This song is from the movie "the rose" starring Bette. It's loosely based on Janis Joplin.
Anyone who has ever been in love can relate to this masterpiece, such a bittersweet song....
When it was released, The Rose elevated her star so much. She was asked to sing "The Wind Beneath My Wings" at a memorial soon after 911.
Bette Midler had it all. Enormously talented singer and performer, a very good actress, she could have done pretty much anything but unfortunately didn't have the looks of an ingénue. As she got older it didn't matter so much and she embraced the character actress label. On stage, though, as a cabaret performer her wit and charm came through, and that's where she really shined.
She is one of the best EVER to play "Mama Rose" in Gypsy. I guess roses are lucky for her!
Bette and singing this songs brings me to tears always
As always, Sarah, my thanks. This gave me the resolve to record this track with my backing guitar cut in, as a gift to my daughter. ❤
I love Bette Middler ❤and this Song too 🌹
Bette Midler is a great actress, comedian & singer spanning 5 decades. She has won a lot of awards in many fields. She has had so many hit movies besides hit songs such as "Wind Beneath My Wings", "From A Distance", "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy", "Do You Wanna Dance?", "Friends" etc.
First Wives Club, Outrageous Fortune and The Rose (my personal fave) movies.
I absolutely love this song!!
I loved the movie ❤ I love the singer and the actress
Hi Sarah love watching your reactions! ❤️ I would love to see you react to Tammy Lynette "Till I Can Make it on My Own" she was an amazing talent that was lost to soon
There's a reason she's known as The Divine Miss M. :)
You should check out the studio version -- it's so pure
I think I heard this song in 1966, sung by Lorraine Ellison? Not sure, it was long ago.
Gr8 movie❤ "THE ROSE"
Not sure it is the best version of it but I have loved this song for more than 30 years! Polupar slow in France in the 80s.
The following link is from an older performance, it's the best performance I know of this song. The video quality is not great, but the performance, the way she sings it, this is 'the one': czcams.com/video/m0CvciW9AkQ/video.html
Take a look at this one from her (and The Staggering Harlots) "BETTE MIDLER - Chapel Of Love (live) (From 'Divine Madness') (1981)" its not on CZcams its on Dailymotion
This was Done my Conway Twitty. You should listen and compare
I remember the film being quite good.
You should watch the movie
Beautiful, but her original, younger voice is measurably better.
Great reaction! Bette is a national treasure. Her talent knows on bounds.
Here is a lovely song that I play a lot. Give it a listen and I bet it will put a smile on your face.

Wynett I hate auto correct
I wonder why she sang about a rose instead of a Korean Spice Viburnum, which is far more rare and scintillating. Probably too long. Maybe next time.
Beautiful song, packed with salt water.
Because this song was written as the theme for the movie "The Rose", about Janis Joplin. Also, nothing rhymes with "viburnum".
personally I prefer The Rose sung by the author of the song. Amanda Mc Broom.
please, video bigger and sound louder!
If it was bigger I’d not be allowed to post it
The song is great but she is NOTHING!!!
Go away.
TROLL!
Her original hit version will always be the absolute best.
