  • Captain Holt's signature stone-faced empathy is on display in this heartwarming act of culinary affection, a memory in the form of a sandwich. But not just any sandwich: the cheesy, hammy, gooey French brasserie classic, Croque Monsieur. Let's hear how incorrectly I can pronounce things this week as we recreate this toasty brunchtime delight.

With experience comes varying levels of clarity and resolution on a subject, for you "baking bread" is a monolithic singular task of difficulty. When you look at it though, this bread recipe consists of pouring ingredients into a bowl and mixing, then putting the dough into a pan and baking. Compare that to making croissants or hand pulled noodles or any number of things he's done, and it seems super simple.

I shall never forget the most joyous eating event on camp out we had. My son had only been in scouts for a couple years. A new parent offered to cook that weekend. This guy was one of those professional tailgaters. He never made it in to the stadium, but the stuff he could make in the parking lot made his friends all happy.
This guy starts setting up a turkey fryer, a sandwich station, and a dipping station, and proceeds to make friggin' monte cristo sandwiches on a camp out. Had the jelly and everything, and when someone asked about powdered sugar, he said, "Do you think I'm a savage?" and pointed to a paper bag.
This, mind you, was the evening after his gorgeous camp chef OVEN produced fresh brownies on a little 1/4 sized sheet pan.
    Best. Camp out. Ever.
