What is your favourite iteration of Robin Hood?
The sneaky thief who stole a lute in Constantinople during the IVth Crusade... He was 'Robbing Oud. Had a good theme tune.
Yeah, I like the relatively modern idea with all the cluster of tropes that go with it - He's Robin of Locksley, the Norman vs. Saxon angle, waiting for Richard the Lionheart to be ransomed, the disguise in the Archery contest, the staff fight in the river with Little John, all that stuff.
What is basically the swiss version: Wilhelm Tell. Would maybe make an interesting video as well.

_The world may never know..._
Have you never explained John Doe?
His name was Ned Kelly and he lived in Australia.
I swear I was just reading about that guy.
He lived in Victoria hang in old Melbourne Gaol
No...that was Guy Fawkes.
_His real name was the brave, brave, brave, brave Sir Robin._

he was not afraid to die
Oh brave Sir Robin

Brave Sir Robin.
His head smashed in, and his heart cut out.
And his liver removed, and his bowels unplugged.
I rather like the idea that it was sorta like Fight Club, The "merry men" were all Robin Hood.
Fun Fact: Nottingham (the place where Robin Hood was from) was originally called Snottingham after Lord Snot
Thomas Turner
Before that it was called Boogertingham.
Wait is this serious?
Oh I saw a video on it lol
In a country that names things after directional sexes, anything is possible.
This is probably my favourite Name Explain episode so far. As I live in Nottingham and walk past Nottingham Castle pretty much everyday to get to work
Look out for thieves!
Robin Hood and Little John walkin' through the forest. Laughin' back and forth at what the other'ne has to say. Reminiscin', This-'n'-thattin' havin' such a good time! Oo-de-lally, oo-de-lally, golly, what a day!
Never ever thinkin' there was danger in the water, they just drink they just guzzle it down. Never thinkin' that a schemin' sheriff and his posse was a-watchin' and a-gatherin' around...
Robin Hood vs King Arthur
Who is more famous English mythological character?
Robin Hood, becuase Arthur is British not English.
*Arthur, King of the Britains!*
@@steele_heart77 *Britons
Mod Maker Sargon of Akkad
I believe that most people that heard about one of them surely have heard of both, but Arthur is maybe a bit more famous as he is a king rather than a peasant.
Went to Sherwood forest today! What a coincidence!
theJbomb123 not much of a forest anymore unfortunately. But pretty.
So, Robert/Robin of Locksley, was he invented by Walter Scott (as a character in Ivanhoe)?
Plot Twist: It was John Plantagenet all along
no...I was Oliver Queen!!!
In the first version of Robin Hood I remember reading, he was a nobleman and friend of the king but was forced into exile (can't remember why)
Ohhh now I understand why in french he is called robin of the woods!
Your videos are always interesting. Why is that? I like Robin Hood stories too. They are awesome.
His name was robin hood
Fulk FitzWarin III was my 24th great grandfather. True story.
Robin Hood like neighborhood, a community of Robins.
His real name was *Oliver Queen.* But after he was brought to the future by the time-traveling _Legends of Tomorrow_ , he changed his monicker to GREEN ARROW.
I'm a simple man. I see archery video. I click.
Figured I see you here! What do you think about the painting 4:34? His anchor point sure seem strange to me.
Various legends say his name was Robin of Locksley. The stories vary on what his life was like before becoming an outlaw, though. My personal favorite is that he was a peasant boy on his way to an archery contest when a group of the king's rangers mocked, saying a boy his age couldn't possibly win. When he insisted that he was an excellent shot they challenged him to prove it by shooting a nearby deer. Robin killed the deer instantly in one shot, making fools out of his mockers...so they tried to arrest him for poaching. Robin fled but had to kill one of the rangers in order to escape. Knowing he could never go back his normal life, he fled to the woods and...well, you know the rest.
Eustace the Monk sounds like he could have been a partially inspiration for both Thoros of Myr and Aurane Waters in George RR Martins book series A Song of Ice and Fire.
Edit: Spelling. We giraffes aren't native english speakers.
Liked it because I was so eager to know this

In Thai the term "Robin Hood" is used to refer to a drifter with no prospects in life. "Don't marry him, he's a Robin Hood."
He didn’t steal from the rich to give to the poor, he stole from the state to give to the taxpayer.

Name Explain discord when?
I don’t really know what a discord is but would people want that?
Hopefully soon.
Discord is derived from Latin „discordia“, which means well... „discord“ or „disagreement“
@@NameExplain Discord is an app/service somewhere between social media and Skype. You could make a Discord server and have it accessable to anyone who connects their patreon account to their discord account. Look in to it. Might be a good way to get audience/patreon backers greater communication to you and each other.
I meant to say "Name Explain Discord Server when?"
Suddenly I get visions of stories of Robin Hood in the service of King Arthur X-D
"You name it, he has probable been there"
Robin Hood goes to 'Nam!

Dinosaurs had feathers, get over it!
Pluto is still a planet ;-)
At this time period many English were skandinavian heritaged, either norman or danish. And you could call the normans french if you want...
Most of the nobility spoke french because nobels were often normans and they spoke allready french at that time in the normandy, even if they are skandinavian heritaged.
So there is a good chance of Robin Hood having some french or skandinavian blood.
King John is the inspiration for Robin Hood. John's reign was so bad it inspired many to rebel against him and to this day he is viewed as awful.

Comrade Robin Hood
WHAAAAAAAAT but dinos did actually have feathers and they still look awesome
No mention of Loxley?
Oh Fulk!
I’d arguer that King Arthur is a more iconic figure from English folklore.
I had a friend that told me he thought Robin Hood was real and when I said no he didn’t believe me, he also thought King Arthur and George the Knight fought the dragons!!
Do you know how the archer myth of Robin Hood came to be
So, that's the story and it worked out good King Richard's on the throne and Robin's back in the hood So, let's bid our friends a fond adieu And hope we meet again in Robin Hood Two I said hey I said hey I said hey, nonny, nonny, hey, nonny, nonny, hey, nonny, nonny, hey, nonny, nonny and a here we go!
Was there actually a Roy G. Biv?
Robbin' 'hood.
I only saw the Disney movie
Fun fact you should’ve covered: The kings robin fought were all based on real kings
Well, they were literally "robbin' the 'hood" lol
Funny thing is that we have yet to prove dinosaurs had feathers. It’s all stil speculation at this point. We have actually found fossilized birds with feathers, yet no dinosaurs. Read any article claiming dinosaurs had feathers and they never give an proof for why. I’m not saying it’s impossible, but I think critical thinking is better than blindly believing.
Hai
So the French Robin Hood from Shreck wasn't so inaccurate after all
I'm wishing for a crossover between Robin Hood and King Arthur...
How does Ivanhoe fit in to all this?

So you'd rather be wrong than right? Oh dear, that attitude is behind so much of what's wrong with the world.
I personally prefer this version of ‘Robin Hood’, especially if all suspects were actually in on it.
