When I was growing up, like in school and society, we were taught not to see colour. We were told that the best thing to do was to totally disregard the colour of someone’s skin. We did that for 15 or 20 years but now we’re told that we have to acknowledge people of colour and the challenges they face that we don’t face as white people. We have to realise white privilege. But that feels like we’re treating black people differently when you’ve been taught to ignore colour. Plus, how deep should we go in with this, are we gonna be told to do something else again? And all the while I’m really just thinking… I see that you’re black but I don’t really care. If you’re nice to me I’ll be nice to you. If I’m depressed or going through some shìt, then I don’t think anyone has the right to diminish that just coz I’m white. Honestly, I think we should go back to not seeing colour.
