We lived in Garden Crescent in the early 1970s when I was serving in the RN, it was our first home together. We visited Plymouth this year for the day from Paignton where we were holidaying so we had a lovely stroll down the Hoe to West Hoe and it brought back some good memories. Plymouth was always a favourite of mine and is still a fine City.

Great to see Sir Francis Drake on Plymouth Hoe .Used to visit his statue in the 50s as a child with my grandad an old seafarer and veteran of The Great war and battle of Jutland .where he served on the capital ship HMS Devonshire .The Devonshire carried Drakes Drum which was beaten whenever the Devonshire cleared for action. .She got very badly damaged at Jutland and could well have gone down .The loss of Drakes Drum would have been a national disaster so henceforth a replica of Drakes drum sailed on the Senior Devon crewed Navy warship .However this was kept secret as it was feared that superstitious seamen would consider the substitution of a replica drum a very bad omen and bringer of bad luck . Anyhow that’s the eye witness story my grandad told me .True or false it’s a great tale .Don’t ever let any one ever even think of removing EL Draco, as my Spanish friends call him ,from his rightful place on Plymouth Hoe .cheers
wow this is beatiful i live in the united states east coast philadelphia and i have friends in ply hoe are donna and terry brenton trying to reach them .....any advice ? we went to cancun toghther and lost email address and facebook help
