'Living Big in a Tiny House' © 2017 Zyia Pictures Ltd - Jak na to + styl
when i was a kid, my uncle and i would spend the month of august every year living in a small wooden cabin with no running water, at first no electricity, and an outhouse. down the road was a lake. swim there everyday for a bath. for entertainment, i spent hours walking through the nearby paths through the woods. riding my bike down to a little one room shop to buy a coke. or bike into town a couple of miles and go to the library, get a stack of books and back to the cabin to read. eventually we had a wood stove. evenings we made dinner. it was perfect. and wonderful to experience. no need for phones. or computers or too many things. people nowadays are afraid to be alone with their own thoughts for more than 2 minutes. god forbid you have no mobile phone reception. a simple life is really beautiful.
You story made my night.
Mykel Hardin your name is “mykel” lmaooo
Mykel Hardin did your parents not know how to spell michael?
I got a Shasta.
When I was a kid.... Nevermind I'm not as good as you in making up stories.
I absolutely love how devoted and passionate this builder is about his houses. Incredible.
He has a great spirit and energy
shieroc this guy is a straight up pimp! Amazing !
This is more habitable than a college dorm room.
Even with the black mould!
@whole food i just tought about dorm~ when i saw the inside of the cabin. soulless.
Whole Food Plant-Based Man duh
For me ... More than a mansion
Wow, $800 for three years board?! Of course there was the intensive labor too, but I'd chalk that up to tuition for an amazing experience and education. Look where it's taken him. Amazing!
You're totally right! The experience that Jacob gained building this cabin has lead to so many more exceptional creations later in life. I have a feeling we will be seeing lots more incredible creations from him in the future. :)
Without a doubt! It's really neat to see his creativity. We're designing a house to build soon and while our design will be more conservative than his, the creativity is really stimulating our own ideas. Great fun!
One interesting design elements is his use of natural light, and windows. It really takes your mind off of the floor plan. He also starts distracting you from the "smallness" of the structure by using such creative details, and unconventional lines on the exterior, so by the time you enter the house, it is not just a small space. Great work.
Actually, I think of mainstream media as mostly a propaganda machine! It covers pretty much NONE of the good stuff worth hearing about!
I totally agree; it's brilliant!
This young man could change the way we build homes, live in them and appreciate what's left of our world.
Part of me wants to see more people living low-impact out in the forest, but as soon as you increase the number of people, you increase the problems.
Its not going to create problems unless ppl start polluting the place...most of tiny house people are very good in taking care of nature...as for me as long as they are not polluting the nature i guess just leave them alone...even animals in the forest poop and pee anywhere they pleases without causing damage....its fine for me as long as they dont pollute and attacking ppl...i guess we shud be more worried for people who are damaging living in towns or forests...
But he just walked away and left it there. He doesn't use it anymore. Now there's a structure sitting there, going to go to rot. It's going to take many decades for the Earth to reclaim it. Why doesn't he just dismantle it and repurpose the wood again for his needs now? Stop littering the forests with flash-in-the-pan shelters!
True. That's why i will never have a child. Complicated and unnecessary.
@@peradabanbaruindonesia1546 that was kinda random but I feel ya haha.
John Smith not to mention the fact that more people in these areas means it ruins nature 😢
I could see this channel becoming a show on the home network
Tiana Hartley ikr
I hope not, they'll ruin it 😅
Exactly.
@@lilmissmonsterrr I was thinking the same thing. I know that they put such an incredible amount of effort into these videos, but it's so cool knowing that it's my little secret to share with others. A big network might ruin it.
@@SR-oc7fc big networks ruin everything ☹️
The philosophy was so nice to hear that the footage of the building ended up being a lovely bonus, rather than the main event. Thank you for this enriching video.
You're very welcome Donnell! It was really great to dive into the philosophy of building with Jacob. He is one of those amazing can-do people who just gets stuck in and tries things.
All the videos you make are just amazing Bryce.. the people and houses are interesting to watch but I think it's you who brings out the best in everything!
Good work!
Thank-you so much Nakita! That's so nice of you to say. There is so much work that goes into creating these videos and it's always nice to know that it's appreciated. :) Thanks!
It kind of already is
Completely agree with nikita prabhu.
Yes! Love these videos!
Yeah, there's a lot of other UTubers posting content in this space, but Bryce has the charm that is.. well... Bryce? But being an ex-pat Kiwi maybe I'm biased?
Thoreau is proudly grinning.
irishmermaid 4 indeed!
This is amazing ima watch these videos all night long now
ONE OF US. ONE OF US. ONE OF US.
Luke Foster + LMBO 😂
Me last night. I literally fell asleep at 9.... AM.
These are cool huh
I just started and feel like I want to do nothing else in life #lordhelpme
I tell you what, it definitely gives new meaning to griping about bringing the groceries in from the car...
HLC Bahahahahaha
I love the different window shapes & how he's configured them into the cabin. I'm taking that into my own project someday. :)
It's one of the most interesting challenges of using salvaged materials. You are able to use what you find, and so the materials you are able to source will dictate the direction that the building goes in. Jacob has a great talent for working with odd materials but making them really work to form a cohesive looking structure.
He’s getting so much from his choice to live like this. Perfect example of less is more. The memories created money can’t replace ❤️
I'm so jealous of these places! As soon as I finish my studies at uni (2018-19) I'm going to begin saving up funds to move to Washington or southwest Canada so I can live in my own minimal size house. I'm only a couple of years off! I'm so close to achieving my dreams, I can almost feel myself being surrounded by the Pacific northwest woods and rushing water and fresh air.
That's awesome! Good for you. I can certainly say that this part of the world is one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited. 🙂
Living Big In A Tiny House
For sure! And I have friends who live in Oregon, pretty close to where I want to live, so I'm very excited.
Keep up the good work! I love these tour videos and the discussions you have with all of these wonderful creators.
Avery-Quinn Maddox awesome goal! Good on you 👍
kiwigirljacks
Thanks! A lot of work will be required, but I'm going to stick to it. c: I'll be there before I know it. I encourage all dreamers like myself to continue to dream until their dreams become reality.
Avery-Quinn Maddox i would like to hear more about your plans since my uni end is coming closer too - wanna share?
This guy is an artist! Must see his other cabins, they're beautiful. Bryce is such a great host!
I just love this one! Because it wasn't expensive, it feels like something attainable... it's definitely one of the best on the channel :)
Bryce, I have been a subscriber for a while now, and I always enjoy your "work". I know it is probably more of a passion, or the end product would not be so good. I just want you to know, you are one of my favorite shows of all time. That means you are up there with the great shows of the 60's-80's. I stopped watching TV in the late 80's since it was terrible, and has only got worse. Thank you for doing this. And cheers to the cabin builder, he rocks too.
Oh wow! That is such a wonderful compliment. I really love filming this series and feel very fortunate to be given insight into the lives of these incredible people. It's amazing to be able to take the audience along with me for the journey and I am so grateful to all of the viewers of the show. Thank-you so much!
Although the cabin is incredible and the man who made is is more than just ordinary imagination, it is Bryce who brings the interview to life. Thoughtful and relevant questions with the emotion to make it real. Both of you guys are amazing men. Thanks for sharing this.
I love the stories and the passions people like Jacob have for what they do. They inspire me to start on my own projects. Awesome video Bryce!
That's great Deja! So glad that you find inspiration in these stories. I would love to see more people getting out there and building their dreams. :)
The windows and their placement make this place wonderful. The shape of the roof is origami like. Charming home!
The angles..the glass!!! I WOULD LIVE THERE IF I HAD TO WALK IN TWO MILES!!! THIS IS WHAT I LOVE!!!!!!!
This is a kind of talent that people should support --- I hope he'll have more sponsors or even a reality show.
This channel is one of my favorite channels. lots of information about minimal living. Bryce is a great host and the more i watch these episodes the more i realize my own dream of living in a tiny house will come true.
Amazing! I'm sure it might not be an ideal location for most people, but the fact that the house looks like the part of nature is just awesome. Beautiful
The location would make living here very difficult for most people, you're right. For those who are willing to sacrifice though, the rewards of living here would be quite wonderful.
With every single video that you make, you inspire me to follow my dreams and live life like it was meant to be lived. Thanks a bunch Bryce! Absolutely love your videos and I make it a point to watch every single one of them. Can't wait to see what you do with your own tiny house! Cheers mate.
Pure bliss... to be surounded by nature , the smell and the sound of wood ... that little wood house reminds me of my friends houses / cabanes in south of France ... they live in the land of the Elf and enchanted Trees too☺️ freshness, friendship and happiness 🌸 thank you for the inspiration 🙏🏻
when he said you’re to think you’re looking out from inside a tree at other trees i was just amazed its wonderful
This video makes me feel tired of city life and want live in a cabin in a forest.
I love Jacob passion for building he's truly an artist 😊
I'm 14 and this channel gives me soo many ideas of where to live in a few years :)
Nah! You're 16 so please don't tell you are only 14.
There's no rush take you're time.
Hold that thought. Do not get trapped like the rest of us.
No matter WHAT your tiny home looks like, Bryce can always find an adjective to describe it without being negative! Bravo!
This is one of the best homes so far. Out in nature, relaxing, and with personal necessities. Love it!!!!
Just when I think I'm getting used to having my mind blown, bam, another video does it again. I'm subscribed to a lot of different things, but this channel brings me constant joy, wonder, and inspiration. Thanks Bryce and camera person! Thanks to all the people you meet, for being so generous with their houses and stories :)
I don't see why people see the negative in a different way to live. I think this is inspiring and outstanding that someone can build a cabin and live off grid like this. Once again Bryce you have found a gem.
Such a pleasure to see these awesome structures and shelters - keep up the amazing work, I'm still working through all the past stuff this channel has done. Amazing spirit and fantastic features and production value - great host as well! He really understands the spiritual tenants of this lifestyle...
Each video with Jacob makes me like him better. What a beautiful guy--his approach to building, life, people, just a beautiful guy. Thanks for posting.
*😍 in love 😍* awesome story and life philosophy!
Love it! Especially the windows in the corner
More Jacob please!! LOVE his work.
Jacobs awesome!
Bryce, I've been watching your videos for a couple of years now and I think your travels around America have produced some amazing stories. I get the feeling that upon your return to NZ your own tiny house adventure may be headed in a slightly different direction to what it was when you left and am looking forward to see where that direction takes you. Thanks for the wonderful and inspirational stories. Cheers
Upstairs is heavenly.
Great video content! Apologies for butting in, I would appreciate your opinion. Have you thought about - *WoodBlueprints. Com* It is an awesome exclusive guide for building better sheds and woodworking without the normal expense. Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my mate at very last got astronomical success with it.?

I love this cabin and the thought, salvaging, philosophy, and enormous amount of work and talent that has gone into it. Thank you for posting!
Jacob is quite talented in a natural way. Genuine. Thank you.
Oh man you are a genius ! You should be proud of yourself .
This is the future, American and western civilization has always made owning a big house with two cars and a large backyard the sign of success. When really its a sign of debt, we live in a society that has a system built from the 1950s culture that everything must be BIG, why we still do this is so weird to me.
Airik1111 it's all about the 💰. Sorry to say. We need to go back here!
It wasn't weird when we weren't overcrowded. It wa really nice. But that was back before computers, cell phones, electric cars, etc. We got bogged down with technology and then people from other countries started flooding in and overcrowding us. Our beautiful spacious homes started turning into ghetto shacks, neighborhoods crawling with goats and chickens and five families per unit with 15 cars...I live in a 50s housing tract. My home is 956 sq ft. I don't see how you can call that "large". We took pride in ownership, had room to breathe and knew all of our neighbors and everyone got along like a big family. You think it's weird because you didn't live it. You would have had a completely different mindset if you had. Everyone took care of their lawns and property but when the illegals came - three families per house, on average 10 cars per house and about 8 kids - it all went to dump. It's a third world ghetto now. And dangerous. No sleep with at least a dozen roosters crowing at 3am, cars starting, doors slamming, people yelling at 4am. Hundred of those shit eating little chihuahua dogs running the street, crapping all over your lawn, no place to park, garbage everywhere...and we didn't have dbt like you might think. One of these houses cost on average 10K. Mortgage payments were all of a $100 and even the after calculating the cost of living back then that was still pretty much nothing. It was reasonable. We didn't have Democrat politicians trying to implement socialism back then so we weren't being taxed and regulated into the stratosphere like we are today. Everything was reasonable. Gas and electric was all of about $4/mo, phone was about $2/month, water, garbage, car payment...everything lumped together would have been about $350/month. And rarely did anyone work minimum wage. So you can't really talk down about something you really don't know about. You're judging everything by today's standards and we have went to hell as a country today. It was unbelievably unrestricted and free back then.
You should listen to the album Good Nature by Turnover. The whole album is oozing about living one with nature and using less and living smaller.
Specifically in All That It Ever Was: "Since I was young I have been told how I should measure success. Work hard and you can have a life of luxury and excess."
Mansions and Palaces are a European invention
The sociological term is "conspicuous consumption." And now there's just a different conspicuous trend: spending money to compete and see who can be the greenest, including expensive solar, expensive technological water conservation, other things regular folks can't afford. Bill Nye and Ed Begley, Jr. have been doing it for years. Glad THEY can afford it. There are simpler ways to be green. Him skinny dipping is damaging to the creek. If he real,y wanted to be green, he could've set up a water collection system, the area looks like it gets rain. That wouldn't mess up anything natural in the area. If it's collected or passively oved aboveground, it can be warmed by solar in a black box and come into the shower by gravity outside the structure. He can even get simpler: fill a black garbage bag with water, hang it in a branch wheee it gets sun, poke a hole and shower. That thing is so tall that he could collect then draw up water onto the roof to be heated, the roof is metal and the sun hits it. He'd have to estimate how much weight in water the roof could bear if he uses that technique. Otherwise, just collect rain in rain barrels on the ground, that can be drawn with passive siphoning,
Bryce you're wonderful. Every tiny house you bring in your section is unique indeed but it's you who create magic to become spellbounded with it. Keep exploring. Thanks for the wonderful videos.
I am working in an extremely stressful environment of the financial markets. When the pressure gets tough, o always make it a point to watch Bryce's video - all New Zealand videos at that, why??? because Bryce's way of presenting these materials always have this unique energy that can touch one's soul. My life inside the world of the financial markets is the exact opposite of this life but seeing this always bring me back to my core. It keeps me GROUNDED. Living Big in a Tiny House channel always bring me back to my balance and I think that's what matters the most here. Thanks Bryce and to your team. Keep touching people's lives. 💞
What an exceptional guy! His cabin looks generic to the forrest yet special at the same time! Awesome😀
A beautiful, calm to it as if the intricate parts of the build are saying, 'peace, be still here'.
Namaste
Being in a place like this certainly does have a calming effect on you.
He is so handsome and that cabin is beautiful...amazing location too
Great escape from girls! 😉
I came here to checkout a tiny house in the woods, and after watching this, I'm contemplating about life! that's why I LOVE all your videos!
can't wait for more amazing content
I am Brazillian and i watch all the videos of this channel! I am 16 years and i love it! Congratulations!
I wouldnt to live this place because i need a Beach to live better
Thanks Rafael! And I do understand the need for a beach. I grew up by the ocean myself. Fortunately, there are lots of nice beaches to be found around Olympia. Best of both worlds. :)
I really like the way this guy approaches his builds. More as sculptures than buildings. Not too intrusive on area; in fact, blending in quite well. The fact he uses recycled materials and is able to get thoses results is a testimony to his genius level vision.
Well said! Using salvaged materials adds a bit challenge when it comes to building these kinds of structures. You need to work with what you can get!
I love all the windows!!
He has an artists eye of emotion, but can build with practicality.... a rare breed indeed.
$800.00 that's an awesome price for that cabin .
I love his honesty about the challenges of building the house and the access to and fro. Beautiful little home.
What a very pleasant young man, and not a lazy one either-- constant hauling over a river! Enjoy that youth & strength, they are wonderful gifts! Great imagination building upwards, a tiny wooden lighthouse in the woods, lol! 👍🏻All the best young man! 🐾🌈☮️🇨🇦
Plus awesome points for the AT-AT diagram shirt.
This is stunning!
Cheers!
Jacob is remarkable. I love his entire ethic. Very special indeed.
I’ve been binge watching this series for the past couple days now and this is probably my favorite. So much nature
Your videos help me fall asleep at night. I have insomnia due to my athritis.
Aldous Prime is that a back handed compliment?!
I can only see these videos and dream as of now.. that one day.. I'll be a happy person in my small self build home...
That cabin is amazing for $800! I also like both of your t-shirts since I'm a Star Wars and electronics tinkering geek.
jacob's and Phil Reimers' places have so much more 'wabi sabi' than the storybook cottage. but it is good to see the difference... and the cost! WOW
One more thing. Your response time is astounding
That tiny house has more heart than any other I've seen! Good Frickin Job!!!
I haven't seen ppl live like this since the 70's, kinda reminds me of the world before internet and technology. We actually got thru it.
My grandmother used to help friends who lived like this with transportation to the store for supplies.
Cabin is unique, this young guy has resilience to cart all the building materials by hand- wow!
I just love this so much. The location is the best part, and those windows looking out into the forest.. just pure magic. Thanks for the wonderful inspiration, really enjoyed this video and hearing Jacob's insights
Awesome video, Bryce! You really connect with people and their visions. No one does yours like you. You're the best!
He's so right: you need to see and believe that the value of living simply and remotely is intangible. Otherwise, why do it? What a fantastic place to call home
Who's up to going off grid? Just a couple of people having fun & being young
What's youth got to do with anything?
He’s so talented 👏🏻
That's a beautiful place to go to get your sanity back 😀 that was a great video. Thanks man !
This isn't for me but I have to give Jacob a lot of credit for what he's accomplished. Wow! Thanks Bryce for another awesome video. Take care my friend.
This kind of cabin certainly isn't for everyone! Especially not for a long-term living situation. Especially for someone in their early 20's going through school, what an amazing experience to be able to look back on! :)
Hi Bryce! Thanks for the great video. Isn't Washington AMAZING! A few years ago, I was quite fortunate to live in the Cascades for a few months off grid in a tiny, really old travel trailer. The views are stunning everywhere you look! :D Safe travels & Enjoy!
It really is such an incredible state. I am completely blown away by the stunning forests. I've never seen anything like it before! The entire pacific northwest is hauntingly beautiful. I really hope to be able to spend more time in Washington in the future.
I so love Jacob's artistic sensibility.
Love the unique lines of this cabin. Another great find!
For sure! The unique design of this cabin really sets it apart.
What a talented man he is!!!! i saw also the other videos with his work and he is amazing! love it!
Awesome job, Jacob. You should be sooo proud of what you’ve accomplished! I ❤️ it!
This must be Washington or Oregon because of the never ending ferns. Beautiful💚❤️💜💛💙🖤
Such a nice place and his philosophy . WOW
I know what you mean. I really resonated with Jacob's building philosophy. It's awesome to see cool and creative people out there doing great things in the world.
yes the windows that make you feel inside of a tree within the environment!
Damn thats beautiful! 😵 I would love to live in a place like this!
Me too! To be amongst such incredible surroundings would be magical. I really resonate with Jacobs quest for simplicity and connection with nature.
SnowmansApartment This one is too basic for me. Access is too difficult and the inside is just too bare bones.
One can’t help listening to Jacob tell his story & speak of his ideas of bare-bones simple living & not think about Thoreau’s experience at Walden pond. It may not be possible for everyone to live in such a way but we can each of us be inspired & take away ideas from their experiences & simplify our lives according to our own abilities, circumstances & desires. Many thanks to both Jacob & Bryce.
5 thumbs up to this tiny cabin ... I want to live there
Thank you for sharing this beautiful home you built for yourself. You are a great creator. Much love 💚🌻💚
So great to see tiny houses around my town Olympia!!! I hope you had a great stay here!!!
His passion is incredible, thank you for sharing
Who would EVER give this a thumbs down. Its fantastic...
Another great story, just like you promised, Bryce. Thank you!
Excellent video Bryce! Keep it up!
As a photographer I look this episode and explode in mental pictures from the loft to forest outside... wow, I just feel magic seeing the light, all those green, the trees, the rustic wood inside, uf... it's so beautiful the way Jacob see life and build tiny spaces for living it. As you Bryce, I feel just inspiration. Thanks so much for the this channel and for the effort in show to us, the marvelous work of every builder.
Love seeing tiny homes that can build under $5,000! I am working on designing and building my own tiny home for $5,000. I need all the education and inspiration I can get to follow through pn my plans. Thank you for featuring tiny houses like these!
I love your passion and kindness. Thankyou for sharing it with the world!
I would live there! Thanks for sharing these amazing videos :)
Beautiful! Can't be afraid of bugs if your gonna live there!
