    This channel is beginning to hurt me from nostalgia and wanting to go back in time. I absolutely loved this game. I seriously probably put like 400 hours on this game. Loved the music, the cinematic experience, the combat and the story my God I can go on and on. This and the 2nd game just blew me away back in my early teenage days. I wish they would remaster this game for like switch or something.

    Tyler I've told you before but your childhood was the same as mine. But instead of dad it was mom. She would buy me games ff7 lunar etc. And played them with me. I was born in December 1986. When we got this one it changed my life. We would have been good friends back then. Unfortunately mom passed away and now these games shed tears. Never forgotten always remembered.

    @PK_Dispel Před měsícem +7

    I'm around your age and had a similar story about actually getting the game. My mom took my sister and I to Toys R' Us to pick up a gift for her friend's kid. While there my sister and I ran off to the video game section and there we saw Lunar. The big box caught both of our eyes and since we had only recently been getting into RPG's, we knew we had to have it. We pleaded with our mom to get it for us but she said she didn't have enough money on her. We knew that if we left the store we would not return, so we told her we could wait there while she goes to the bank, and to this day I have NO FREAKING clue how we pulled it off but she agreed. We waited there starring at that shiny box until she came back and bought it for us.
    My sister and I played the hell out of that game together. Months later an aunt in another state asked my mom if my sister could move in with her for a little while to help her take care of her kids. I remember so vividly how I cried thinking about my sister, and the music from this game reminded me so much of her. When I heard the music play in your video it took me right back to that time and made me tear up again from that memory.
    Such a good game! Thank you for sharing more memories with us!

      @anonamatron Před 29 dny

      You'd better be nice to your mom. I don't think I ever got my parents to GO TO THE BANK to get money ON THE SPOT to buy something for me.... geez.
      I could get my parents to buy something on the spot if I paid them back when we got home, since I didn't often bring lots of money with me. They encouraged me not to. But for them to just buy me a game was almost exclusively a birthday/Christmas thing. I can think of one time where my parents let me pick out a new Gameboy game for a long car trip... I grabbed Final Fantasy Legend II for that.
      Anyway, you have a very nice mom.

    • @PK_Dispel
      @PK_Dispel Před 29 dny

      @@anonamatron Agreed! My mom and I have an amazing and positive relationship, and I do anything she needs or wants me to do for her now, so no worries there.
      Yeah this was definitely a one time thing, and after remembering the story I went and asked her if she remembers it and she said she doesn't and has no idea why she did that either, lol.
      We were poor at the time. Our dad was not in the picture so my mom had to raise me and my siblings on her own. Being the oldest, I was normally the one who took care of my two siblings and a cousin who we took in because his mom passed away. Mom was ALWAYS working, she sacrificed so much for us, and I have never doubted that I had the best mom I could have ever hoped for. I think mom did that for us because she knew video games were important to us, and quite possibly the thing that was keeping us home safely, rather than out on the street and on drugs like how some of my family ended up.
      Whatever it was, trust me, i am very aware that what she did was WAY too much, and that I was extremely fortunate and spoiled by what she did for us. I just wanted to give a little background because I don't want to give the impression that this was common and that we were ungrateful or anything.

    My number 1 all time favorite game. That cutscene with Alex and Luna at the end gets me every time in the waterworks. Same when I see the recorded history scene in Lunar 2 before Ghaleon appears. My Grandmother gave this game to me for Christmas of 1999 with Final Fantasy 8 and I was so happy and at the time I was 15 and no game has ever surpassed it since although Lunar 2 came close. It was definitely the right moment in time for me to play this when it came out. In the years since, I imported the Mpeg Saturn version, and picked up the OG on the Sega Cd. I really need to sit down and play those as well.

    I remember my father used to buy me video games once a month, in 1999 we went to a store in my city and I saw a lot of PS1 games, I didn't know what to choose and my father picked up Lunar Silver Star Story Complete and told me "this game looks interesting". I remember I was on winter break and I spent two weeks playing Lunar, the intro, the scene of Luna singing on the ship and the combat system, the art, everything was fantastic, until then I had only played one RPG, Mario RPG, but Lunar opened up a world of possibilities for me in RPGs (Xenogears for example). I wholeheartedly agree with your feelings and attachment to Lunar. I played the original Sega CD version and was hooked. I was in my mid teens and loved anime as I grew up on Robotech and many more mecha series. Lunar captivated me with it's visuals, imagination, songs, story, and characters. I beat the game twice on Sega CD, I never wanted it to end. I even put the game in a CD player and it played the music tracks, and I created a mix tape of the soundtrack from the game and played it in my car. When the Playstation version was released, I couldn't wait to get my hands on it. As you said, the amount of details and added cinematics in the PS version really brought it to life that much more. Lunar is definitely one of those games that forever changed the way I looked at games. This is one of the most underrated titles out there, as many people have not heard of it.

    Lunar Silver Star and Lunar Eternal Blue are two of the most underrated JRPGs of all time! I have both box sets for PS1 that I cherish as my collection. I wish the PSP version of the game would come to PS+ with better load times. It was a beautiful "remake" but the load times made it a chore. Noriyuki Iwadare's music in this series is simply magical! Listening to another person talk about their passion and experience with this game warms my heart. I still get goosebumps hearing Luna's melody played on the ocarina or her singing it with her "la la la's". Growing up my dad was a Zelda/Metroid guy or more so action RPGs like Faery Tales on Genesis so I too didn't have much experience with turn-based RPGs until I was teen when FF7 came out. To this day he won't play turn-based FF games. Only recently he finally tried FF16 and loved it because it was action based.

    My little brother and I played through the original L:TSS on SEGA CD, and it was an amazing experience even then (L:EB was an excellent sequel) -- this PS remake is just so enhanced, it makes the SCD one look kind of drab (even the SCD EB was so much more colourful)! It's not just about the looks, though...as you said, the adventure and story are what it was all about! That SCD intro music was so different -- still quite good in its own way, even with the cringey bits! I'm so glad you gave the game another chance...your dad might've appreciated the cinematic elements and the writing if he had stuck with it!

    I have heard so many people on here talk about this game series, and specifically talk about Silver Star Story Complete, and Eternal Blue Complete. I love jrpgs, and specifically turn based RPGs but have never played any Lunar games. Thanks to your video, I will specifically try to get the PS1 versions (instead of the Sega CD ones). Great video Tyler, and love hearing you reminisce about games from your past!!!!

    And probably more games, that i haven't finished yet

    I thought I was the only one who became emotionally involved with this game. This is the first, and only, video game, that I can remember tearing up over. I love what Working Designs did here. It's too bad that just about every other video game publisher who tried to follow suit only ended up saturating the market with garbage.

    I loved the original on Sega CD and pored over screenshots for the Saturn version. It was one of the reasons I bought the system. After Working Designs and Sega had their falling out, I was happy to read that WD was going to bring over the PSX version. I preordered it as soon as I could, nabbing the demo disco and the Ghaleon punching puppet. I thought it was so cool that you could create a file save from the demo that could be transferred to the real game. Thankfully, I didn't encounter the glitch in the demo which would prevent you from beating the game! The memories I have attached to Lunar: SSSC are tender. It is so summer of '99 for me. It always brings back memories of the newfound sense of freedom that comes with graduating High School, the friends that I had back then, and the great times we had. I still have the game, the demo disc, the strategy guide, and the Ghaleon punching puppet!

    It’s funny, I vaguely remember trying a demo of this game at an Electronics Boutique when I was a kid - I didn’t own a ps1 so I knew it would probably be my only time playing it. For some reason the art and enjoyability left a lasting impression so when I came across the IOS version decades later I had to give it a try, and I wasn’t disappointed! If you are looking for an authentic way to play it, go for the IOS version. I only wish they would port Lunar 2 for IOS as well because I’ve heard it is just as good, if not better.

    Lunar SSS is what got me into RPG's. Watching my neighbor play got me invested in the story. after that I had to play it myself. Love the game so much that once I grew up and was able to afford buying my own games. I bought just about every version of the Game. remember my teenage years I gotten a Gameboy Micro and Lunar for the GBA. Beat it. even tho it wasn't the PS1 version. somehow my imagination was able to fill in those Blanks. also love the PSP version. was shocked how early in the game the spoiled stuff lol. still great version to play.

    To be honest this is my first Lunar game but I finished Lunar 2 Eternal Blue first. When I was about to play this game again there's a huge turn of event in my life and my family because of greed and hatred that involve my relatives I was disowned by my family and kicked out of the house and I was only a child. This and Grandia 1 was the last game that I played on my PS1.

    I have been gaming since NES in 94, playing a bit of genesis on my friends house, and almost taste the SNES at my friend's friends house. But Playstation 1, is the one that trully define my taste of gaming until nowadays. NES and Genesis give my nostalgia, but PS1 are the legacy I brought til today. I don't care if it was japanese import, RPG, sports,Action adventure, platformer or racing,PS1 gave me taste of the best game in each of that genre all at one platform since my formative years and Im thankful for that.

    Once again thanks for making these videos! It takes me back to a time where I didn't realized how far my parents would go to get things for us. I remembered asking if I can get a special Monopoly boardgame edition at Toy r Us. After a long day of work, my dad managed to go out of his way to a Toy r Us and picked one up. And I'm sure my mom had trouble finding a certain Power Ranger toy for my siblings. I can only imagine the confused look she had trying to sift through all the toys lol. Really grateful for them to this day! Cheers to our parents for going above and beyond for us!

  • @anonamatron
    @anonamatron Před 29 dny

    My loyalty will always lie with the original Sega CD version since that's where most of my nostalgia for the game is from, but I can see some of the appeal of the PSX one.
    The way I got it was cool because I was in a used game store checking out Sega CD games. They let you try them before you bought them to see if you like them. The girl working there just suddenly says "hey do you like RPGs?" "Yes!" and she pops Lunar in. I bought it pretty quickly. I was the envy of my friends because nobody had even heard of this game but here it was, a Final Fantasy/Phantasy Star/Dragon Warrior level RPG, with movies and voice acting and lots of amazing stuff, and I was the only one with the machine that could run it!
    Since I didn't let anyone borrow my whole Sega CD I don't think my friends really ever got the full impact of this game, but man, they KNEW I had an awesome RPG that they didn't. I did take my Sega CD to other people's houses for sleepovers and stuff though. We did some Lunar possibly and definitely Vay that way.
    I don't like the removal of random encounters. I don't get why people need to see the (mostly) unavoidable monsters, and it makes levelling up a little more annoying.
    Storywise, I didn't like Luna jumping on the ship. Just changes too much of the vibe and intent of the original. The game is still pretty good, of course. but I guess I'm a bit of a purist.
    The PSP one looked really cool, and the new "prequel" intro sequence is kind of cool to see, but they way over-simplified the game, even more than the PSX one did. Haven't even tried the GBA one. I don't know why they all need to simplify things instead of expanding them.
    Also, it seems like Lunar 2 is always overlooked by everyone... don't miss that one, because in a lot of ways it's better than this one, though Lunar 1 is still the one that sticks with me.

    This was wonderful. I love the Sony PlayStation 1 and always saw Lunar but It never got to me back then. Back then those JRPG'S hit so good straight to the heart. 10:44 I hope we get a anime theme video one day that would be fun. 11:27 Nintendo and Final Fantasy 7 got me back then as I played those games It hit differently than other games around that time for me. Cool video. ^_^

I loved them all.. in my opinion though, the opening song on the PS1 is memorable for me.. I actually hummed the song of Luna to my baby son when he was born
    Edit: I did play Lunar 2: Eternal Blue on PS 2 and the DS Luna Legend prequel but was not able to finish then
    Btw, any chance you played Legend Of Legaia (1999,2000) as well? It was the next JRPG I finished after Lunar
