  • The prop came off in 30 feet of water... time for a new one. Quick install how-to to install the prop. Pretty simple.

That's some bad luck, but as you said need to check that pin every season. My thrust washer was seized into the prop I damaged when my hydro-foil fell off during operation (should have bolted to my lower unit instead of pressure mounted) so ordered a new one of those too. Nice video on this easy maintenance. Thanks!

Notice the reverse relationship, he went DOWN in the pitch number to get a HIGHER speed at WOT (wide open throttle). And thanks for the clarity, keeping it simple and direct, remove Cotter Pin, break lose and remove Castle Nut, next washer, then spacer, then prop and finally thrust washer. Keep em straight, then reverse for reassembly following inspection, and greasing as needed, thrust washer on and seeded (feel for it), prop on and seeded, spacer, washer, castle nut, tighten (probably around 40 to 50 psi--make sure holes line up for cotter pin. And be damn sure you use either a brand new Cotter Pin, or that the old one is in perfect condition. One more thing, consider a back up kicker engine and always have an anchor ready to deploy NOW if you lose your main when you are in rough stuff, or near rocks or shore. Anchors can be life saving equipment but ONLY if you have it handy and ready to go at a SECONDS notice. It's not time to start "digging" for the damn thing.

Better to get a 90-degree bend in that cotter pin.

What’s the rpm and top speed after this prop?

What thrustwasher and spacer kit did you purchase

You'll likely lose another prop the way you've installed that cotter pin.

Did you ever experience any chatter with the different SS props?

I think I hear some chatter at idle but I’ve heard it’s normal for this engine. Like there’s no major difference between the props that I’ve changed out, but maybe there would if the prop diameter was significantly different. Haven’t noticed much difference though in my experience.
