We had a mini convention here in Cary NC. There was around 225 people there and there was not a time when this game wasn't being played at least twice at a time. Such an amazing game.
I can totally see that, especially once folks got a game or two under their belt.
What is that convention called? I live in Cary and would love to check it out!
It's called TBGT (That Board Game Thing) This is an invitation only convention. But Rob also puts on 2 more local events called Whose Turn Is It. Which is also pretty freaking awesome. whoseturn.org/
Thank you, sir!
Laminate the playmats and use dry erase markers instead of those dumb cubes to track your income levels.
That's a great idea.
Would work fine too.
Just finished my first successful solo game on Tabletop Simulator. This game is fun, even solo. I didn't play the Corporate Era game, as I didn't want to make it too hard. But now that I know what I'm doing, I see how deep and fun this game really is.
Question: I get that you receive a 2 credit bonus if you place anything adjacent to an aqua fir. Do you get the same credit if you place the aqua fir adjacent to tiles that have already been placed? In other words if I had a city or greenery tile already placed then later placed an ocean tile adjacent to them would I still get the bonus or is it only when you place one next to an already placed ocean?
You do get it after the fact as you say.
Scott Franklin no you don't get it from placing an ocean down next to anything that is not another ocean (or aquifer as you say)
It makes me sad that I will probably never have a game group that would appreciate this type of game. The game is gorgeous. Phenomenal review. Love your chanel.
Thanks Eric!
when paying for cards can you use the combination of money, steel and titanium? do you get money every round = to the points you have on the main board?
You can pay the combination based on the icons on the top of the card. If you don't see the steel icon, you can't use steel to pay for it. Yes, money every round = to what you have on the board (plus whatever other income you generate from cards and your player board).
Cards have tags in the upper right, such as Science, Space, Jovian, Building, etc. All cards can be purchased with money. However, cards that have the building tag can be purchased with a combination of money and steel, with each steel cube discarded from your supply providing $2 toward the cost of playing the card from your hand. Cards with the Space tag can be purchased with any combination of money and titanium, with each titanium discarded providing $3 toward the cost of playing the card. Some corporate special abilities or card abilities may make your steel or titanium more valuable or let you spend those resources for other things.
Great overview, thanks for the video.
every review has been super positive for this one... i';m really looking forward to getting my hands on a copy :) I love multi use cards in games too. thinking about using D10's instead cubes for the player boards.
That could certainly work just fine.
Comparing this and something like the Gallerist, are the BGG complexity ratings correct? I found Gallerist tough but rewarding. At first glance this looks just as complex, if not more.
In my estimation no, this is not close to the complexity of Gallerist. That's a tricky topic, as some folks handle a hand of cards differently than others. For my money, this is a "medium" when compared to Gallerist, but probably "heavy" compared to the large majority of releases this year.
Thanks, I think I'll pick this one up. Sounds like I won't have much trouble getting a handle on this.
Ya... It's mostly... "OK... now what the heck do I with these cards."
Any thoughts on the solo variant?
Hey G. Sorry. I am just now seeing this. I did try the solo variant years ago. It didn't really make an impression on me, sorry.
This look like such a good story game I'm 100000%getting it because you said it can be played by yourself and since I no friends this is a win in my books
When you said expansion, did you mean the Asteroid promo?
No just that extra deck of cards. It's called an "expansion", but it comes with the game.
Terra Mystica meets RftG meets Scepter of Zavendor
I'm not familiar with Scepter of Zavendor but Terraforming Mars is nowhere near as good the former two examples. I found it excessively fiddly, very random (even with drafting) and too long (tried it 4 players). It's not even an engine builder. You just stack up cards that increase income. That's it. There are some synergies in that huge deck but getting the right ones is pure chance. I was really not impressed with it.
Stronghold Games has been on fire lately!
Definitely. Really ramping it up this past year plus.
Next stop: Being bought by Asmodee :(
Buonocore insists they are Asmo-ready.
I wasn't aware of the Asmodee situation. Ultimately, as long as the product doesn't fail us, all is fine.
Is it wrong to call this Race for the Galaxy with a board; like Trains is Dominion with a board?
I almost subtitled it "Race for the Galaxy: The Board Game" ;)
Race is the greatest card game ever, so you just removed money from my pocket. Not really a fan of Stronghold Games, but this is now on my radar. Thanks man.
I read some comments on BGG stating that the card drafting variant is necessary for this game. Otherwise you will get screwed with an unlucky card draw. Race is awesome because if you get a bad card draw you can just use those cards as currency, and explore/trade for more. I would hate to be in a 2 hour game and have no hope based on a lucky card draw. Plus Race only lasts for 20 min/game.
I don't know. Card drafting is better. But, the luck kind of shakes itself out over the course of the game imo. You draw a lot of cards.
In Terraforming Mars you can sell off the cards you no longer want for money.
This or Scythe?
Two very different game to be honest. If you held me to it, I would have a hard time answering. Maybe a slightly edge to this, because I'm a sucker for the multi-use cards aspect.
Since from what you say these games are almost equally good,I'm leaning more towards Scythe because the setting and artwork are more to my liking. Thanks for the fast reply !
Neither.
