  • The LS MT125 sub compact tractor is almost identical to the New Holland Workmaster 25S. Tractor Time with Tim reviews both tractors and points similarities and differences between these tractors and the John Deere 1025R and Kubota BX2680. The Farm Progress Show is a great place to see these machines!

I love my Workmaster 25S. What a versatile machine.
Here are my experiences if they may help someone out.
If you get one the first thing you need to do is flip the toolbox to the inside of the roll bar or you will break it on a tree branch when mowing. Experience...
My tractor handles a 48 inch (yellow) King Kutter tiller very well, it will till almost anything. It pulls a King Kutter middle buster very well. I love the way it mows, and the loader works very well as long as my tiller is on the back. My dealer supports it very well, I had a leaking cylinder and they came to my house to install a new cylinder on my loader for free, no hassle. Has anyone had the lawnmower blades loosen up on you? I've found they need to be tightened with an impact or mine keep loosening up. I have a 50" snowblower from Northern Tool on order for the back of it, anybody have experience with one of those?

LS out of South Korea builds LS and imports both to North America. Now I also believe that Fiat builds all the backhoes for them. Fiat also builds backhoes for others as well. The key point is exactly what Tim picked up on " price point". They are all good units just and may be a better or best unit for an application you have and can afford. One could argue all day long on best, The key is what fits your application needs & pocketbook. I am not particularly partial to any colour however, having operated most extensively for a very long time. I would say that application, repetitive tasks and must haves are far mor important that brand and colour.

The LS is a working mans tractor. For the price and point I don't believe the other makers can touch it. Yes it lacks the convenience features but it more than makes up for it a price point. I bought my LS MT125 TLB for 15k plus delivered for free 300 miles away from the dealer I bought it from. Also LS has the best warranty on the market. I looked at Deere, Kubota, and the Masseys. For the money there isn't a better option out there. Also the LS has been able to out perform my massey sub compact capacities. I am unsure how it stack up against the deere 1025 but I'm willing to bet it will out perform it as well. Bottom line if you want a tractor that will do the work it will do it where as the other makes will stall out before the MT125.

If New Holland still treats you like they did my cousin's old employer in 2015 on there Speedrower 240 windrower... RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN!!!
Even after he lost steering on the road at 20mph and ditched it on the way to the field the day after it was delivered. They would not warranty it. Because New Holland said "it can't do that". Then after finaly replacing the main pump it seemed to fix it.
But then at 32hrs on the hour meter the computer would not let him start it... It kept saying "Checking sensors" then "ok to start" like it was suppose to do. But when you turned the key and started it. It shut down and started over again with "checking sensors". After it set in the hay field for 6 months they repossessed it because Bob quit paying the payments and told them to get it off his land. Because, according to New Holland corporate "it is suppose to do that". And there is nothing wrong with it. I would like to know how you're supposed to mow hay with the engine off. THE DEALER WAS TRYING TO GET IT FIXED BUT NEW HOLLAND WOULD NOT LET THEM!
They mowed hay around it the rest of the year with a new Case windrower. When they finally repossessed it they had use a crane to load it because it would not stay running long enough to move or even come out of park. I was therefore that.
He got rid of everything New Holland in the next 2 years except the small square baler. He only puts about 50 bales a year threw it. So he could not justify buying another one. He still has a Case mower and 2 Massy Ferguson tractors and a Massy Ferguson bailer from the same dealer. And he went to John Deere for 2 Combines the next year. They all were New Holland for 30 years before the Speedrower. Or as Onelonelyfarmer called it the "Norower". Yes, this was the same model he had in 2014. And he has CZcams videos on his. And New Holland treated him like crap too. And Messic's tried to help him just like Redmond's (our local New Holland dealer) did for Bob. So no New Holland for me. And my favorite color is blue.

Kind of off topic from the comparison but I would think all of your subscribers would love to see a video of a 1025R being made in Augusta. You are probably the only person JD would allow to video tape the assembly. I am certain their are probably some parts of the assembly that cannot be videotaped to prevent the competition from stealing manufacturing secrets. The video would be similar to Corvette owners watching their car being made. Always enjoy your videos and your passion.

    @gatesj777 Před 4 lety

Don’t know if it’s been mentioned and the bx you have for comparison is not the backhoe model but one key difference in the bx backhoe at least in recent ones is the quick detach feature. No pins to line up or rust. Honestly I find it even easier to attach and detach the backhoe than the FEL on my bx23s. I actually leave the hoe on unless I need to put a 3ph attachment on or I’m mowing because it’s easier to put the tractor away safely undercover with the expensive backhoe that way and it’s ballast with heavier FEL work. Literally under a minute to attach or detach the backhoe.
Of course the easy FEL and backhoe attach & detach is made up for by the pain in you know where of the mid mount mower but I get better every time. Like Neil Messick I am jealous of the FEL attachment to just pick up your MMM but I’m scheming to fabricate something like that on my own for my BX in conjunction with the standard bobcat loader interface...
The bottom pin on the hoe just drops into that j hook on the bottom of the tractor and the top clamps clamp around the pins on the tractor after you push them up against the tractor with the hoe boom. Hoses are not ganged like on the FEL but still very easy, it’s basically power beyond...
By the way I don’t understand how you break the anti scalp wheels on the BX MMM, they’re built plenty heavy unless you’re hamfisted but I will concede if your dealer sees it a lot it must be a pervasive problem.

I have one of these and a JD 1023e, both new. They are similar in most ways, but the Deere has a better hydrostat. The LS hydro fights your leg pressure in high range, especially uphill. The Deere is smooth, consistent and easy, much better on the leg. The Deere is cramped, the LS open and roomy, like my Toyota Sequoia. JD is quieter and overall smoother, especially the hydro. Love them both for who they are, Linda and Janine.

  • @-Dave-is-not-here
    @-Dave-is-not-here Před 4 lety +2

I think you review was pretty fair but would like to add a few things, You are right you need to decide what you need out of your tractor 1st. Me I live in Arizona and will never have a lawn in the desert unless it is artificial turf so no mower deck will be needed(ever) for me. So the strong point of the JD was a non-factor for me. 2nd I do not need anything on the front other than a bucket or my clamp on forks. I have no woods or snow to deal with so really no need to remove the bucket for other stuff, if my needs do change I can add the option. So the Kubatos strongest point of universal attachment again non-factor for me. Yes the fixed position on the 3 point hitch is a nice feature and would like it. I just redid my driveway and with a little practice it isn't bad to get the hang of the level, would love to have but not a deal breaker. The power plant is the same in all 3 tractors, a yanmar 3 cylinder diesel also all 3 have solid rear ends and hydrostat trannys. The LS/NH does have the largest front axle, and from reading the front axle is a weak point on all sub compacts. The LS/NH other than tilt has all the same options, would it be nice to have sure, do I need it? No. So I chose the New Holland WM25S and save over 3k to spend on rear attachments. So far I am perfectly happy. So again find your needs and than find the tractor that fits your needs the best. Tim love the channel keep up the good work and yes being a blue tractor guy I do watch Tony's Tractor Adventure all the time too and love it. Remember everyone no matter what color the tractor we are all ahead of those poor guys with just a shovel.

My 3 point hitch can be stopped at different levels. I don't have the mower or back hoe but it would have been nice to have. Mine doesn't have the emissions like the newer ones have.

We have two 55 HP LS tractors here on the ranch and we're getting rid of them in the near future. Parts availability on them sucks and dealer support is crappy. I bought 4 oil filters for them last year, 2 to change and 2 spares because they are hard to get. I had to order them and waited two weeks at a cost of $100. I doubt seriously I'd ever consider buying another LS.

Couldn't hardly deal with John Deere, I ended up buying a 3140 LS with a cab 12000.00 cheaper than Deere. Your right about some of the comfort features but the LS has been great with the extra savings I kept the 1025r. Great videos, love the channel.

Hi Tim. According to the LS website, the hydraulic lift control which the LS MT125 uses is position control. (lstractorusa.com/products/sub-compact/mt1-series/mt125-24.7hp/)
On a side note: on Kioti's website, it too lists it's CS2510 subcompact as having position control.
However I am aware that website information is not something a person can always take at face value or take to the bank!

Good review. I demonstrated both the New Holland 25s and the John Deere 1025r before purchasing. I really wanted the New Holland to meet my needs as I’m Dutch and thought having a NH would be great. However there was one particular feature that I just couldn’t overlook. The NH 25s shut the motor off every time I got off the seat with no override. I spoke to the salesman and he didn’t know of an override. Now, I’m sure there is an aftermarket fix, however I just found it inconvenient and thought it would be hard on the starter and motor to always have to restart the motor when leaving the seat. It killed the deal for me. But the other issues you mentioned in this review stuck out to me. I was also surprised when I got the bids. The green was about $1000 more and I was willing to pay that for the convince, better engineering and after purchase support I could find for the Green tractor. I felt bad when the salesman called me a few weeks later and I told him I bought a different brand tractor. I mentioned the issues here and what was talked about in the video. He understood and was receptive to the feed back and thanked me for giving the NH a chance. I was impressed with the follow up! Who knows maybe someday I’ll own a NH too! Thanks for the review!

Any tips on keeping them from getting all scratched up when clearing lots of brush and small trees, etc? I’ve wondered if pipe insulation or something would keep the loader from getting all scratched up in heavy brush. I’m probably being silly - it IS a tractor and not a sports car…

I've been doing research lately as my dad wants to get a sub-compact. I've looked at New Holland, John Deere, Kubota, Kioti, and Massey Ferguson. The New Holland/LS does in fact have the highest lift capabilities for the loader and 3 point hitch. They've got 2 separate hydraulic pumps like you would see on bigger units so you're not sacrificing implement flow for steering, and they have the highest flow rating. They do fall about 1hp short on PTO compared to the others.

Be sure to look beyond raw capacity. The extra features of the big two brands (Deere/Kubota) are very nice, and many find them to be worth the money. Also, evaluate resale value.

@@wkualum3194 , Mike jumped ship and got in bed with Kubota. I thought he would at least make some reference to the RK in comparison from time to time, but it's like the RK's never existed now. That may be some sort of contractual agreement or maybe just some self imposed ethical viewpoint, but it would certainly be helpful. I was considering an RK24 but when I wanted to load the rear tires I was told the RK24 couldn't be loaded, but the soon to be released RK25 could be. I inquired further and RK called me and told me that the RK24 had experienced several axle failures when the tires were loaded so to do so would void the warranty. They do sell a ballast box for the RK24. They went on to tell me that the new RK25 would come with loaded tires and that it was "a totally different animal" than the RK24. I would have gone with an RK25 but while the belly mower decks were available, they were presently unable to get the mid mount gearbox to drive them. I wanted a tractor this Summer so I went with what I could get, the New Holland Workmaster 25S. None of the other dealerships in my area would make any effort to find me a tractor if it wasn't sitting on their lot.

Hey Tim... thinking I may have an important question here. After watching a few other videos, along with talking with my Insurance provider, it has been stated that my Home Owners Insurance will not cover my compact JD, along with it's attachments, if used "off" my property. Basically if I help my neighbors or friends with tractor duties, even traveling down the gravel roadway a hundred feet... MY TRACTOR and any ATTACHMENTS are bit covered. This is crazy... I talked with my salesman at JD today, he told me a story about a guy who mowed his neighbors grassy trail through the woods. The grass built up on top of the mower deck, ended up catching on fire, which ended up catching the tractor on fire... TOTAL LOSS!!!
And his Insurance provider stated... "sorry but no coverage off personal property". Can you maybe use you knowledge and find us some answers as to a positive direction for Tractor/Attachments Insurance Coverage... I don't wanna take my tractor anywhere to help out now. Thanks if you can help out with information.
