    All I see is how disappointing it is that all these unfinished zones never made it into the game.
    I mean I doubt a TON of work went into them, but clearly they had a base concept and layout for many zones and instances, never to be seen other than this I wish there was a version for Rift/LOTRO Tyria3D.

    • @hardy83
      @hardy83 Před 9 lety +3

      Possibly.Though my personal guess is that the LS will be used to slowly bring up the next dragon, assuming we kill the one in HoT.
      It would be nice to go back and deal with Zhaitan in proper form, or at least the aftermath properly.

      ***** That would be brilliant! Orr is beautiful, especially when you see bits after the cleansing rituals, when I got to that part I wished you could see more of it restored after the dragon is killed, and it would make a nice extra goal after the main storyline.

    Sorry for the wall of text... I'm not versed in the lore of GW1 and my theories are half baked but I honestly believe that we will get this map in the future. Most likely a living story near the end of the Mordremoth arch. I believe we will find out that the only way we can put down an elder dragon is if we use the power of another dragon to fight it. The purification ritual done by Trehearn was tainted with the rogue power of Mordremoth found in the silvari, thus allowing us to defeat him. Once we figure this out, I figure we will have to go into Zhaitan's corpse to find a core or egg of some type to overpower Mordremoth because they are magical opposites of each other. Once under control the people of Tyria will use Mordremoth's power to go after Kralkatorrik because of another magical opposite (organic vs. crystal). From there my theories splinter into several directions that they can take it but I am leaning towards quaggan being deep sea dragon spawn and in an attempt to make a quaggan advanced enough to do a ritual against Primordus, much like the purification that Trehearn did against Zhaitan, one will be placed in the mind widening device and we will get the quaggan equivalent of Scarlet. All speculation on my part.

    Great video, WP! But what if the dragon we see is not Zaithan, but a minion or a former version of him, and that it was a trophy of Balthazar from the time he slained it (this is why we would go into the fissure and ask him for his help to kill Zaithan, maybe by forging a super weapon with the anvil or so)? I don't know, but I am convinced this was actually going to be the Fissure of Woe and that Balthazar was going to play a role, maybe by helping us salin Zaithan (so the ending would have been an Elite Zone rather than a laim dungeon story mode). Or my second theory would be that Balthazar or his brother somehow took Zaithan's body for their purposes, and that for some reason we would have to take it back (so the Elite Zone would get us to Balthazar's brother or to Balthazar himself). What if...?

I didn't spend a lot of time there, but I don't remember seeing remains of Zhaitan, but it would be cool if that was in there somewhere (unless I missed this). Crazy to think they were thinking about this so long ago.

  • @Fin0fLenster
    @Fin0fLenster Před 9 lety +1

    Given the layout at some points I think it's pretty clear we're looking at the Fissure of Woe there. My best guess is that it was a pre-launch concept map for the area that never ended up getting fleshed out and was dropped for other things. I doubt the dragon we see here is actually supposed to be Zhaitan or any elder dragon in particular that we know about, rather I think it was supposed to be something else like maybe the Bone Dragon we saw with the Priest of Menzies in GW1 Fissure of Woe, then its model was changed up and used for Zhaitan later on in development.
    It's hard to say for sure with regard to some things, but that sure as hell looks like it was the Fissure of Woe. I definitely had a gleeful moment there when you exited the spider cave and the layout was clearly that of GW1 Fissure of Woe.

    So many memories of Underworld and Fissure. Got my lighting bow in Underworld, and my Obsidian Armor for my Male Monk. Really hope we get some more GW1 reference stuff. Maps and such. I loved this season of LS because of the story stuff with Glint and all. I was hoping when I first got this game that they were going to do a "sands of time" kind of thing, where you would go back in time and re-play events from the first game that either we only heard about (like fighting alongside Gwen and helping her out, or being there when Orr was destroyed) or things we could do again. (Like fighting Abadon again, or battling the Charr to allow Prince Rurik to flee Ascalon) Even before playing GW2 I pictured it like an Asura, this sweet innocent Asura, builds a Time Machine and keeps getting sent back in time and we have to 1. Make sure the events of the past still play out as they did i.e. let Prince Rurik die. And new maps consist of this Asura keep trying to fix her machine, only to get sucked back into another important event that risks so much if they play out differently. (Witness Destiny's Edge against Krag? At the end you can watch Krag and Glint have an epic brawl as you stand back, watching from a peak off in the distance?) Seeing this makes we wanna play GW1 more than GW2, but sadly it is so barren. Here's to hoping I guess.

    I'm always wondering how people imagined the Zhaitan fight. I didn't like it as well but I can't really imagine it beeing different.
    I mean you are one single person. You didn't reunite the 3 orders for no reason. The entire army hadn't been for no reason. We are still talking about an Elder Dragon. Do you just want to walk up to him and cut off his toe until he bleeds out?
    I think it had to end like this kind of fight. Maybe they could have done better, but I personally can't imagine it right now.
    For your next walkthrough: Could you maybe compare the location of the dragon corpse with the GW1 location?
    Thank you for this awesome video. It makes me believe that one day my GW1 fanboy heart will be satisfied.

  • @otla1
    @otla1 Před 9 lety +1

    Maybe this has something to do with the Abaddon Fractal?
    Menzies was trying to usurp power from Balthazar and gain control of the Fissure of Woe. To fight Balthazar, he aligned with Abaddon and Dhuum. So perhaps the fractal would have us once again defeating the shadow army?
    We would have to assume that there was preliminary work done on the two fractals which we had to vote on (the Abaddon Themed one for Evon Gnashblade, or the Thaumanova Reactor for Ellen Keil). This seems like it might be enough created that they could extrapolate a story and create assets should it be selected (which would explain the use of current in-game assets rather than old or recreated GW1 assets).

    This is so cool! A map like the FoW is exactly what GW2 needs. That map takes at least 2 hours to do with an in-optimal party and the rewards were definitely substantial. I'm crossing my fingers we get something similar.
    As for Zhaitan, I've always thought it would be awesome to finish Zhaitan off after we blast him out of the sky. The Glory of Tyria could've set us and Destiny's Edge down and we'd pound Zhaitan's head. I've pretty much accepted that as head canon. XD

In the GW novel Ghosts of Ascalon main character Dougal Keane is under DR exploring some tombs, looking for an artifact made by Blimm called the Golem's Eye. The artifact when found made a big bone golem and cause the tombs to collapse. I'm curious if perhaps that there was a map that goes under DR that was not released that connects the Great Collapse to Queensdale?

    I wouldn't put the blame for early release on NCSoft alone. Honestly, playtime was over and they wanted a return on investment. After 7 years, something had to give. I think perhaps that the Mists themselves are affected by the defeat of Zhaitan. I think the end fight with Zhaitan was obviously finished and there would be more to that but I also think this map is fully in the mists and is the Fissure of Woe. I merely was changed by the defeat of Zhaitan, and Balthazar's realm absorbed Zhaitan's corpse and part of Orr with it.

  • @Prinskorv1001
    @Prinskorv1001 Před 9 lety

    That is definently FoW! The dragonhead could just be some dragon that has crashed there to add some new content to FoW. But it could also be Zhaitan that got teleported in some kind of way; maybe like you said WP that when he died magic was released and So on. Though I think maybe (if that is Zhaitan) when he disappear under the fog when you "kill" him he makes a last effort of trying to TP away and since he is halfdead he ends up in some random location which happend to be FoW.

    It is a FoW map on 100%. When you rotate that map in 360° you will get areas in the places, which we get in GW1. Also, I think that Zhaitan corpse was sealed in Fissure of Woe, in the fear, that he might rise again after long time.

  • @chillypenguin100
    @chillypenguin100 Před 9 lety

    I think this will ultimately be the hardcore content it will be the fissure of woe but a twist of collecting/destroying the essence of zhaitan. There is that weird section that looks like the brand and maybe it is? What if the crystal elder dragon wanted to come collect the remaining strength from zhaitans body to empower himself? Zhaitan has the power to interact with the mist and no doubt the other elder dragons do as well so what if its fissure of woe and zhaitans death created a rift to visit Fow for not only humans(which seems to be the reason why it would difficult lore wise to visit the mists if you werent human) but other elder dragons? If this is implemented it would provide closure on zhaitan, would provide challenging content to achieve obsidian armor and not only that but provide a twist to fow without feeling like a carbon copy.

We do know Jormag used Shaman to play in the mists, and supposedly Zhiatan was pulling souls from the mists, so they got some power there, but whether or not they go there after death isn't sure. Hell, Anet might pull a fast one on us and have ZHaitan wake up again.

    The map looks rather low quality, perhaps due to how Tyria 3d shows it.
    But this instance of the map looks more like a proof of concept rather than map they actually worked on for the game.
    As you explained, they reused for example gates from Ebonhawke and the shore looks very orrian.
    The plan was probably to build a proof of concept and see how it turned out and then make unique assets for it and finalize it to match the old game. And well.. perhaps that is a thing they restarted work on for hardcore HoT content.
    That forge may be how we finalize the HoT legendary weapons (and possibly also future legendaries, like armor). After all, the new legendaries will be more of a questy and adventurous build rather than the old way, so it could make sense.

    Just an idea but let's say Zhaitan wasn't dead. When he fell he was just weakened. The area was too dangerous to traverse at the time so they waited for the right time to check on the dragon's corpse. When they reach the dragon they find that while the dragon itself is asleep, trying to regain strength, parts of it are still alive and awake to defend itself. As the players you find the dragon's tail first and realize you have to make your way to its head to deal the final blow. You have to traverse Orrian ruins and take out various undead dragon heads on the way as well. Each head(s) have their own mechanics and even elemental types. By the time you reach Zhaitan's head you would have traversed an entire map to get to it, so it would give a great sense of scale to him and feel more epic imo.

    This is definately the Fissure of Woe for GW2. There is far too many coincidences for it not to be.
    My thoughts on this is that at one point they might have had you fight in to Zhaitan as you said and stab his heart and then when he dies it takes you into the mists with him. The characters would then walk out of his body and be in the Fissure of Woe. There you could forge something special here once you defeated the game and exit thru the spectral body of Zhaitan. Then you needed to fight your way back to the living lands which would be either at the beach or the village, perhaps.

    WoodenPotatoes quite a while ago you speculated that the dragons could hve something to do with the gods. So if zaithan was killed being the dragon that makes undead wouldn't it be kinda logical for him to appear in one of the gods realm(maybe zaithan actually has something to do with balthazar or it could have been another dragon that died)?

    Maybe someone already said it -same for reddit gw2 - but, to me, there is a higher chance that is FoW.
    If you look at the Mists, just like the Abbadon's kingdom, it takes place from the real world, and use it in the Mists.
    Zhaithan body could just be a permanent prison for him. After all, Arah was a City, a place chosen by Gods. It seems logical that it can be easy to get into the Mists, even more, into their Kingdoms from Arah (UW for Grenth, FoW for Balthazar).

  • @TRNFloyd
    @TRNFloyd Před 9 lety

    I'm 100% sure that that is Fissure of Woe. The layout is too perfect - albeit slightly off from GW1, but its the mists. I mean, GW2's Glint's Lair wasn't identical to the GW1 counter part, so we could chalk it up to creative freedom.
    The dragon head though. If its not Zhaitan, I'd like to believe its a Dragon Lich head. Other then the Dragon Lich, there was nothing else within the GW1 FoW that was dragon related. But it would be neat if it was Zhaitan. The game made it abundently clear that the human Gods moved on, but I could imagine Balthazar(or an acolyte) showing up and saying that the fight was good, but must continue. That Zhaitan was wrecking havoc in the mists and that they last spotted him in the Fissure of Woe.
    That probably would of been THE way to end the fight in my opinion. Man, that would've been awesome as well as a great throw-back to GW1 players!

    Am I the only one hoping one of the dragons are on our side? That or at least against another dragon? Imagine a Harry potter-esque fight where the deep sea dragon and primordial are fighting and we use that chance to dps the dragon but then the deep sea dragon has to recuperate in while it flies away we don't have to basically do a secondary objective or survive till its back with massive amounts of enemies coming at us.

      The elder dragons are supposed to be the main enemy of gw2.
      So I personally don't think we'll ever team up with one of them in order to defeat another one.
      But ofc we know that we kinda have an egg of glint so maybe the little dragon will then be on our side.
      But who knows who long it takes for an dragon to fully develop.

    At the very least i'd like a bit of Living Story explaining the current state of the Risen and Orr. Tequatl got a massive power boost what about the other Risen Lieutentants and what kind of sapience do they have? Could they regroup under a 'Zhaitan 2.0'? Tequatl got extremely powerful by absorbing some of Zhaitan's power and he was far away, what about the Risen that could actually touch his corpse? (If he even actually died, twitter announcements be damned I want in-game proof!)

    I think it's mostly a concept for the overall shape of the FoW map, and the assets form Orr and other places are mostly place-holder. Even the dragon head might just be a feature of the new design, instead of a corpse of an actual elder dragon.
    Buuuuuuuuut the inclusion of the Brand with the effects and all is a bit weird, so who knows. I wonder what the explanation for the Fissure suddenly having all these "modern day Tyria" features would be.

  • @Teraphas
    @Teraphas Před 9 lety

    I am still convinced that zhaitan is not dead. We dealt him a major blow. And they have recovered the tail we blew off. I forsee us finding out at some point what the "heart" of each of the elder dragons is and then it's of to destroy that to kill them for good. That their bodies are essentially constructs. Too much of edge of destiny left me with the impression that the sandstorm was much like snaffs golem. The elder dragons will end up being smaller beings with immense power.
    Would make for a much better series of battles. Break the Avatar of each dragon. While it's energies are dispersed and it's trying to assemble a new one we strike at the Heart and have a battle with something say the size of a giant or dinosaur.
    Would explain tequatal getting stronger too. Without its main avatar Zhaitan is funneling more of its power into tequatal. Possibly making a new avatar from it eventually.

  • @purpleisthesneakiest

    While I find this whole map awesome, I just have one problem with the theory on Zhaitan's passing into the mists....
    Why would Zhaitan, the Elder Dragon of DEATH (Or, more precisely, UNdeath) go to the Fissure of Woe, realm of Balthazar, God of WAR?
    Perhaps what one could be seeing in this map is a frightening new idea - that the Elder Dragons are sending their roots into the Mists. It would explain why the Shoreline is covered in Orrian Architecture, and an Orrian Transport ship, as well as why the head of a Dragon (One that looks eerily like early Zhaitan's head) can clearly be seen within. We already know that Elder Dragons can extend their power into the Mists - as we have seen with Mordremoth, both in his creating of the Pale Tree as well as sending the Shadow of the Dragon into the Dream - so why could it not be a possible "Invasion" of Zhaitan as he attempts to steal Balthazar's power for himself?

  • @TheIronDrapery
    @TheIronDrapery Před 9 lety

    Maybe this is the place in Orr where Balthazar lived, but when he left Tyria he went to the Mists, to a copy of his zone.
    EDIT: If this is in Orr we might see a fight between the Branded and the Risen, as we know from way before that they fight each other in the scavenger's causeway, and if this is some time after Zaithan's death it would make sense that the branded are attracted to the giant reserve of magic, aka Zaithan.

    My god, they could do a cool story about Balthazar stealing Zhaitan before he died in Orr and then he might have sucked his magic instead of getting that from bloodstone. We could have fissure of woe map with double boss fight of Balthazar and maybe last breath of Zhaitan. That could be so cool ... Even now i am not really satisfied with small chunk of fissure of woe in dragonfall, because we still dont know what is happening there!

  • @kalvinwike7264
    @kalvinwike7264 Před 9 lety

    Both theories look convincing to me.
    So, if this is FoW, maybe Zhaitan itself isn't just some 'ancient slumbering dragon that woke up' but actually a primal force from the Mists? For that matter, maybe all the Elder Dragons are actually just 'spirits' in the same vein as Bloodsong, Shadowsong, Pain, etc. from GW1. Maybe Zhaitan is the spirit of Death or something conjured up from the Mists....
    I mean, isn't there existing lore to the effect that the corruption in Orr would continue even past Zhaitan's death? That the corruption in its entirety could continue to spread (albeit slowly) unless the Pact continued to fight it?
    So maybe each elder dragon represents some conceptual aspect of reality from the Mists. Kralkatorrik could be a 'Spirit of Reality' or what have you, and warp realities around him and twist them about.
    Or maybe not.

    Zhaitan dies, releases massive amount of magic back into the world and it's so much that the mists start intersecting with reality, bringing the fissure of woe intersecting/merging back with its real world counterpart which Balthazar used as inspiration to create his realm.

    Well guys, that at the end simply cannot be Zhaitan himself, only because if it really is in the mists, then Zhaitan couldn't be there, because he died in Tyria. Even so, if it would be him, where is rest of his body? if you look carefully, there is nothing beyond the skull, no land, nothing to stand on, nothing to block players to go past it. That head is a statue, like, for example, in world of warcraft, there is a cave in northrend, whitch has it's entrance in a shape of a dragon's head, and this would be something similar, maybe an entrance to a dungeon, or very gate to this map. Just to be sure, that is not Zhaitan, and there is one more proof of that: in the trailer, there is no lava themed area around his head, just a wasteland of Orr, no cliffs nor magmatic pools.
