The #1 highest rated board game of all time is now a PC game. Is this a good conversion, or was it better left on the table?
It's finally out on consoles! My opinion on this game has not changed since then, and I still highly recommend it even on controller.

My wife, who traditionally does not like RPGs of any kind, loves to pop in for a session of gloomhaven. Her and I will get a devilishly look after dinner some nights, throw the leaves into our little dining room table and sprawl out Jaws of the Lion. Her experience really more than mine makes me admire the game. I think the deck building/deck combo angle is one of many hooks
What a superb review, just the facts, concise pointed all in 4 minutes. You know the game and told us. Most excellent!!!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Just wanted to correct some misleading info that might put anyone off.
The digital version absolutely has a Tutorial comprised of multiple missions, it can be accessed straight from the Main Menu or optionally played through at the start of the Guildmaster mode.
Loved the board game, but you're right, it does take forever to set up and take down, plus it needs tons of space. I'll have to try the digital version now!
Wow, thank you for the concise summary!
My pleasure!
Great video!
I love this game!
Good review
Great review!
Thanks!
For anyone new to gloom haven jaws of the lion is a great place to start if it looks interesting. The first scenarios actually work as a tutorial for the game. Idk if this is the same for the video game adaptation but irl it is the easiest way to learn the game
It is very hard. Even some of the "tutorials" gave me a hard time and needed multiple tries to pass. In real game, the constant struggle of not enough moves/turns to pick up gold and treasure chests also makes it less satisfying after winning battles.
Yeah, I found that you can set custom (modded) rulesets that basically streamline a lot of the tedium and it helped me enjoy the game a lot more.
This game is currently FREE on the Epic Games Store!

This game is free on the Epic Store at the moment until next Thursday.
Is there a quickplay type of MP or is it by invite only? I don't know about the replayability. I play Demeo and love it, but watching gameplay of GH seems like dungeons are just different colors with different enemies. 🤷♂
every game dungeons are different colors with different enemies lol what do u expect
@whitefox25 I would have liked to see backgrounds that dont look the same other than color. It's not very immersive in that sense. I see this game as the combat element being the focus and not adventuring. And that could be their target as it is popular but not for me
Always had this on my radar but never played it. thought about buying it as a boardgame or try the PC game, I guess now I have to buy the PC game
Boardgame is fun but the set up and take down takes forever! I think the digital version is best for solo.
Don't buy it, it's free on epic store right now, just a heads up
Gloomhaven the board game is great. Difficult, but great. We were always scraping by to win a dungeon, but we made it!
I’ve played Demeo with my wife on Quest 2 and now MacOS and iPadOS. We like that it has a good balance of simplicity and complexity, and wondering if this would be a good next step of a game to play for us. Any Demeo players recommend this game or can give a comparison?
One thing that is hard with demeo is that you feel like we need to do all 3 stages in one sitting and that can take a while often draining the VR or iPad battery. We tend to try and do 1hr or less of gaming when we do sit down to play which is tricky with these type of games.
We have a Nintendo Switch and M1 Mac’s to play on using the steam version. Also have a mini pc that does some light gaming but probably underpowered.
I bought it and I thought it looked great, however it was just far far too hard for me and I ended up uninstalling it only 3 hours in. The vertical difficulty curve combined with being overloaded with info just killed it for me sadly.
Just here to echo the sentiment that the physical board game never hits the table in our home because of how long the setup and tear down is, but on the Steam game I was able to retrace months of play that our 3-person crew completed on just a few days.
Also, as for the long turns, they have patched in a fast forward toggle, just make sure to keybind it and it speeds things way up!
Why he use Diablo soundtrack as music?
can u play online against other player ?
There's no competitive multiplayer (the game is co-op) but you can play co-op online!
I do not like strat games and i would NEVER take a chance wasting money i worked hard for, on one. Thanks to epic games giving it away for free, i tried it. Im still not a fan of the genre but i really do enjoy it. Maybe it will lead me to try another game
Divinity original sin 2 might be worth a try
Just got it for free on Epic as well. Have not tried it yet.
@@Esteban45696 Divinity is one of the best game for me, it's super large, fun, and music make good job building immerison. Even if u don't like turn based RPG u SHOULD try it. I always see DoS 2 on big steam sale.
The one thing I hate about this game is the lack of resources, specifically the exhaustion mechanic and inability to recover burnt cards between encounters. Just to move between rooms your characters are going to become exhausted and you have to reset the entire dungeon, not fun, can't even get through the first dungeon because of this after sever attempts, enough to get most people cursing your game.
All the cons are pros to me. 😂
I hope the boardgame is nothing like the digital version. Ive had it in my wishlist for a long time. Tried digital game and did not like it.
its exactly the same why would it be different lmao

I'm a huge lover of tactical games, RTS, puzzle solving, deck-builders and RPGs. I love games that are LIKE Gloomhaven. But having spent some time playing it now I cannot recommend it. The game is slow, yes, but unfortunately it's excruciatingly so. This game completely lacks the feel of a modern 'game'. Combat is not as rewarding as it should be. Events feel very random, like there is no right choice. Not even a consideration; the outcome is random anyway. A pure roll of the die isn't fun gameplay; we need some agency. The mechanics are somewhat complex but again very unrewarding to learn. Spend hours learning to game for it to feel sluggish right away. This slowness is also a problem when you lose your heroes. Because it takes so much time to get somewhere and you're attempting to build up something it's a really bad feeling when you then lose a character because of progression. Not because of bad choices or even bad luck; you get punished for progressing. In conclusion, don't pay for this game.
You don't "lose" characters. You get new ones.
This is the best board game of all time. Maybe you're the problem.
@@SpoonyBard88 lol imagine getting triggered and crying over someones review of a board game. Ya that reviewer is your problem... as well as Im sure a million other things like not being a pathetic wine'o.
I wanted to like it, but it's too slow and non-intuitive for me.
looks confusing.
I got it for free and cant bring myself to try it, looks overly complicated and confusing.
this game is a buggy craptastic mess, skills dont work, the ui is incoherent and completely broken, this game feels like bad 10$ mobile game stay away and save your money
