I owned a Basenjii (with a little something else mixed in). She was a fantastic companion. Very funny, intelligent and fiercely loyal. Her sense of humor was, for a dog, downright witty. Sadly, she is no longer here, but dogs are blessings in our lives. (My cat doesn't know I'm writing this...)

Congratulations beautiful greyhound for Best In Group winner! So richly deserved. As a greyhound owner myself I am probably biased, but that girl is absolutely stunning. So thrilled for the beautiful Whippet coming second, and the Pharaoh Hound third. Three stunning hounds, worthy winners indeed.

@@brendagore1115 Definitely, honestly I believe that the sport either needs to be vastly changed and more regulated, with more monitoring in regards to where the dogs go after they retire but also while they are racing be treated with far better care than many of them receive.

I think out of all the hound breeds, the Dacshund has to be the most popular and common, followed by the Beagle. Dacshund's are everywhere. Beagles have become very popular now, 10-15 years ago I hardly saw any. Afghan Hounds you are only ever likely to see in some posh area where people have alot of money and acres of garden, same with large hounds like the Wolfhound.

Love the Bloodhound, a very rare and underappreciated hound breed. Why are they so rare/uncommon?. You see Basset Hounds and Beagles (in the last 15 years or so Beagles have become very popular, I would rank them in the top ten most popular dog breeds they are so common now), but Bloodhounds you'd be lucky to see any. I'm not keen on the look of the breed now, not the example shown, because to me they have lost alot of that familiar Bloodhound loose skin and wrinkles and the larger head that we used to see in the breed, probably down to foreign import breeding. I noticed no bloodshot eye that we often see with the breed. I think Frank Kane realised he shouldn't have mentioned Clement Freud when talking about bloodhounds...hmmm I wonder why.

Why oh why doesn’t any big dog shows like crufts and Westminster ever choose the Irish wolfhound for best In show I’m not positive but I don’t think they have ever gotten best in show in either dog show ever and that’s a damn long time. Are they against them have they been black listed for some reason yes I’m biased but I think the Irish wolfhound is the best dog out there hands down they should at-least give them props for being such an old old breed first written record 391bc was cared for by st.Patrick they really are the dinosaur of the dog world they are even put together a bit differently than all the rest of dogs so cut loose with whatever gripe you have with the IWH and start making them best in show you all owe them for ignoring them for so long and they need recognition so maybe scientists will become interested in saving the breed via introduction of some ancient IWH’s dna from a viable archeological sample something around 500-600 yrs old would do it I think it would go along way to save them and help with longer life span and less cancers and heart issues and kind of a shot of new blood into their breed as they stand now they are bottlenecked and their future isn’t looking great. It would be a damn shame if in say 60-70 yrs from now there wouldn’t be anymore of these wonderful dogs these ancient dinosaur dogs we need them and they need help so reintroduce them to the world responsibly and enjoy the great Irish wolfhound

These dogs are placed based on how well they fit their individual breed's standard. It isn't a popularity contest. And considering how many dogs are entered into this show, the competition is large and fierce. I'm not 100% sure how it goes in the UK, but in AKC shows it goes: Breed ring -> Best of Breed goes into the Group ring -> First in Group goes on to the Best in Show ring -> Best in Show and Reserved Best in Show are chosen. Out of hundreds of dogs, only ONE can be BIS

@@catherinelynnfraser2001 but there are other breeds that are a combination of breeds bull mastiff for instance also there are a few revived breeds that are akc ect I’m sorry to be seaming to argue with people but if the breed is good enough to be registered then it’s good enough to win(obviously if/when he/she meets all of the criteria)but they are my breed my dream which I realized and that makes me even more pro IWH I’ve even suggested to a few scientists and IWH health groups and groups that want to save the breed that they find some viable dna from and IWH from say 500 years or more ago and introduce it into the breed and that should help a little bit in the breeding bottleneck they have and I truly hope they are looking into it as the loss of this breed would be such a shame besides breaking my heart and I really do feel a couple best in shows at these two prestigious shows might give a little impetus for saving the breed they are one of the oldest breeds written record appears in 391bc the Saluki considered oldest appears in329bc it’s important that these ancient breeds be saved thank you
