      This is from 2011. Federer is supposedly about 3 yrs past his prime and people were talking about him retiring. Even Borg said he thought RF would retire in 2012. This guy has been so good for ao long. It’s insane! In the semis RF would play one of his best clay court matches ever and beat Djokovic.

    Roger draws so much attention and focus from the crowd. You can feel they are in it from the get go because at every second you might be able to see a shot you havent seen before. Its really watching an artist at work

    It was one of those slams where Roger was in the zone, was playing perfectly, but still didn't win. Clearly one of the best not won slams by Roger along with Wimbledon-2008 and 2019 and probably Aussie Open-2009, also US Open-2009 comes to mind

    Roger was in terrific form throughout that 2011 tournament, up until he hit that drop shot at 5-2 against Rafa. The wheels then came off

      Rafa’s game on clay is so disruptive to Roger’s rhythm. Roger tried many times, losing in 2005, 06, 07, 08, 11, and 19.

    Federer and Wawrinka met 4 times at Roland Garros, in 2010, 2011 and 2019 Federer won, but in 2015 it was Wawrinka.

    There is a simple reason why Federer does not struggle against Wawrinka. It's because Federer attacks the ball a lot and doesn't give Wawrinka time to attack back. Djokovic on the other hand cannot attack as well, which makes him vulnerable to Wawrinka's attacks.

      It's all about matchups against one another in tennis...and everything about federer jus doesn't suit Wawrinka...horrible matchup for stan...
      By the way, in 2015, stan was absolute beast..he could have beaten rafa as well...

      Federer also has a bit more variation than Djokovic. He delays the rallies more with his slice. Djokovic gives Wawrinka more room to get into a certain rhythm.

    Rafan here, but I gotta admit this is the best version ever of Roger Federer on clay. I never forget his semifinal match against Novak. Just pure beauty of aggressive game. And he even went on toe-to-toe with Rafa in the final, it's just Rafa's speed and topspin were still in form.

    This was my favorite tournament that Roger did not end up winning. Man I don't think he has ever played clay court tennis at this level. If only he would've capitalized on those chances in the first 2 sets in the finals, uh..

      I think it's sort of similar to this year's USO final. Whenever Djokovic broke his opponent, he would use that momentum to beat his opponent. Djokovic had three break points in the second game of the second set. If he had pushed that ball down the line, he would've broken Daniil and maybe that momentum would've allowed him to win, but we'll never know.

    Many countries would be proud if they'd have a player like Stan The Man. He he has fought countless of epic matches and he has the most beautiful and effective backhand in the history of tennis.
    Swiss should be more proud of him too, although there is the other famous Swiss Tennis player... ;)
    I'll never forget those 2 playing together and winning gold at the Olympics Bejing 2008.

    Roger really should have won it that year. Beat peak Djoker in the semi with a masterful display. Was 5-2 up on Rafa in first set of the final with a set point, but then the old demons took over - lost the set 7-5, and the next...he rallied to win the 4th but Rafa closed it out in 4 sets.
