Blue Cat, perhaps you don't know the issue here. Government policy is all civil servants have to declare all gifts they received at the end of each year. They also have to declare that they are not financially embarrassed, that is, have no outstanding unsecured debts. It is ok to receive gifts bùt they must declare them. For small gifts with nominal value normally they are allowed to keep them. For higher value items they must be surrendered and be sold through auction, the proceeds going to charity. So, for the charges of receiving gifts without declaring them which is a minor transfression Iswaran probably would be acquitted. This is because several decades ago LKY and LHL also received gifts from the same OBS in the form of special discount on their purchase of Nassim Jade condo and the government said there was nothing wrong. They also didn't declare this special discount. And that value of discount LKY donated to charity.
A lot of ambiguities. Iswaran has a chance to redeem himself in court.

Surely Iswaran would be found not guilty on those charges involving gifts received. Because LKY and LHL also received gifts from OBS in the form of special discounts for Nassim Jade condo 3 decades ago and government said nothing wrong. So how can Iswaran be guilty of receiving those gifts? He didn't declare them and neither did LKY and LHL when they received the special discount.

I google this LKY and LHL's case and found that same businessman Ong Beng Seng. Wow. I am too young and should ask old generations more. LOL
Not government, it is court and if I remember correctly LKY claimed ignorant, that they do not know there is a discount. He was grilled and later grilled in parliament also. That's why they covered up the loophole in 2005 on that code of conduct.
@@OnMusicSoon1 LKY was not charged so there was no trial and no court action. Dr Tony Tan, the DPM at that time said there was nothing wrong and the whole thing was wrapped up no further action. LKY said he would donate the value of the discount to charity. People must understand there is a government policy that every civil servant, especially from officer level and above, must make yearly declaration on gifts received during the year and also must declare that they are not financially embarrassed, i.e. no outstanding unsecured debt. If the value of the gifts is small they usually keep them. And if the value is substantial they must be surrendered and these would be auctioned off from participating civil servants interested in buying them, the proceeds of which would go to charity.
Long ago, when LKY and LHL bought real estates from OBS at a huge discount , wasn't that the same as the exminister? Double standard is it? Only the Lee can, the rest cannot.

Probably because one cannot prosecute under prevention of corruption act without permission from the Public Prosecutor, and even with permission it will probably be difficult to obtain relavant evidence, and even with such evidence prosecution will be extremely expensive @@KevanMajere33

Who is going to win the case is a very touchy result. what if israwan win and the government lost the case, how it is going to impact the government moving forward? If the government win, how it is going to impact those still holding such positions and the future entry of such officials?. Headache.
