Welcome aboard
I had the privilege of meet Jonathan after a show in Chicago just before the” It’s Time for “ album was released. He was very excited about it. I have fantastic memories of that night, he was fun to hang with. I remember at one point he pulled up his guitar and I recognized pickups on the guitar were originally colored was silver, he thought they would look cooler as gold so he took a yellow magic marker to them. I thought that was funny as hell. We shared a laugh. We went to a bar Called the Bucket of Blood after that-the memories get a little blurry at that point.
My good friend Mike Mcardle was with me that night, he has since passed, but that was a major bonding evening. RIP Mike. I think of you often.

I saw Jonathan at a live gig at The International in Manchester in 1986 just after the release of this album. He had a hard act to follow having been preceded and supported by the monumental Frank Sidebottom. He was however not upstaged by the late, great Frank (and Little Frank of course). He did a totally acoustic set, him and his band members drumming on their guitars with their hands for percussion. They were absolutely brilliant. Just before the gig, when the place was still fairly empty, he appeared alone on a large, empty dance floor dancing to records in a world of his own, just enjoying himself.
An endlessly interesting and entertaining artist who always deserves a listen and I was privileged to see him perform live twice.
Saw him in the 80's at Shank Hall in Milwaukee. Jerry Harrison was in the crowd. On a break, Jon and Jerry shook hands and hugged. Was indelibly stamped in my brain. Few years later saw Belly, where I stood right in front of Tanya Donelly. Gepetto!
This one is the first song that i heard from Jonathan some 20 years ago and i fell in love with his music. From then is my absolute artist my number 1 music...my medicine when i'm not in the mood...I had the chance to see him only once in my town in Greece..and i told him these few words...." Thank you for every song you have wrote, for being part of my life"..........

When I was younger & I heard this song in Kingpin I thought he said I want them to put back my old cornerstone lol. I love this song though.

We need a page/blog just for good personal corner store stories. I grew up in Levittown LI in the 70s to 80s, and my "corner store" that I miss dearly is the original 5 and 10 Cent. store that used to be the cornerstone of the shopping center at Newbridge Road and Levittown Parkway, which was the usual combination hardware store, sundries, drugstore, sewing shop, toy shop, paperback rack, candy store, etc. It also had one of the best local Halloween costume depts., and that alone was reason enough to go in the season to get the best costumes and Halloween goodies, including the mandatory Wowee Whistle wax pan pipe orange All Hallows candies that tasted awful but were somehow compelling. Actually there was another corner stationery store down at Jerusalem Ave. across from Carvel that I also miss dearly, since it had a phenomenal magazine rack with Famous Monsters, Monster Times, Space Warp, and all sorts of monster mags. and stuff. I'd go there and buy all the monster mags. I could get and Everlasting Gobstoppers by the gallon and Red Hots! Heaven. I found out the stationery still stands but different owners and it was pretty lame.
I also fondly recall buying tons of those "Super Trooper" (sic) small parachute army men toys all the time, that would get stuck in the tree at some point, never to be recovered, yo-yos, Pez candies and dispensers, etc. I think I even once bought an actual fountain pen there later on, which leaked like a mutha. I believe this 5 and 10 closed its doors sometime in the later 80s but I'm not sure. All I know is it's gone now. Everyone went there and it was an institution, though it wasn't on the corner it was smack in the middle of the center. The corner store there was once the pharmacy, which was also great, and had a great paperback rack as well. When there's horror fiction on the rack, it's a good corner store. Bring it back.
Love this place listed. It's just missing some Modern Lovers. I'm just glad to say that I've had the privelage to see Jonathan 3 times in small clubs in Detroit and Ann Arbor
We still have Corner Shops here, not just places to store things, although we also have warehouses. Go, UK!

Not just weird honomym exgchanges like "bare" for bear", but "I don't expect you know" is definitely "I don't expect you all".
It was probably lyrics from an older version of the song, if you listen to the Modern Lover's early live album it has many differences in the lyrics compared to their studio album
