I’m not sure if it’s stray, the cat looks healthy. It might be just an outdoor cat that is comfortable with humans. That or at least if it is stray, it gets fed and is friendly. But in the end, it’s a cute cat.

Timber 2702 stray cats move from house to house getting attention from everybody and if they’re born stray as long as they aren’t near death they relatively prefer it. In fact even domesticated cats prefer it, travelling across massive distances in its own outside territory. Not to mention some stray cats become community cats

@John Arch I think you are confusing stray and feral. A stray cat who was previously a pet but abandoned can absolutely act like this. A feral cat who has never been socialized with humans wont though. Plus I'm fairly certain that that notch cut into its ear means it has been picked up by animal control before, been given treatment, and spayed/neutered. Most signs point to abandoned pet.

@@frankmzwang9061 IDK if it's international, but many rescue organisations with a "catch, neuter, release" policy clip one ear of feral cats as they get neutered so they won't get caught and brought in a second time. This might be the case here.

PRDX Growing yeah there is no reason why a cats ear should be clipped that far down. A quarter of an inch is enough. Some cats with clipped ears have even less than a quarter of an inch clipped off.
They only clip a small piece of the ear so its noticeable and so that they dont reopen the cat to neuter or spade it, that's more than they needed they went in on the ear thats a lot

my cat is a stray with a big chunk of her ear missing also she after a few months of pacing outside wandered in and never left. she hates to be picked up or sit in laps, but loves her blanket at the foot of my bed.

Strays that have been through a TNR program get their ear clipped like that. It just means this community is taking care of the colony and making sure they’re healthy and got them spayed/neutered and vaccinated. It wasn’t some accident or trauma, it was done in a controlled environment by a doctor so the community knows not to stress him out anymore trying to bring him in or to have someone start a surgery on him that he’s already had.

If you can imagine, a cat like this sleeping outside, is always on guard to defend itself, even when it tries to sleep. There is no comfort in that life. The moment he felt safe, his eyes started closing. He could finally relax, knowing he was safe, that someone else could defend/care for him.
I hope you adopted/took the cat with you after this. It would be cruel to just leave it fending for itself outside again after this.

I think you're forgetting that, often times, certain cats actually prefer wandering around for miles than be cooped up in a small box.

It's a community cat, these are common in many parts of the world, especially Asia. In Hong Kong we used to call them temple cats because it was common to see them snoozing on the statues. Also I am certain the Daoist priests fed them. They're sort of everyone's pet and everyone looks after them, it's rare to see a thin one. Each of our house cats disappeared for a while at some point. All came back a little chubbier than they left. Reckon they ran down to the local temple to go mooch off the priests. 'mew! mew! please kind master I am but a poor waif' *big kitten eyes*.
