Editing a 4K video WHILE recording the entire process? On a tablet? Reasonably fast? I'm getting old because that shit is impressive
Bestie my iPad 7 w an iPhone 7 processor on iOS 16 & 32GB can do the exact same but while overheating 🗿
@@beckamsalvatore1422 A10 Fusion was and still is pretty fast
Weird popping noise… 🙃
I follow u on twitter
@@matisvanasse5905 Thank you!! 🤍
OMGosh the first second of the video had a REALLY loud "pop". Scared me so bad!! But great vid Luke. I'm just glad they brought it to the iPad and I think sooner rather than later, they'll work out the bugs; we'll just have to hope,
This is definitely a great option for newbie creators. A step-up from iMovie but without the upfront costs of a desktop application
Here before the HD version processes
Same🎉
same lol
Same 😢
same xD
it looks horrible why isnt it ready yet
Them audio cuts at the beginning tho
I thought my DAC was throwing a fit…
No external drive support is a big bummer. I hope they add it soon. That’s a MUST for me!
They need to fix that, but imagine this: you’re in the iCloud sphere and do it all with iOS shoot on iPhone, edit on iPad, with the clips syncing in between - even if you could use proxies, how are you supposed to work with the 2 TB iCloud limit? For all your projects? Go home each day and load and unload stuff from iCloud to avoid hitting the limit?
That doesn’t sound very Apple. They should offer higher storage tiers for everyone but especially professionals.
Wait really? That sucks. Imagine shooting with a professional camera and when you’re done you just plug it into the iPad and use the clips. Thatd be the dream!
Requirement for me
@@hatsonchickens I guess you can but you have to use the files app and import it to the iPad/iCloud/whatever. Can’t run directly from external storage it seems. Which makes sense from a speed perspective - even if it’s a USB-C port it’s USB 2.0 in disguise on some models, so that’s 480 Mbit/s. Again, proxies would have solved this; since you don’t really need 4K RAW at all times. It’s a bit of a mess to be honest. Maybe WWDC will come with some improvements.
@@thorsteinj M-series iPads have 10Gbps USB 3.0, speed shouldn't really be a problem.
when you're so early the only quality option is 360p
still cant believe this was announced randomly before wwdc
Great to see, but no subscriptions for me. I will have a look at it when a perpetual license is available. As a an Apple Certified audio professional who uses Logic Pro on macOS professionally on a daily basis for producing and mixing the content on my channel, my albums and for my clients, I firmly believe in ownership and being able to upgrade products when I see fit. This trend of subscriptions happened first with Adobe, then Avid then Waves and now Apple. I have always been and remain a fan of Apple but if the option for purchasing Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro was ever removed from the desktop versions, then I would no longer have need these products. If others want to continue this path and allow companies to take more and more power out of the hands of their customers, then that is their prerogative but I will stand my ground firmly when I say I will not invest in any subscription-only platform. The option for purchasing a perpetual license must always exist. I see several companies trying to make this a trend but I will not allow any trends in the industry to dictate my decisions. If we continue on this path these tech companies are going to start turning operating systems into subscriptions. Can you imaging being forced to pay a subscription fee in order to boot your computer? No thanks. I still buy CDs & DVDs and purchase music from the iTunes Store. I do not believe in music streaming services either. I own my home, my car, my computer, my music, my daw, my plugins and that is not ever going to change. Having said that, I am happy to see that Logic Pro and Final Cut Pro have made it to the iPad. The only thing holding these new apps back are their subscription-only model.
I 100% agree
Yeah I'm sick of things that are subscription only, it's one thing to offer something like that as an option but the idea that you can never actually own something...lamr. Microsoft and Apple and basically everyone else are doing this way too much
Great post. Solid attitude. As soon as Luke said "subscription," that was all I needed to hear.
same here!!!
They need to make it licensed and lower the price. Even for professionals the price of both programs are ridiculous
rip my ears 💀 wonder if the popping noise was a render error?
Very cool video
You made it look so simple Luke, well done.
Great video! I’ve been using LumaFusion on iPad Pro for many years and overall been happy with it. Before that I used Sony Vegas since around 2000 and was happy to move away after it was sold to another company. Luma also has some shortcomings, but I’ve found it to be more enjoyable to edit on the iPad than a laptop or desktop. I guess it all depends on how your workflow “flows”. The lack of external drives on FCP is a real deal killer for me and I’ll work around it while learning the software. I hope Apple resolves this quickly. Thanks again for the excellent overview!
Great job Luke, exactly what I was looking for in a review.
Well done! Seemed like you gave it a fair shot! I liked your reverse shots where your background was from the back and had your camera in it. Nice change of pace especially for a video editor review!
Weird audio glitches going on
I can’t agree with you more. I’ve been saying this for a while now. Love that you agree.
Here when it’s only 360 p 😎
Love the Video❤️
Nice review
Amazing ❤
Very interesting and welcome introduction, the 11.03 point has an audio glitch so it shows this app does need little tweaks yet
Lumafusion gets my vote.
Works beautifully on my iPad Air 4, can edit on external drive, can even use NAS as an external drive.
When you said about taking it into the field whilst drone shooting, my ears popped up… summer is here and it’ll make uploading videos quickly on go will be a massive boon to many like myself
Great videos. The core issue is storage, or external drive support. Professional Video requires a huge amount of storage. 1 or 2 TB on the iPad does not cut it! Especially if you are using other Apps taking up storage.
The scroll wheel on the right of the timeline is the win for sure. I'm actually surprised seeing it in action nobody else in NLE tab space thought of it before. (AFAIK). Thanks for the demo/review!
mainly cause physical shuttle accessories exist and touchscreens are seldom used on super color accurate displays, and trying to spin a dial with a mouse is super difficult
Once again this channel is by far superior to most Fruit company channels. You give us an honest opinion and you take time to develop your thoughts without being a sellout to the Fruit company ecosystem. While I still wonder why the Fruit company doesn't build touch screen laptops, I think the Fruit pad and Final Cut would be useful for someone who wants to have something not as bulky as a Fruit Air laptop to take with them to an on-site production; what would be interesting is to see how taking this mobile approach to do beginning edits works when exporting to a faster and more capable computer. It would seem that being able to do starting edits on a very mobile platform and then finishing the project on a real computer would be a great use of time. On location often has down time that is not usually well exploited. I guess you could use a Fruit Air laptop to do this, but in this generation of users who complain when they have to carry an ounce more in weight, the Fruit pad could be a wonderful device for Fruit snowflakes. Good point on no-external device support. Considering the Fruit pad never was supposed to be a serious product other than to CONSUME media, if there is enough squawk from the Fruit Flies, I am sure the Fruit company will cave in and offer that. I'll admit having a pad is lost on me as far as portability. I have a very nice and thin real computer laptop that can fold into a tablet and that works if I need to travel. Pads to me end up as stationary items of little pragmatic value other than to be timers or clocks with alarms. The expense of a Fruit pad would have me opting to pay a bit more for something of real usage upside.
Nice video, I love ipads and the magic keyboard is so cool.
Subbed
Would have liked to see you use it with your external displays
Resolve is free without a subscription, which would break the deal for me personally.
Interning, I would love to see how it compares to Lumafusion.
I wonder if they’ll bring Xcode or others to iPad come wwdc
Could you connect the iPad to one of those displays?
I couldn't find it in the Australian app store this morning
Hi, what happens if you connect the iPad to an external display to use FinalCut Pro? And, does it work in Central Stage?
I'm really curious how this would look with stage manager enabled on an external monitor.
Put it on my watch and I'll be impressed.
As soon as the video started, the right audio channel clipped so loudly that the speaker doesn't work anymore. Thanks, luke.
Where are the HD and 4K options?
The problem with subscription is when you add it to all those OTHER subscriptions you have... Especially when the big competition (Davinci Resolve) is free.... (and comes with external drive support and is compatible with the desktop version, etc)
Gotta wait for the HD version to be proccessed. but 360p is my fav resolution XD
Great video! So, no editing directly from external SSD?
Can you not swipe down on the clip to blade / slice it ?
Thanks for the review, do you think this will still work okay on my ipad pro 11 inch M1 I know your 12.9 inch has a better brighter screen than my one, also can I work off of an m.2 ssd like with the desktop version ? and do you think Apple will move the Mac version to monthly or annual fee and will Apple start to update the Mac version like Tim suggested a while back that they would ?
This will be another add on to Apple one
I hope they give the option of having the desktop version as subscription model.
Bro nice wallpaper on the iMac 😎
Is there a way to unlink audio and video
The swipe-down gesture doesn't split the clip? Shame there's no iCloud Pro video library feature - a real miss there.
What did you do here that couldn't have been done in iMovie?
What is that sudden white popping noise right when the video starts that also continues in the video?
I hope that iMovie for iPad will get an update that will resemble FCP. If only just the jog wheel operation.
Hi please could you please try to fit M1 MacBook Air into MacBook Pro late 2013 model and use its display ??
I'd had my hopes up but i have an iPad Air 4th gen and it's not compatible i still have to use my Mac mini at home
FCP and Logic for iPad both seem to have some strange and arbitrary restrictions at the moment (e.g., no external drive support or comprehensive color tools for FCP and no third-party plug-in support for Logic) but may be nice for creators who have been settling for iMovie and GarageBand when on the move. A more reasonable level of feature parity could finally justify an iPad Pro for me.
Because they don't want to sell it as a stand alone app for the iPad. They want you to create a project on the iPad and later develop the project on the desktop app. They want to sell you both.
There’s definitely third party plug-in support in Logic. They’re called Audio Units (AUV3) and there’s a whole slew of them available from major developers like Fabfilter, Eventide, Moog and more. I have well over 100 of them installed on my iPad Pro. Hopefully more come along down the line as well
This looks cool, however, why won’t they do a monthly payment for the desktop version?!
Why didn’t you connect your monitor?
Hi is it possible to put M1 MacBook Air internals into late 2013 MacBook Pro retina and is its display ? That would be very cheep awesome MacBook I guess and off can utilise all the ports wow
So my biggest issue with this is people have said you can not edit using an external ssd for your storage and to render your finished project. That to me is essential on an iPad with limited space. I dont want to continually bump up against storage limits. This is a big fail to me. I also do not like the fact its a subscription model especially as I do own the desktop version. If they did change it to allow editing using external storage i would probably give it a trial. For now I will stick to Luma Fusion if I have to edit on an iPad. It does allow remote storage.
Does anyone know why it won't let me install final cut on my 3rd gen iPad pro? It meets the requirements (A12 and 3rd gen pro are the minimum requirments) yet it says its incompatible?
That extra play
I love the jogwheel. I hope Lumafusion gets it! 😅
The subscription aspect of FCP and Logic for the iPad have made them both non-starters (are you listening, Apple?) for me as I was considering an iPad with Logic for music creation. I have already removed many subscription-only apps from my iPhone, I know it's the current paradigm, but frankly, I'm tired of being nickeled and dimed to death from every other app installed on my devices. Good video just the same, Luke.
I think external storage support will be added soon
Really great to see first hand reaction on the ipad Final Cut Pro software and i have to say i love the videos you post but i think you are a bit to harsh on the implications of Final Cut Pro on iPad as what i see as a real non pro user this software looks very intuitive and very easy to be introduced in the video editing world. I have used several programs for editing videos and like i said as a personal non pro user that does max 1 to 2 videos in 3 to 6 months, i would have been ecstatic for a video editor like this (no big payment upfront, easy learning curve and especially the intuitive gestures) then combined with a pencil and keyboard i can only imagine for a starting editor this would be one of the best softwares to start on.
Hope to see a follow up in the perspective of a starting video editor or a long time review as this video in my eyes seems a bit too short sighted and more a reaction to a long time user that isn’t happy with the refreshed software while it isn’t a refresh but a new program like say a intro version of sort what i mean with this is, is like you stated in the end of your video this version is more directed to people that don’t edit videos professionally and in my eyes this means the people that will buy this are those that have use for it once or twice a year and additionally content creators like you that are traveling will use this as a quick way to edit and post their content instead of using several devices.
Like i said happy with the first impression video but i hope that you make a long time review or a other perspective view (like you often do in your videos ,a pro user and normal user perspective ) as this seems a bit to short sighted and more a personal preference view of the software.
Can’t import music from iTunes like the desktop version
FinalCut on MacPro is the best.
Oh damn that sound at 0:00 😩
No 'voice over' recording? can't find it anywhere
For me personally, an iPad Pro doesn't make any sense. The iPad Pro with M2, 1TB, 16RAM and Magic Keyboard costs $2,148. A Macbook Air with the same specs, M2, 16RAM but 512GB internal memory costs $1,699. The advantage of the Macbook Air is that you have the desktop version of Final Cut Pro, you can edit directly from an external SSD, you have more ports, it's just as practical and comfortable to carry in a backpack as an iPad Pro... The advantage of An iPad Pro would be that you can record your videos with it, although it doesn't seem practical to me, it's more practical to do it with the iPhone.
11:02 audio 🤣 Surround sound Luke 😎
I can use this to edit fashion shows while sitting in the camera pit. Can't bring a laptop in tight areas
"Close Enough Pro". Did you use it for this vid? Cause there were some pops and then layered talking in at least one place, but all adjacent to in/out points.
THAT POPPING NOISE THO 🤨😳
Seriously now! No external drive support? I’ll stick to LumaFusion when I need to quick edit on an iPad not enough to sway me off of my Mac mini
I'll stick to the desktop version, thanks.
So Apple says the that the 3rd generation IPad can run Final Cut but I updated to 16.4 and I still can’t download. I guess I’ll keep using luma unless someone knows why I can’t download Final Cut for 2018 iPad when the App Store said the 3rd gen IPad Pro is compatible apparently
The new Logic isn’t ready. The interface is very different than Mac Logic. It doesn’t show the full plugin of auv3 plugin, I deleted it. A pity I like Logic on a Mac.
Did you edit this video on an iPad?
I'm experiencing some glitches in this video that isn't usual in your material.
I'm mostly into sound, so I noticed the noise bursts at 0:00, 0:26 and 0:53 and the ecco at 11:02.
Did you secretly edit this video as you showed us in the video?
What audio glitch thing happened at 11:02???
360p only? I'm gonna wait a bit
thx for the try personaly I don't care to have fcp on the iPad it has no use to me. I'm a computer guy with "30-inch screen
Great follow up - you very much proved how far this ship has sailed from our initial pipe dreams of having a mobile editor. At the end of the day - do you really WANT a mobile editor?? Now - you also pointed out the VERY REAL PROBLEM - there really is NO USE CASE for anyone with this - you cant even point to young people who might not even have money for a Mac and FCP - since a Mac mini M1 and FCP would cheaper then just the hardware needed for this mobile app - an m1 iPad....THE SECOND a person uses this for more than 1 project they will be SCREAMING for the full version of FCP and the irony is - they could have just gotten that instead of an iPad and this for cheaper. We haven't mentioned third party plugins - I fail to see a use a for this.
Thanks for sharing, that subscription model is a nope for me
This version of final cut, could have been used on older IPads. Im disapointed that it wasnt, If Resolve & Lumafusion could, final cut could have to!!
Is it just me or is there audio peaking /popping in this video?
Why is there clicks or like glitch sound in the beginning
bro the popping sounds in ur edits scared tf out of me. i thought my speakers on my mac done blew
I hear the tick sound at the beginning of the video 0:00
As someone hit very hard by cost of living here in uk right £5 a month is completely unaffordable.
Having the option of using Davinci Resolve…. this is a big NO from me. Have you seen the render time diferences? Insane performance by DR agains FC. No to mention grading tools, tracking, masks, and much much more
No external support is a massive downside. Also not being able to freely bring your project back and forth between the mac and iPad. I switched to davinci since it offers both and was hoping Final Cut would switch me back (I hate davincis file management). Maybe Final Cut will in a future update. I remember when Final Cut Pro x came out it was so barebones. Hardly any features from Final Cut 7 were there. I love what Final Cut x turned into. iPad version looks okay but I imagine there will be improvements.
Dang I'm pretty early on this one!
First! There is some audio noise at the beginning tho
It seems to have a lot of potential, idc about subscriptions if it works for me but the lack of support for external drives is a big issue, basically it turns the app useless for me and I'm sure for many professionals too. Unfortunately I don't expect it to change any time soon as it would require mayor changes on the Files app and overall how the iPad manages files, I've seen other apps have limitations like these too so it all points to iPadOS. I guess it's Apple again reminding us why iPad will never be a proper computer, never mind a professional tool.
Was this vid done in iPads FC? Cause smh many hiccups...
Looks like I‘m staying with LumaFusion since this one worked pretty good for some drone footage when travelling and it was an onetime payment
Will this Final Cut for iPad be a possible window to the future in which we will have Macbooks with touch screens? 🤯🤯🤯🤯
Hi
