  • I want to share some special garden ideas, vignettes, and moments in today’s WW. This early in the morning, the light is still soft, the sun, not yet brutalizing, and sounds of children going to school come joyfully from all directions. Take a walk with me?

I am looking forward to the staging of the back yard step area . I know there will be pots coming down the steps... ala fairy tale back stoop. The guys did impeccable work on the bricks. I bet its hard to sleep with all the ideas swimming in your head! I was wondering, after the tomatoes are done.... will you ever make the front window box more uniform. I recommend some Autumn Brilliance Seviceberry trees around your bistro area in the front yard. They’re beautiful four season interest trees. They only get about 15 feet tall and the canopy is not very dense, so they provide dappled shade, perfect for a shade garden underneath. Beautiful fall color and the birds love the fruit. You’ll never see any mess because the birds eat the fruit before you can pick it! Amur maples are also great small trees with stunning fall color!

The timber fence along the western side is beautiful too. We have too many ghastly iron fences in Australia, I’m guessing because white ants are a problem here. Timber stays cooler and certainly looks so much better. Although you say it’s a utility area for storage and passageway from front garden to back I’m sure it will be lovely when you have put your gardening touches to it. ❤

Linda, pls don’t apologize for mentioning your temperature and high heat bc this TX gal has not experienced any breaks to 100• weather since June so your advice and plant details in this heat is invaluable. I’ve killed several May planted full sun shrubs in my 9a zone (1 abelia, 2 loropetalums and 3 encore azaleas) by either under watering or overwatering. I also killed 1 transplanted Juliet cleyera with the same weapon, water. I was spot watering the roots but not the ground around it and I suspect that had I evenly and deeply watered the whole flower bed then they would have survived. Pls continue to advise on all the ways to best protect plants in this terrible heat dome. Also pls advise on how often you are watering your front yard in consistent 100+ degree weather for months on end in full sun. I am watering 3x a week 10min each zone and only deep watering my established trees 2x a month.

Linda, I live in Northwest Florida and we've had an unusually hot summer here too. I set out 12 tomato plants and only got a few tomatoes. I had a lot of blooms but they never turned into fruit. Last week, I watched a CZcams video that said high temperature can make tomato pollen sterile. Have you heard this before?

She had turned it into a beautiful living plant wall with potted plants attached to the wall. It was beautiful. Have you thought of doing something like this on the fence by the west walkway? Looks beautiful despite record breaking heat. I know you mentioned in this video some of the plants doing well but canyou list all the plants that are thriving in this heat, like top 10. I live in Dallas so we have very similar weather conditions. My plants are all struggling. I have full sun exposure yard and patio.

I sure like the pretty pot of coleus and other things you recently potted up in the backyard. The spiral effect of the green and yellow edged coleus is spectacular.

Living here out in the low AZ desert, I have to giggle when I hear "We have had to live with extreme heat of around 101" ! Our EXTREME heat is WAY up in the 115 to 118 mark!!! Your garden is just so beautiful!!! Thank you for sharing

A wall garden would look lovely on the western fence and provide a nice view from dining room window. It's still quite chilly here in South Australia and I cannot wait for spring blooms on my native trees. Though likely I'll be sneezing like you. Also think some tall grasses billowing in the breeze and catching the morning light would look lovely at the front terrace. Lots of English gardens have these 👍👍❤❤

Do you have any plans for a fountain for the back? Great to mask traffic noise and provide a cooling effect.

Linda you have given me so much garden inspiration and I appreciate your videos very much. My question is.. Do you have plans to disguise that white drain cap that sits at the bottom of the beautiful back steps? It would have me crazy and I hope you plop in something beautiful to make it disappear.. again I love you and Stuart for helping my mental health via learning to garden ❤️ 😊

I am so jealous of your healthy plants and yard! Mine is so distressed this time of year here in Charlotte, NC. I just cannot water enough to make any difference. I am really amazed at your grass. How do you keep it so green in with your high temperatures? I have fescue which is a problem in the summer but lovely the rest of the year. I have lost so many plants this summer due to the heat and lack of rain. I am going to have to start from scratch in the fall. Boo Hoo!

The garden is still so pretty!!! I love the back steps, but I’m concerned about the plumbing clean out at the bottom step. Anxious to see how it is going to be made safer!❤

Can't imagine living or gardening in 100+ degree heat. No thank you! Love our cool temperature of low 80s. Able to walk and garden without dying!

I don’t understand how your yard can look so green and lush. I’m in the Dallas/Forth Worth area and it look like a dragon blew fire on my entire yard.😂
