Despite all the hype that surrounded him, he hasn't had the world of attention that he once had. It's as if he's almost been forgotten entirely.
But where did Julian Newman go wrong? Did he mess up in his personal life? Why did he not live up to the expectations and promises made about him? These are the things that come to mind when we think about why he's not as popular as he used to be.
Rest assured, I have the answer to that question and it is bound to surprise you. Stay until the end to see me roast the shit out of Julian Newman.

Bro has been in highschool for like 20 years
😭but Fr
No he hasn’t bro 😐
@@devinalston4754 it's a joke for how short he is...
This dude is entering highschool for 13th year in a row 😂
They say to this day he’s at the age of 21 still yet again a HS senior
All that n he barely cracked the records smh
he's not bad, he just never grew and evolved his game.
And too cocky and arrogant.
He also never grew up that's why. 😂
Agreed
@@massacretv4988agreed
I feel like even if he has 6'5 he still wouldnt make the NBA
I saw bro play at a high school showcase his senior year. Hes actually good. The issue is his height, and the fact he never learned how to play with 4 other dudes on the court. Every time he got the ball he ducked his head and tried to play Hero ball.
He cannot move without the ball.
When his teammates had the ball he would spread out he’d follow them around so they’d have to pass it back to him.
He just never learned how to play with fundamentals.
But. He’s got serious skills.
I agree with everything you said!
Thanks for the comment
Sounds like he doesn't though lmao like doing the same dribble move over and over and throws the ball with his whole body to as a shot form... he's dogshit
Well basketball is a team sport… If he’s playing hero ball every time how is he good? If he lacks the fundamentals how is he good?
..So he's *not* actually good. You said yourself he never learned fundamentals. If someone doesn't even have fundamentals down, then by definition, they are not good. Basketball is a team sport; being able to dribble really fast doesn't mean you're a good player at the sport. His loss at IMG Academy was more than enough proof that he's actually terrible (look up the game on here). He can go do gymnastics or something
But what is he actually good at? Dribbling 20 times in place as he struggles to get by his defender? I've yet to see him beat his man 1 on 1 against actually good defenders, usually just winds up chucking up an airball. Yes his height is a problem, but there are short players with 100x the skill level as him.
Why do people still make video essays about Julian Newman? this dude's been played out for the past 5 years. There's nothing new to learn about him.
Stop watching
Chill
Just don’t watch the video then lol
Why not just move on with your life instead of making a comment like this? If you wonder then just keep that question for yourself, nobody would answer your question because everyone is still questioning the same thing.
I mean he’s the perfect scapegoat on why fans are bellyaching and there’s no new phenom there to excite them again. And what I mean in terms of why, for one, how a basketball player on scholarship is in school like it has absolutely nothing to do with education. Isn’t that a good enough reason to have fans rolling their eyes? And Duke is becoming a joke as a reputable elite academic institution when they are basically wearing a sign that they don’t care about basketball recruits if when it comes to meeting their picky application acceptance standards. People will begin to lose faith in the prestige of how actually smart the rest of the student population is if they are taking in the sort that aren’t even on the level of a 4th grader. Ok, that’s not nice how it sounds, but it’s a swept under the rug oversight that people are just uncomfortable or not informed enough to be brave enough to talk about.
His height is not the issue. Aquille Carr is around his height and played college ball and overseas league. Julianne has great ball handling skills but doesn’t apply to create space and pass his defender. He relies too much on shooting 3’s which he is mediocre.
agreed!
Aquile Carr is athletic and explosive as hell. puts Newman to shame. Even Crimestopper is having trouble with a roster spot. Newmans problem is his playstyle, his height, length, and athleticism.
@@BeyondtheBounceYThis father is an issue as well. He used his son’s early age fame to build a brand that did nothing but get in the way of both his children’s ability to play and continuously improve. Its horrible.
You also forgot to say he was a ballhog in which many big name teams dont want.
Aquille wasn't lying about being 5'6", Julian definitely is lol. But that's still not an excuse because there's a D1 guy out there who's actually shorter than Julian. Darnell Rodgers.
when you don't have the physical trends, like lengthy, reach and all that, it really limits to what you can do at the next level.
thats why i love football more, i mean messi bro......
That's why when people football or baseball is harder I always get pissed
Like even to get a chance of playing in a highschool league you have to be in the top 0.001% genetic wise in basketball
And out of them only 0.0001% make it to the NBA
@@theguywhoasked2957 that doesnt mean basketball is harder it means its more luck based
@@Dalauan_Sparrow it's harder because your opponents are all genetically gifted and among the greatest human in terms of height and athleticism
Which makes it very hard to play
He's 5 foot 2. He didn't even have a chance playing high school prep leagues
HES NOT 5’7 !!!!!!!! 100% LIE!!!!
That's 5'2 and not 5'7
I remember I saw him once out in Orlando no way in hell he's 5ft 7 I'm 5ft 9 and he was waaay shorter
If he's 5'7, then im' 6'4
Hahaha he’s like 5-‘1 5-2
It was not his height nor skills. His mindset was just not that trained properly.
Newman is the example of why you should manage expectations and protect your kid from flattery.
Years ago, I used to run a sports store and one of my teenage employees told me that Julian Newman is going to be a superstar in the NBA. I walked him over to the whiteboard and I wrote down Julian Newman- NBA - never.
I don’t work there anymore, but it’s still up there.
Just seen him at the rec community center today in Las Vegas doing drills with his dad like he training for the league still lol . he wouldn’t run in a full court game with us though, had to push him off the court . No bs ..
In 4th grade, my son began playing basketball. Despite being a terrible coach, one thing he said remains true today... Don’t worry about the kid beside you, just put in the effort and work hard. Regardless of the kid’s current skill level, things will change once everyone catches up. I share his perspective. When my son started playing high-level AAU, he showed promise and started occasionally. However, in high school, he excelled and became the top scorer for his school, a record that might still be unbroken today. They’ve been to district four times and come out on top twice.
At State, they came in second. The harmful effects outweigh the benefits when kids are labeled as phenoms. Among all the kids he played with and against, three of them reached the NBA, although they were simply playing basketball.
I wished LeBron took his own advise and let the kid just play.
The fact that you’re still making a vid in 2024 about Julian Newman is crazy
People still wonder about him
Lol 😂 love your narrating, keep it up bro
Dad was always the best father, but not the best basketball teacher.
Bro is not 5’7 lol I heard he like 5’4
He was great at his size and stature. That's it. The thing was he stopped growing when others were experiencing growth spurts. Hence, his speed and physicality were capped out as other defenders are simply longer striders and longer defenders which is harder to be out-dribbled by Newman. Needless to say, pro-level players would outperform him at a better efficiency.
As for his deficiencies, they were not developed due to the fact that he played varsity at too young of an age. By constantly playing against older and bigger guys, he was not afforded the opportunity to learn how to play effective defense as he would always be out-muscled. Passing development would also be hindered as his defenders often towered above him, blocking his vision adding on the woes that Newman was not physically stronger and would have difficulty making long and strong passes. Finishing at the rim is also not feasible for the same reasons, hence not developing it too much. As such, he can only work on the only skillset that would keep him on the varsity court, which is speed and long range shooting.
This is all his father's fault
@Cwavy_2 Being small wasn't the issue, it was his dad and his "celebrity" status that got to his head. He was doomed from the start with his dad using him for $ and notoriety 🤷♂️
He could of gone D2 somewhere if he would of played the correct way as a traditional point guard. He should of created more for his teammates, he definitely can hit the open shot. Definitely daddy’s fault. Parents should never be their kids high school coaches. Pewee league is ok but never their high school coaches.
I don't get it. When you are the father and you are nowhere in the basketball height yourself and you train your kid in basketball??? I know there are some short players in the NBA but if we are being realistic that odd is very low and almost impossible. Newman would done so well had he played another sport like soccer where skills are over physical size.
The ego and overdribbling definitely didn’t help him, but his lack of athleticism and overall size are the biggest factors. You can overcome the first two with the latter two to an extent. You can’t coach size, and you can only increase athleticism so much.
It's call "humble yourself"
If you ever watched the mighty ducks franchise in the 90’s, in the first two movies the ducks were never the most talented team, but they gained notoriety and succeed through gimmicks. However in the third movie where they became teenagers, the gimmicky play that they were known for was no longer effective and they had to learn how to play real hockey.
Julian’s game never evolved past the gimmicky style of basketball ball that got him noticed when he was a kid and the nepotism created by his father made him uncoachable.
It’s crazy he peaked at around 12 years old😂😂😂😂
just two what ifs on newman to be loved and successful
1. If only his dad didnt hype him over the moon
2. if only julian is a humble baller and no ego
I think his issue was that he never grew physically… and his game also never took that next step you know.. he never developed more and I think a big part of that was his dad.. i think he’d be better if he went into like basketball entertainment kind of like professor live type content.
His dad was entirely delusional how are you that short thinking you can get your son in the nba because genetics isn’t just going to bless you with a 6’8 individual when you’re 5’6 smh
"You can't have that kind of tunnel vision when you're small enough to fit through the tunnel itself" BROOOOOOO 😂😂😂
boy's 4'5". we still need to wait till he grow up.
lol.
There’s an ex-nba player who shows up to my local park, and let me tell you there’s no way he was ever making it to the league.
I mean playing against competition like that at 9, 10,11 even if I am put off by his shenanigans, that’s indisputable acclaim of his abilities already. What has me scratching my head is how guarding him was not a daunting task when he was an upperclassman. He only had that crossover to go to and the rest of his came from circumstance of the conditions. Then we saw how with what film we see him rather failing at bada$$ery like if he had hit a baseball home Run and just looked at what he just did as though he’s thinking “Yeah, goddam right I’m good”. But yeah it’s one thing to wish that but another to celebrate that way over some in game stat that was rather not impressive but still counted.
Dyckman basketball game is a good example. Few years ago, a group of Chinese street baller played formal game there. One of the player who scored a lot enter the CBA but he is still struggling now. Therefore, no need to expect too much about Newman as he is not even as good as other Chinese street ballers.
Also, I agree one of the points in the video:dribble. He really dribbles for dribble. He dribbles with no purpose. You can see CP3, Curry, Irving or any guard, they play for fake, pass, crossover within the plan. But Newman really played for nothing.
He is definitely not a 5'7. I'm saying that and I'm 5'4.
I have to thank you for this video. I am 5,8 foot from Australia. Never been to a basketball match. Always wondered what I would look like and now I know. She looks like a little kid and I am only 1 inch taller. Crazy, I knew I would look small but this helped put things into perspective
6:48 bruhhh 💀
Man that IMG game was embarrassing
3:45 I love how you give us the 3K points but was was his shooting avg
Real hoopers know… Newman will get cooked 😂
His height doesn’t help but I honestly think he would be a great facilitator he can’t play defense and his offensive game is limited tho so he’ll only really be there to set people up
Gio Wise vs Newman would be legendary
He had some sort of game but you cant play in the NBA if you cant play D on 6'5 and up players
I was more a fan of Jayshaun Agosto who at least ended up a legit D1 Point Guard that started all 4 years
This is extremely similar to the hoop dungeon video.
Down to the script
Amazing thumbnail
His dad was a coach, then made his teammates as intruments, they're in a wack league so he can have high stats, but still, was not enough
Seven years of Varsity WFT?
Imagine being a senior varsity starter and some four foot tall sixth grader puts up a fade away three on you. 😂
he wasn’t like that
From a national hype story to not even playing division 2 or 3 that’s crazy
He was the first Baby Gronk?
Lil bro stayed 5 feet 🤣😂🤣🤣😂
for his height he was damn good but 5'5" ain't getting you anywhere close to D1 court let alone the NBA
I mean he is fast but his dribble is the same everytime at the end of the day do the same movement to go to the ring , i see why he got blocked so easily on those videos.
42. Canadian . Played in college and he wouldn’t have even make it at that level up here .
He’s got some offense but have no defense whatsoever. He’s really an average player with more highlights than most who’ve come up playing the game. If he’d just work on other aspects of his game and less on the limelight and his attitude, he may have had somewhat of a chance.
You have one kid's dad trying to exploit him (Newman) and another kid's dad actually wanting them to succeed (Ball brothers)
Yeah. Say what you want about Lavar Ball, but he never made his kids look bad, only himself. While Jamie Newman made both himself and his son look bad.
pops knew his kids weren’t going far; it was/is all about the grift
He’s not bad he’s just short. Basketball players nowadays can do whatever he does but a foot taller.
Trash might be too harsh. Dude can ball. Im pretty sure you cant guard this dude on a 1v1. He is just too small and anyone small wouldn’t really thrive in the modern NBA.
People forget hes actually graduated, class of 2020
I feel like he could’ve had a better chance at something at least, if his dad didn’t just let him do whatever the fuck he wanted on the court.
i see him in person he’s 5’5 at the most
He signed for the Puerto Rico National Superior Basketball league (BSN) this year draft no one choose him.
damn he really just stayed normal height
i’ve been playing basketball for 4 years im 5’6” and 16 and even i can touch rim like you’ve been training for that long yet you getting beat in athleticism by a rando
Hope you enjoyed the video, working on a video on why Jason Kidd should get fired at the moment.
Julian "The Random REC" Newman 🤣
I heard Charlotte wants to team Julian up with lamello with a 10 day contract according to Steven A
lol okay. good luck with that!
Literally no one said he'll make it to the nba
Waiting for his sister to make a OF’s
How long have you been waiting?
I used to really think this kid was the best but I now realize that all he doing is ballhawking , shooting highly contested 3 pointers , and doing dribble moves that create no separation at all so he tries to run around his opponents making it seem like he has so much speed but he so small he doesn’t go anywhere
glad u finally woke up
6:25 Julian loves to dribble the air out of the ball. This way the best way to defend him is to stand in front of him.
It’s unfortunate his father went all in on basketball. If he committed all that time and dedication into a sport where size doesn’t matter he could have been a GOAT
He's a 5ft 7 player with a shoot first mentality. Who loses to CZcamsrs.
5'4
Bro came out swinging 😭💀
you really dove deep into this topic, appreciated!
I don’t think he was ever even trying to get to the NBA. At least his father wasn’t. It was always about internet vitality. if he lets go of the ego and take CZcams seriously he has a career.
He wasn't a bad player skill wise, but he has terrible basketball IQ isn't all that great. as you step up each athletic level 60-70% of the people you play with won't advance because the talent levels begin to balance out much quicker.
So if he's completely dominating at middle school at high school you'll be good, at college you'd be average at best, at the pro level your below average.
Idk why it's 2024 and people are still talking about this guy's a grown adult now trying to relive his glory days
When you have talent but you’re short, have a terrible attitude, live like you’re entitled, and don’t improve your skills, you rarely, if ever, make it to the NBA.
The only ones he has to blame are his dad, his attitude, and most importantly, his height
this and the fact that he is definitely not a good coach...other than developing his kid's basic skills, he should've let him go a long time ago to train with a real coach for more advanced skills
Bro the dude is 3 ft tall where tf u expected him to go. The NBA is not the Bozo Super Sunday Show.
He wasn’t “trash” and he’d beat 99% of his critics 1v1. He, alongside millions of teenage hopefuls, wasn’t pro or scholarship material. Happens. Thankfully, he was born in an era where guys who weren’t pro material can still make a living playing basketball with the money guys make on social media.
“He’d beat 99% of his critics 1v1” 🙄
1. Basketball is a TEAM sport and this kid not only was terrible @ fundamental team ball, but was not good enough to dominate in a league with gifted athletes/teams that rank.
2. Dude would not beat any actual ballers in (pick a hood), USA. He’s average at best when matched against the urban rank & file.
He was never a genius. He's the product of a father who doesn't understand how basketball is played and trained his son in some broken form of basketball. All he know how to do is do dribble drills, which I'm sure his father thinks is the height of playmaking. His shot never changed even though its aparent the release is too low and too slow for someone of his size.
Basically, Julian was gassed up and let down by his father. If we all trained the way his father made him train, yeah we would all be high-school "prodigies".
he's still in high school 😂😂
He was never meant for the nba or high end d1 basketball. He'd be a killer Harlem globetrotter tho.
damn title made me laugh
It’s time for him to get that CDL
best example of peaked in High School
5'7 is a stretch. He's 5'6 on a good day.
This kid was never making the NBA even he was 6”6”
This sounds awfully similar to some other videos…
He not even d3 level he was never good he jus had that stupid handle that wouldn’t help his team win at all can’t score too small n he weak over hyped n over rated he couldn’t even last n a pick up game n my park
He’s not 5’7 he’s like 5’4 wearing shoes
When you’re that small, you have to have extremely strong fundamentals to build on & high IQ. He never learned how properly shoot and he took low quality shots. Honestly I blame his dad, he sheltered Julian from any and all coaching influences that were not him, when he had the clout and resources to work with probably some of the best athletic trainers around, but his dad refused to let him learn from anyone else but him. Lastly, he does something a lot of ball handlers do that weren’t properly trained, and that’s dribbling while standing in place. If your body isn’t moving, all that dribbling is useless, this is why he had so much trouble creating space, he’d make a few dribble moves while completely still, then try take off after he’d done the move when your supposed to be moving while you make the move. It’s simple stuff to fix but his dad is a dumb dumb who doesn’t know basketball on a high enough level to be a trainer.
He finna graduate high-school this year fr fr
He never grasped the mental side of the game. He clearly has all the natural skill in the world. He just never unlearned the selfish score first style. I bet his dad is partial to blame for his ego.
His dad failed him when he made him focus on basketball knowing he wouldn’t be tall. He’d be better off playing running back or playing baseball. He could’ve atleast gotten farther just off his work ethic
nah, dad got him $$$. Grifters gonna grift
I remember first seeing him and thinking if he grows he can be really good but he never did and after seeing his pops I knew nba was out the door 😂
He’s an angry elf.
Call me elf one more time!!
Weird to make this video 4 years after he’s fizzled out. Let the kid live.
his dad destroyed him...😢😢😢
