  • In todays video I give a few in depth reasons on why I LIKE and DISLIKE my 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8 Track Edition. I go over some of the key things that will make or break this car. I made this video to give my honest opinion an help people who are thinking about getting a Genesis Coupe.

    I have owned 3 Genesis Coupes 3.8 and I wrapped the door pulls with carbon fiber and covered the auto shifter with a leather cover. The aftermarket hoods allow water to enter the engine compartment and I'm not a fan of that. The factory tail lights leak water and replaced them with Spec D and sealed them with permatex. The cars are rare unless you live in Texas, Florida or California where most are sold. These are pretty good cars if you can find them used and unmodified at a good price.

    I have 2015 3.8 auto. 76,000 miles. Completely stock daily driver. The only issue with the car so far is the chrome chipping off the gear shift knob. Traction control has never overridden while driving. Iphone connected fine, no leaky tail lights and average 27 to 27.5 mpg splitting between city and highway (I admit I am very light footed on the gas pedal). The car gets well over 30 miles a gallon on the highway. Overall, I can't think of anything I would change on the car. Plenty of power and the stock exhaust sounds really good to me. The car has been great.

    2016 ultimate here, I can play both Android and iPhone via Bluetooth on mine. I agree about the interior but like others, it can be wrapped as an easy fix. Seat bolsters are fairly cheap too. Mine started wrinkling after minimal use on the drivers side. No maintenance required light either but as long as you stay on top of that it shouldn’t be a problem. Tail lights/headlights do gather some condensation/dirt but living in CA it goes away fairly quickly.

    From my experience, (2015 Rspec)these are the weak points, the shifter needs replacing, the Crome is horrible, just wrap it in carbon fiber wrap.
    I also changed air filter to K&N, then I changed the tire width, 245/ 265, huge difference. Also did a muffler delete, the engine screams at high rpm🤪. Lastly the 3.8 engine is very reliable, but I change the oil every 3k, Mobil 1, this motor is still in use in the later model Hyundai Palisades.
    I now have 80k and never had any problems👍

    The new 2023 Nissan Fairlady Z coming is worth it. I have a stock 2016 Genesis Coupe 3.8 automatic. I am at 71,000 miles. Based on all the research I did in 2020 and 2021 when all the quarantine started, the best options for the car are a built 2.0 engine by Travis at MT Motorsports, or have it LS swapped. The best Genesis Coupe 3.8 have been proven to reach above 600whp (wheel power). However, that is with a fully built 4.0L or 4.2L, which is extremely expensive based on what I have been told. The best 2.0 versions have reached 700whp, such as Brian Paul's car, and 850whp with nitrous, which is what BTR Racing did. I have not had any major issues with my car. I am keeping it stock for now. I hear tons of issues with turbo Genesis Coupe, and I also have no clue how people continue to blow them up and crash them.
    I am working at a game company now and saving to get my own place someday. Now I am wondering if investing in the new Z is a better car option than the Genesis Coupe. I mean, I already know it is, and that car is going to have tons of modifications available. I anticipate those cars reaching 500 to 700whp easily, and much higher with built engines.

      yeah i’ve talked with travis about putting a turbo on mine. and people wreck them and blow them because they abuse them lol. seen it happen a few times. however i’m thinking of maybe getting a 2022 brz/86 or switching over to american muscle not sure yet

      @@zachcook16 If you go muscle, get a Corvette. Unless you can afford a Dodge Viper. Please no challenger or charge. No kitty cats. Or get a GR 86 and have it engine swapped. I could never get an accurate estimate from Travis. I talked to him once on FB, but he said to call. I can call, but it's not like I have the expenses to do anything immediately. One guy on youtube told me in the comments the customer's 511whp 3.8 engine was $8,000. And Justin in Hawaii with the blue twin turbo Genesis Coupe costed him $20,000 to have it built to 4.0 or 4.2. He told me that on FB when I asked. And that was also from Travis. I like the car, but I don't know what to do with it in the future. It LOOKS cool, and I even get complements with it being stock. The problem is the lack of horsepower and performance. 348hp is the fastest car I have been in though.

I told him how much horsepower and it's not that fast. He said, "That's a sweet ass car," or something like that. His wife and kids were all in the car. Full family in a camaro hahah. I can't do that. I shall remain single. He was really interested in the car. I don't think he knew what it was. There was another time at a stoplight, and this guy asked me what year the car was, and I told him 2016. I am not sure he knew what the car was. That is what I like about it. It looks amazing each time I walk back to it after jogging at the park or coming from the grocery store. I just hate how slow and weak then engine is compared to all these insane cars now. Basic tunes and fuel are getting new cars to 500whp, which is my horsepower goal for the car someday, IF I decided to keep it. And thanks for letting me know what Travis said. So $8,000 plus the $3,000 to $4,000 (with guages) turbo kit from Remnant Performance? Does a new engine get shipped to you or a shop, or would you have to ship your motor to Travis to have it built? Interior: that's just bad care, I read a lot of people having that, but for real, it's just you not knowing how to take care of surfaces, mine still like day one. Radio: it's not true you can't play music from your phone, it works perfectly, again, if you do not know how things work, do not talk. Traction control: yes it is too much intrusive but it's not true the fact it comes back if you fully disable it, again, learn. Transmission: yes I do agree, while the hardware is solid and good, they lacked mostly on tuning it, specially in sport mode, it's too much conservative specially in downshifts. When it hangs too much it's time to change oil and filter of the tran. Engine: yes, totally love the 3.8 but please, get rid of that hot air intake, you are just losing power. Yes, overall it's a great GT car, wish they revive it under the N department, it would be a killer.

    • @zachcook16
      @zachcook16  Před 2 lety

      well you can’t deny the fact the interior is just cheap. i’m sure if you take great care of the car from the time it was manufactured to now it would be perfect. but the real fact is that most people don’t have that much time to care about always making sure it’s in mint condition. i didn’t buy this car new so it didn’t have the chance to be perfectly cared for it’s whole life. and yes the radio does work with a phone i messed that up. but with the traction control and transmission those are just problems of the car not being tuned to it’s best potential. my coupe has had all of its maintenance done on time and with the highest quality products i can get but it still has problems with it. overall great car and would recommend it for a beginner enthusiast and i agree it would be a killer under the ‘N’ line
