Awesome job Brah! You did great for your first go around! Don't worry, people that have been paddling for YEARS still lean on the Ama way too much. Honestly the biggest thing is just getting back in and not being intimidated. Everything else can be learned. Have fun!

Find a video on using your paddle as a brace on the right side when needed. Get up a little speed with the paddle on your right side. Hold the blade almost flat on the water and add some pressure. You’ll feel the water pushing back and realize the pressure will keep you from a huli. Always wear a leash. Strap an extra paddle to your rear iako just in case you break yours or lose it. I wear a pfd. Some don’t but Id at least strap one to the canoe. Good job and have fun.

Awesome. Time on the water is what my friend told me when I first started. You’ll get better and better each session. Always challenge yourself. Enter novice races as you get comfortable, paddle with people that are better than you. You won’t regret it! Just have fun and stay safe.

That is truly awesome. Love the positive approach, and enjoy the journey. It is well worth a few hulis.

Also, safety pointer, try not to put your foot on the ama when remounting yourself back in the canoe. Could pop off of you could damage it.
