company" in Bagdad. Sorry it went so wrong - - -.
There seems to be a jump from not joining SA Defence Forces to being in Iraq working for a security company. How did Hamish become part of security over there?
Warty, not joining the SADF does not mean I didnt work with them, plus I had a security company in South Africa which I sold and was recruited in 2003 by a British company.
@@hamishmacintyre6868 Thanks Hamish, I really enjoyed your story. I was in intake 103 RR, but left Rhodie for Australia, end of 1970 long before the proverbial hit the fan.
Hamish and Hannes
Weren't a ratpack 5*? đđ
If you did 20 km a day ,Bully beef ,dog biscuit, milkshake and Dirkie were đđđđđđđ
I like listening to these stories off and on âŠâŠI have a couple of questions off topic? Did any Rhodesian forces fight with the SADF in Angola during there bush war in the west of Africa? 2nd after the country became Zimbabwe ( đđđ ) did any Rhodesian troops come back to the uk and serve and make up companies or was that a no no after the way our government treated you
Does anyone know what happened to Rene Regtein(?) who was mentioned at 18:51?
Kim Strong Rene is alive and well, he lives in Brisbane Australia now.
Yah man I've got nothing against the Ukrainian soldiers and what they fighting for just imagine if Rhodesia could have got equipment throwen at them like what is happening now.its not comparable I suppose but at least Russia now gets to feel the pinch of sanctions and being pariahas but thanks for your service!
What company did Hamish work for during his time in Iraq?
I work for Reed international which as far as I am concerned having watched and spoken to many guys from other companies ione of, if not the best company in this field
@@hamishmacintyre6868 Thanks for the reply, Sir, and for telling your stories.
Is Cpt. the American abbreviation for the rank of Captain?
RMY
Yes it is Richard
Good interview, Captain.

please try and get your mic sorted. it's terrible.đź
We're limited by the equipment the interviewee has on his side. Hannes has a pro mic but the guy he's interviewung may be using a tablet or a smart phone or his laptop mic. Then you are restricted by the internet speed on both sides of the zoom call. These interviews are not done in a studio usually, but over a zoom meeting often in different countries. Apologies for the poor audio!
@@fightingmenofrhodesia John, I am sure you improve it. Just listen to your recordings.

If you take everything into account I thought it was excellent and in fact did not miss a word...Geez, it is an interview with a guy sitting in an office over the internet doing a zoom call. Give the team a break. Its not CNN or the BBC
