  • 1990 Town Hall Meeting with Nelson Mandela of South Africa.
This meeting, held in New York and chaired by Ted Koppel of ABC Networks, formed part Nelson Mandela's first visit to the USA immediately following his release after 27 years in prison.
Much of the meeting focused on Nelson Mandela's advocating of sanctions against Apartheid South Africa, his support for the Palestinian Liberation Organisation (PLO) as well as his close friendship with Yasser Arafat (of Palestine) and Fidel Castro (of Cuba).
It is important to note that this meeting took place in 1990, long before the world embraced Nelson Mandela or the ANC, yet, even then, Mandela stood firm and resolute on his and the ANC's policies even though it could have "hurt" his and the ANC's "image", for example his support for the Palestinian and Cuban people.

My fave moment is when Mandela says to Koppel…58:05 - perhaps the most awkward moment of silence ever… where Mandela flips the script on Interviewer/Interrogator King Koppel and asks that question "I don't know if I have paralyzed you." LOVE THAT.
Audience erupts.. and then Mandela calmly winks to the audience indicating... "I got this." They shake hands and move on. Nice.
Mandela's control of anger, righteous indignation, and frustration with ignorance and ideologies is unlike any I've ever seen. Amazing.

With the death of Nelson Mandela, the world has lost one of its great moral leaders and statesmen. Mr. Mandela was imprisoned for 27 years by the former Government of South Africa, for his part in the struggle that would ultimately end the system of apartheid. Despite his long years of captivity, Mr. Mandela left prison with a heart closed to calls for a settling of scores. Instead, he was filled by a longing for truth and reconciliation, and for an understanding between all peoples. He demonstrated that the only path forward for the nation was to reject the appeal of bitterness. His forbearance was legendary: his magnanimity spared all South Africans incalculable suffering. Nelson Mandela's enduring legacy for his country, and the world, is the example he set through his own 'long walk to freedom.' With grace and humility, he modelled how peoples can transform their own times and in doing so, their own lives.

      Bullshit. Mandela was a Communist.
He murdered anyone that disagreed with him.
Cutting of the noses of the females and/or burning them alive, Necklacing.
“Communists everywhere fight to destroy capitalist society and to replace it with Socialism, where the masses of the common people, irrespective of race or colour, will live in complete equality, freedom and happiness. They seek to revolutionise society and are thus called revolutionaries. Those who support capitalism with its class divisions and other evils and who oppose our just struggles to end oppression are called counter revolutionaries.” ~ Nelson Mandela

So he was a communist, big deal. He certainly didn't implement communist policies in S. Africa when he became president. He cut a deal with the capitalist class in S. Africa which ended legal apartheid and implemented neo-liberal economic policies. Now just at S. Africa today and see the results of the economic policies the capitalist class demanded, it's worse than 30 years ago for a large part of the population.

His wife Winnie-whom he divorced in 1996-had during the 1980s advocated that turncoats be punished by “necklacing”-execution by placing a gasoline-filled tire around the victim’s neck and setting it alight. She was later convicted of participating in the stabbing of a young black activist who was suspected of being a police informer.”

AnotherBoringWeek I didn't deny mandela was involved in terrorist activities, anyone with any knowledge of apartheid would know this.
But because a white supremacist kangaroo court tells us he advocated cutting off peoples noses for dissenting isn't great evidence it's true now is it?
But what's your larger point here? Mandela was a soldier in a struggle against a brutal regime who commited terrorist acts in response to brutal terrorist oppression, like millions before him and after him all over the world.

Barry B. S.A. is NOW the CAPITOL OF THE WORLD...... for RAPE...AND.... MURDER. It's socialist regime has made the country worse then it ever was. His 2nd wife ENJOYED ....."NECKLACING"..... and actually did this to a 14yr old boy. she was known to have done this REPEATEDLY. IT MEANS...... WRAP....BARBED WIRE AROUND THE PERSON'S ENTIRE BODY.......PUT A TIRE OVER HIM...... FILL THE TIRE WITH GASOLINE...... AND LIGHT IT.. The FACE MELT'S down the SKULL.... the EYEBALLS "POP", from the heat. the victim scream's in agony the entire time..... THIS IS WHAT TYPE OF PERSON MANDELA MARRIED. JUST because he has a good SMILE doesn't make him a good person.

So youre saying terrorism is always wrong?
I think you need to re-evaluate your understanding of history and what you champion and benefit.
Find me 10 famous political people you admire who weren't able to be classified as terrorists.
You do understand what terrorism is right?
