    Lyrics:
    (do do do do do)
    Come on in take a seat next to me
    You know we got we got what you need
    We may be liars preaching to choirs
    But we can we can sell you dreams
    You don't need sympathy
    They got a pill for everything
    Just take that dark cloud
    Wring it out to wash them down
    But don't pray for us
    We don't need no modern Jesus to roll with us
    The only rule we need is never giving up
    The only faith we have is faith in us
    (do do do do)
    We're the ones who start little fires
    Yeah they burn out
    But when they're on the rise they can't help but shine
    And when the wave approaches
    Take our ashes to the ocean
    Who cares if Hell awaits
    We're having drinks at Heaven's Gate so
    Don't pray for us
    We don't need no modern Jesus to roll with us
    The only rule we need is never giving up
    The only faith we have is faith in us
    We know that we're helpless
    At least we always assumed
    But we don't need to prove nothing to you
    Let's keep it cool you don't need to feel blue
    Cause we won't sell you nothing you can't use
    Don't pray for us
    We don't need no modern Jesus to roll with us
    The only rule we need is never giving up
    The only faith we have is faith in us
    (do do do do do)

    "In an interview with NPR, the lead singer (John Gourley) explained that the message of the song as a whole was to simply say that it is better to have faith in yourself than in God. He would rather spend time trying to improve his life on Earth then spend time hoping that his life will magically be improved.
    This song, like many others by this band, fits the common theme of atheism or not having strict beliefs in a certain line of faith."

      @Barbara Lainhart In a fundamental sense, god is a idea. We come up with what he looks like, his doctrines, and how he will treat us in the great unknown. God is a figment of our mind and only we can change how we live our lives and how we fix our own situations. Hoping god will fix all your problems because you have faith is just ludicrous. God in my view, should be a moral compass, not anything more.

All of that was done in the name of Christianity and driven by profit. Almost all the major countries of Africa were forced into Christianity, and many more countries. I am not an active Christian but I still abide by my faith -to some extent- and pray every night. What I dislike about the Christian religion is the avid worshipers who condemn you because of the scriptures THEY deem to be relevant while virtually ignoring the other portions of the Bible that says THOU SHALT NOT JUDGE etc. Hence I stopped going to church altogether; I think my relationship with God is my business and not the business of the plethora of modern Jesuses roaming about.

      @@Requestnetwork1 Under my point of view, this song criticizes the tendency of religious organizations of putting aside compassion between humans and only putting emphasis on blind faith and obidience to the rules, creating a sense of fear of God and his punishment instead of trust and love
      This has surely been a problem throughout all of history, and a couple of centuries ago it was way worse, but it's sad to see that such things remain even today

      @@davidepellegrino3999 That's a fair criticism and I find that trend especially prominent in the Catholic church, sorry if you've experienced that.
      But the main message of the song is to put aside faith in God and have faith in yourself which is completely unbiblical. I'd rather listen to a criticism from someone in the faith than people who are literally posting satanic content (look at the name of their albums and songs).

    • @Requestnetwork1
      @Requestnetwork1 Před rokem +1

I gave my life to God 2yrs ago ive studied nearly every religion you can think of trying to find the truth & i found jesus, i believe in him because i actually get results, my prayers get answerd, he speaks & ive met him (weather u believe it or not) unlike there other religions there is no fruit. yes Adam & eve are from the dirt & clay & water the human body is made of those things science proves that, & yes incest was a thing back then, God allowed it to produce life on earth & incest didn't become a sin until the Mosaic law which was thousands of years after adam & eve. & yes God can see all things, he knew man would sin & cause chaos but God also knew there would be those who would serve him & be faithful, we are born into sin when a man & a woman conceives a child, Jesus was not conceived by a man & woman he was born without the help of a man supernaturally, thats why he wasnt born in sin (obviously) and jesus never sinned bible never said he was a (regular) man it just says he was a man it says he was God in the flesh lol and yes for many years africa has been overwhelmed by satanic culture even today, man areas of africa are subdue by witch doctors, especially in sudan, u should read about it sometime but yea ..thats didn't ruin my day at all lol .......

Once again your questions are quite basic, to be made in God's Image is not a physical meaning to be made in Gods Image mean that we were made in his likeness, the Hebrew in its latin root for image is "Imago dei" God created Adam & Eve perfect, but when man sinned in the garden, sin destroyed that. God created Lucifer & like Human, Angels have free will & lucifer chose his, God doesn't want to create people & force them to love him, he want people to decide to love him & sadly people take a different path, Angels are Gods servants but we are Gods heir, we were made to worship God & have fellowship with him, you say you know the bible well but i say your either a liar or you over exaggerate your knowledge of scripture, because from the questions you've asked i pick up that your knowledge of scripture of of one who has barely read or barely understand it ...

    people keep arguing if this is anti-religious or pro, Gourley said in multiple interviews he doesn't believe in "God" he believes in Music.

      I am Christian, but Anti-religious. Gourley needs a lot of faith for denying God's existance. What a pity so much good singers don't believe in God

      +chelade17 - Nah. The Jesus myth is just another story. Jesus, if he even existed, was not magical, and, I hate to break it to you, but he's never coming back. Do you really think there was one supernatural guy amongst billions of members of a relatively recent hairless ape species? And, he came along only 2,000 years ago on one little planet in a 14-billion-year-old universe consisting of 100+ billion galaxies? How immensely arrogant and narcissistic does one have to be to believe such nonsense?

    • @chelade17
      @chelade17 Před 8 lety +1

      zamaz99 No Jesus is not a myth, but reality. His return is at hand, and yes i really do believe in Him. May The Lord be with us all. Amen. Good night.

      @zamaz99 Před 8 lety +2

      chelade17 Jesus is reality, huh? How about Zeus, Thor, and Isis? I guess you believe they were reality, too, because there is just as much evidence to support their magical powers as there is to support Jesus's magical powers.

    when i first heard this song, i couldn't tell if it was pro-humanity or if it was a sarcastic take on the outlooks of today's society. even if the message is saying hey have some faith in yourself or if it's saying hey we really do need jesus, it's a gorgeous and thought-provoking piece.

      Kisha Jones I highly DOUBT they are trying to promote a faithless approach to Jesus. I know Portugal. the MAn with their religious songs and they are mostly making fun of or exposing the mindset of the government and world powers to kick out the rules of God (same sex marriage, no abortion etc.) All the people agreeing that this song is an atheist anthem have their heads under the axe willingly.
