    Organizing doesn't create space.... but it does make a space more efficient so I think you should regularly reevaluate what is close at hand. My tips:
    - Function before aesthetics. I'll take an ugly container that fits my things over a pretty one that takes up extra space any day.
    - Store things together that you use together, even if it means having some things like scissors and tape in more than one spot.
    - Separate seasonal items and swap them out. There's no sense in them taking up prime real estate all year.
    - Plan an area close to where you work to keep cleaning supplies at hand. A lot of people forget this.
    - Keep a swatchbook, or multiple swatchbooks. Then you can quickly pick a product and a color without having to pull things out.
    - Keep any excess die cuts with the die, so you can see them the next time you go to use that die and can save yourself from dragging everything out to cut another one. For me this is more efficient than keeping the extra cuts in an album.
    - Don't over-organize. Sometimes the packaging a thing came in is already an efficient way to store it - like bead hanks and anything in a ziptop bag.

    I had all kinds of diecuts laying around so yesterday I was looking after my grandson and his little friend so I pulled them all out and some old stickers. Put them all out on the middle of my table and gave them paper. They made some very creative pics with all the diecuts and stickers. They are 8 by the way.

My friends are coming to visit and the first thing they say to me is "No, I haven't got the space for any more stash" I'm slowly managing to give stuff away, church, disabled people, retirement homes and so on. Hi there (from England) just a word of warning with the binder storage, I have found in the past that if you leave them stuck in too long they rip.
    The reason I know this is because I used mine for photographs. When trying to remove one after a long period it stuck to the back and ripped the photograph. Thankyou for the video, most informative.

    • @CraftyConceptswithErin
      @CraftyConceptswithErin  Před 4 měsíci +3

      Thank you for the warning, it is certainly a possibility. The older sticky photo sheets caused the same issue with older photos from my childhood, these don’t seem nearly as sticky. I will have to do an update in a year.

    I've added some "s" hooks to my trollies and I now hang up a lot of items on those e.g. pen and marker sets, packets of stickers and fussy cuts etc. I use the bag they came in but strengthen the bits that woud tear from use with cellotape, plus the hole at the top if it is only cellophane. I'm finding I use them more often and I'm careful to put them all back when finished (adnormal for me!!!). Plus remember, you don't need every colour of every item. You are never going to use 100 stamp pads etc! Ask yourself, "when did I last use this" and be tough on yourself. Don't shift piles, like I do, LOL.

    Organizing is an ongoing endeavor as new tools come in or new products from our very creative companies.
    I use note books for storing stencils and love it. Then I made a huge decision to separate all my word stamps from the stamp sets into a huge binder listing categories. This has saved me multitudes of headaches never remembering what set they were in. I did label all my clear stamps pockets with the company they were from but rarely use that info as I am not a designer or have videos. I rethink my artroom about twice a year. Last year I rounded up 6 big boxes of stuff and gave it to a distant cousin who loves stamping. (There is literally no one in our large family who is arty or stamps. ) I too use the refrigerator bins for literally all of my stamps and will never change that as they work perfectly. The biggest dilemma is what to do with the scrap paper after a project. I keep black and white scraps in a bin together. Colored small pieces are in a bin and solid larger pieces I put back with the same colored cardstock. Works for me. Well that’s the basics here. Thanks for your suggestions and ideas. We all will grab one at some point!

    • @CraftyConceptswithErin
      @CraftyConceptswithErin  Před měsícem

      I agree, organizing is ever evolving on ongoing. It is nice to have found a home for your stamp sets you were ready to give away with your cousin. It makes it a little easier knowing they will be enjoyed.

    When my Cricut mats are just about done, I try to wash them to bring back a little sticky. I cut them into 4 pcs, same with the plastic clear cover and I add my left-over paper embellishments onto these, cover with the clear sheet and place in a bin. I can then flip through them for items.,

    My biggest challenge with organization is not allowing myself to proceed to other tasks until I've completed the current one. For instance, I discovered a paper sorter at a thrift store that was ideal for my paper crafting supplies. However, I quickly ran out of slots, as I had 17 distinct colors, each requiring its own slot. Consequently, I purchased two more paper sorters from Amazon to accommodate my needs. Meanwhile, I neglected other tasks that required attention, such as tidying or reorganizing items into my new office, leaving that one task unfinished.

    I keep a couple of junk journals on my desk and any scraps or die cuts I don’t use I will keep and arrange them on the pages of the junk journal. I don’t do one page at a time I just randomly pick pages that are blank and then as I add more a theme may arise on each page that I then kind of go with.

    I have just decided to repurpose an old shoe box as a holding box, for items that I am either sort of busy with or for whatever reason I don't or can't put away right away ... otherwise my space turns into a mess. With the holding box, I can put all my loose bits and pieces in there and do a packaway once a week or so, or I can dip into the box if it is a project I am partway through and I don't want to put it all away properly

    I love these ideas, I always learn something new even though I've been scrapping a long time. I just started collecting dies, they're something I've never used before. While I like the idea of keeping the extras in a binder, I know I'd never keep up with it. I really like your original idea of keeping the extras in the actual die envelope. I know me pretty well at this point! 😉

      I am so glad you are learning from the videos. Yes it is so good to be honest with ourselves and know what we will actually stick with. I try to use it all up but there is always a few items left over.

    Such timely advice! My friend and I both are getting ready to organize our craft rooms. I cringed when you mentioned bins with no lids. I have organized other rooms like this and I get so grossed out when I reach into a container to get something and I come out with not only the object but lots of dust and cat hair. I have an old house and it gets dirty quickly even though we run an air purifier most of the time. With your tips in hand, once everything is organized, it will be much easier to clean. But I will be taking advantage of storage with lids 😉 I hope others with similar issues read this before planning their storage solutions. I would be curious to know if others have tips to prevent or deal with dust and pet hair.

    • @christienelson1437
      @christienelson1437 Před 4 měsíci +2

      I agree wiping off lids is easier and leaves your materials clean to work with. Many craft items can’t be washed before working with them and can’t be used covered in dust and debris. Labeling your bins and using clear containers is the best way to go. Having a place for everything that is practical and be put away and replaced. I would start with organizing items into cheap shipping boxes by hobby. Sewing items, scrap booking, painting crafts, resin crafts… Then one box at a time organize the items. Start with your most important hobbies then work to the rest. If it’s a hobby you rarely do maybe swap materials with a fellow hobby friend or donate items. She has a lot of good ideas but not everything will fit each person’s needs or work room. Trail and error and you may have to make your craft containers or buy from thrift stores.

Can they be stored in the sticky album pages that you showed for the ephemera? I would think they would just peel off but wanted to make sure. My sticker embellishment storage is not working. I made my own so I could have specific dimensions that i needed for my space. I used magnetic vent covers and very sticky score tape(6" wide roll bcz I already have that on hand and it's very sticky) and I cut a 1/4 inch thick project board down to the size I needed. I adhered the magnetic vent covers to my board and then added a 3/4" wood frame around the outside to finish it off. My 2nd board I recently made was 15"x48" made the same way. It was a bit of work but I liked that I could make the sizes I needed for the space I wanted to have them in. They work like a charm. My 1st one I've had up for 2 years with no issues and it holds my nesting squares and rectangle and nesting stitched squares and rectangles. The 2nd one I made holds my nesting and stitched nesting circles and ovals. I had an 8x10 inch piece of that 1/4" wood left over so I covered both sides of that and pin nailed it between 2 pieces of that 3/4" trim so it would stand upright and that can be moved from my die cutting area to my desk to hold any smaller dies that I might be working with (when using my tiny die cutting machine at my desk) for a particular project(any dies that don't belong on my magnetic boards). It's been working great and I don't lose any small dies on my desk!

    I would love to see a video on how to use my old stamp sets that have specific images to use with a Cricut. How can I now use them with Design Space?

      You can link the physical cartridges to design space. The coordinating stamp sets show the size you want to cut the corresponding shape for the stamped image. There are lots of tutorials on CZcams, this one might be helpful czcams.com/video/N8Qm5ahg75w/video.htmlsi=4ECZfyJmpbbcXld1
      Hopefully that is what you were looking for.

    Erin, thank you for the binder idea. I have a cricut expression. My biggest issue is that for example, if I want to cut out a dog, I have to look thru all my booklets to see what cartridges have dogs. Do you know of an app that has all the images in categories? I have done some research but haven’t found anything that was helpful.

      That was my biggest complaint with the Cricut cartridges also. I have heard of others making an excel spread sheet where you type in dog, cat or plant (whatever the image may be) and then add what cartridge it is from. That way you can search the document by keyword. It would take a very long time to enter all the images but save a ton of time in the long run.

      Thank you Erin, years ago at a retreat, there was a gal who had a binder list with a list of all the images in categories but have know idea who she was, lol. Starting my own spread sheet would take me forever to do

    It is indeed frustrating trying to organize. Every time I start tearing everything out to declutter and sorting by category it seems we have unexpected company which results in me throwing everything back so the spare room can get ready. 😩 I am at the point of telling our guests that they will just have to deal with my mess or not come until I am done. - Lynn

      There is a spot in our house that becomes the emergency dumping ground so I totally get it. I say embrace the mess and let them see it, maybe they will be inspired to tackle their clutter too because we all have it.

    How do you get the cuts out of the pages without ripping. I remember trying to get pictures out and some would rip

      Back in the day we had photos get stuck also but these newer versions are archival safe unlike the old style. I think it’s definitely possible for die cuts to get stuck if left for years and years but so far they come right up with zero issue. My friend has been using this system for close to a year and has no trouble either.

    what are you using for your ink pad storage?

      Hello, for my CTMH ink pads I use their workspace wonder stamp pad stack. I really like them because you can configure them in so many different ways to fit your space. You can keep stacking up or go side ways. erinjacobson.closetomyheart.com/Retail/Product.aspx?ItemID=9435&ci=6767

    Where can one find that large STRONG magnet board? I am in Canada

      I created my magnet board with adhesive backed 8x10 sheets and adhered them to a thin sheet of galvanized sheet metal. My friend did the same but attached the magnets to an old dry erase board. These are the magnets I bought and they are very strong - Magnet Valley 5 Magnetic Sheets of 8" x 10" Adhesive 60 mil Magnet Ultra Thick

    I just found your video and have many issues, but re the Emphemera Binder is there a problem removing the piece from the sticky sheet?

    • @CraftyConceptswithErin
      @CraftyConceptswithErin  Před 3 měsíci

      Hello Teri, that is a good question and many share the same concern likely due to the terrible sticky photo sheets from long ago. So far I have had zero issues lifting the die cut pieces and the binder system is helping me to utilize my stash. A crafty friend has been using her set up for close to a year and hasn't run into anything issues either.

    I was wondering if you had any other ideas for cutout storage. I ripped my photo albums apart and used the plastic for other projects (ok.ok. i haven't used them yet...😂) and used the cardboard for some other crafts/junk journals. Those albums are horrible and should never be used for photos. Not only are the photos there forever and cannot be removed without ruining them, they are not acid-free. So, i wondered also if they would affect the die cuts because the paper we usually use is acid-free. Thoughts?

    • @CraftyConceptswithErin
      @CraftyConceptswithErin  Před 4 měsíci

      I agree, the old versions of these were terrible. I can remember helping my mom try to salvage photos and we were not successful with all of them. These newer options are archival safe. My friend has been using hers for a lot longer with no issues. My goal is to use up the embellishments in a timely manner so hopefully they will never have the opportunity to become stuck. Maybe if the paper was extremely thin but I’m optimistic I won’t have any issues. At first I was concerned they would not be sticky enough.

      @CraftyConceptswithErin OH! Who knew that there was an acid-free version?! Lol, not Me! But yes, I totally agree that the idea is making them visible and therefore better able to see and use them in a timely fashion! I will search around and see if I can find them Because it IS a great idea!
