He let his guard down for half a second and she slit his throat.
@K M stupendous!
Her wit is always that sharp.
Slit his throat with a smile 🤣🤣🤣
Hahahaha
Well deserved 😂
Meryl is so hilarious with her shade. 🤣 Graham's facial expression is priceless.
I don’t get it. Can you explain?
@@MaxOakland she’s saying, I believe, that she was given notes over the course of her career and, as a result, became a fine actor. So that he really shouldn’t have gotten bent out of shape just because someone was trying to help him out…..even if he didn’t want or need the advice (notes).
She is a viciously hilarious I just love her
@@justingurley836 She’s saying she got notes from Hugh Grant when they worked together.
@@justingurley836I think for most men it’s a pride thing to not take advice from women🤷🏼♂️
And sure enough, the clip cuts off before Meryl says “I’m *kidding,*” and Hugh nervously says “But they believed you, they believed you…!”
I shouldn't be surprised, but it was kinda disappointing to hear it was a joke, but then again, it is funnier this way and they are shorts, so something is always missing or edited.
Of course we believe Meryl. No one is more believable.
I think she said she was kidding for plausible deniability. She wasn’t about to let him get away with playing off having made Drew cry, but she’s classy enough to give him a gracious out. Meryl, man… there’s just no one more adroit.
@@Boadicea6 hahaha... But seriously, who would dare give HER notes on her acting 😂😂😂
@@lekoman yes his similar opinions start to make it more about how he thinks and less about all those women he worked with. Called him out on the woman is crazy or hateful trope
Clever, funny, mad as a chair. Sounds like something to aspire to.
If you're saying you wish you were like Thompson then you also have to be irritating, tiresome and hypocritical.
@@lesleyclaff3172 hypocritical? How so, if one may enquire?
I don’t get it, why would you use **chair** as a metaphor for being **mad** .
….. Chairs at my house are perfectly fine.😂

Meryl is completely in a class of her own. I didn’t understand the hype when I was a kid but now I get it.
Same here. As years go by my respect and admiration only grow stronger.
I didn't give her time of day 20 years ago. She was one amonsgt others.
I get to see how exceptional she is ❤
Me too. She s a great soul. I admire her human sense of humor and acting talent.
Yessss. She's otherworldly
Incredible flex from Meryl. She knew she was the boss on that couch. Haha
Can u explain it to me? I don’t get it
I swear she’s always boss😅
She was joking, she said so in the long version
I love that Emma Thompson is mad as a chair! That just makes me smile.😅
What type of British talk is this I’m so confused
@@PeterDoherty2001 if you Google the saying this is the only reference that comes up. Nobody ever said it before. It's just daft and makes him look slightly daft which is why it works so well.

She's so clever
And if she's mad - it totally resonates with ME
She's hilarious during interviews!

I don't think she meant to be that savage, but with his arrogance, it landed beautifully.
She never means to be savage but always is! Frigging love her.

what arrogance???
He doesn't looks arrogant anywhere.
maybe you should watch the mirror
What arrogance? She wasn't even being serious, she said she was joking. Maybe you should watch the full videos for the proper context so you don't look pathetic
She literally said she was kidding in the next frame... watch the whole thing before going after a brilliant actor
I just want to see Meryl Streep in every show, she’s so sharp and witty but charming while she does it
She is the queen of the screen. Amazing actress and love every interview with her.
And he made the mistake of underestimating her.
Exactly. The fact that she was younger than he was meant (to him) she couldn't possibly know anything, right? Even though she's been acting since she was 6?
I don't think he underestimated Meryl Streep, I think maybe he just didn't see his note giving as the same as ones he received.

As someone who works in the film industry, I hate when an actor thinks that they are too big for notes. It’s so toxic.
But notes from the director and notes from a co-star with the acting chops of Drew Barrymore are two different things, though...
@@Snowshowslow "Even a dead clock is right twice a day." So even an actor one considers below them may have some genuinely good advice every now and then.
@@janemary8339 True and it would be great if he would be willing to listen, but I don't think he's failed as a human being if it annoys him.
Notes are fine. From the director.
@@Snowshowslow if she's trying to build an intimate connection with him on screen, suggestions/notes should be welcomed if it makes the scene work better. My question is, why is HE so far above recieving notes from a fellow actor??
That's incredibly arrogant- something he's been accused of many times.
Hugh Grant: perfectly comfortable GIVING notes, hates taking them.
Meryl was joking. They cut off the part where Meryl says she's joking.
Also, he's friends with Drew Barrymore and he was on her show where they talked about that time they made out in the middle of a packed restaurant.
And she delivers the line in one of her British accents. Makes it even funnier.
That’s not a British accent lol
@@PsychesFlora
Is just a tag question, indeed!
But, she spoke in a way like they do, didn't she? 😅😅😅
@@daubipiccoli No… only if you have no ear for accents. I don’t know why so many Americans think that a British accent is just an American accent but pronounced succinctly. To us it just sounds awful. And miles from accurate. If someone tried to pass that off as British it would be like…… we wouldn’t even realize that’s what you were doing.

Meryl is INCREDIBLE. The things this woman must’ve gone through in the industry throughout the years? I’d drop bank to hear about it.
Her boyfriend, at the time, died when she was just starting as an actress.
Yeah was best friends with weinstein I'd imagine there was plenty she saw her bestie do and swept it straight under the carpet
Sexual harassment, mysogynistic pigs , disgusting advances .. basically all the things males do

To drop bank ?
She handed him a swift slice of humble pie.
Meryl is the bomb! LOVE her wit & brilliance. Such a perfect clap back!! Hilarious.
I don't know if I trust anyone who makes Drew Barrymore cry
True. You'd have to get past her outer armor first; I would imagine that she's the proverbial "one tough cookie".
@@roberthamill1277I don’t think she’s tough at all, she wears her heart on her sleeve. She’s so genuine and open that’s why he made her cry.
Drew Barrymore cries half the time. The other half, she's laughing. She wears her heart on her sleeve.
@@007Julie I think she's tough and she shows her emotions.
Why was she giving out notes though….?🤔
Sounds like she was pretty driven for the project to be a success….and maybe overstepped her bounds
Love Hugh Grant more now for his natural aging look and his hilarious British sarcasm and humor.
Meryl Streep literally re-invent the conception of QUEEN every very moment she speaks her mind 🤩🤩🤩
👍🏼
"mad as a chair" oh I'm stealing that 😆
So, his opinion of all the actresses he's worked with is: Crazy, or Hates me. Interesting.
There does serm to be one common denominator.
He's prolly kidding. I've never seen him be serious once.
It's called a joke

I love Graham Norton's show. You get a better look at how celebrities are, Meryl had a good time and answer.
Best host, best talk show. Hands down.
She is a queen 😂
What a nice way to get Hugh down a notch, he was lost for words. Meryl is a cut above the rest... Beautiful, sharp, talented and with loads of personality ❤
Love Meryl's response. Understated. Great sense of humour! 😉
Meryl Streep is a first class actress. She was priceless in The Deer Hunter.

Though don't let her sweet demeanor deceive you. She's considered one of the greatest living actresses after all.
I don't think so.
He's a well known misogynist. No wonder all the women can't stand him lol
They do. She was teasing him. They're friends in real life. He's also friends with Drew and she's had him on her show multiple times, including one where they talked about making out for 10 minutes in the middle of a crowded Soho restaurant.
she clarified it was a joke; He didnt actually give her acting notes. See the full video of the show.
Or not a good relationship that’s why she slammed him 👋 slapped him haha
She was so quiet and Bamm! "I took it very well" 🤣🤣
The absolute cheek of anyone giving Meryl Streep notes on acting 😂
Meryl was of course joking but Hugh would definitely be the type of person to give notes on acting to a legendary actress like herself.
What she was actually saying was that she's received notes her entire career and learned from them. Which is why she's considered one of the best of all time. That's why Graham reacted like that and Hugh seemed shocked. She basically swatted down his ego so fast that whole room had whiplash. Absolutely EPIC read.
@@ajay1589thanks for clarifying. Sometimes, I can‘t get beyond the literal meaning of something and it bothers me so much when I don‘t get the underlying implication so this is much appreciated 🙏

Meryl and Hugh played husband and wife in the movie that was a true story maybe he gave her a note . . . 😂
Drew Barrymore did like him; he said she sent him a really lovely note during the Divine Brown debacle when most of his friends ignored the turmoil he was going through.
That was 10+ years before they worked together, tho, and all the more reason for him to try harder at “playing well with others”.
She knew how it was to be outcast for bad behavior, so she empathized with him.

Someone says that every woman they have worked with is either crazy or hates them, get out. Something is up
Yuppp it’s a big red flag. Same as someone saying all their exes are crazy. There’s no way theres something wrong with everyone else and it’s never your fault. If you’re the common denominator, it must be _you_ that’s the problem!
Not really. Have you met women? They are awful to work with and even worse to be around. Only advantage is sex.
Except that Grant didn't say any such thing. He was presented with a comic setup by someone else, so women who didn't fit that setup would have excluded from it.
You're maybe assuming crazy is an insult or a bad thing. It's a bit of a Britishism but we do often say things like "They're crazy and I love them for it."
Also us Brits are very self-deprecating and will think someone hates us for no better reason than because we took the last biscuit from the tin.
