- Birgu, also known by its title Città Vittoriosa ("Victorious City"), is an old fortified city on the south side of the Grand Harbour in the Southeastern Region of Malta. The city occupies a promontory of land with Fort Saint Angelo at its head and the city of Cospicua at its base. Birgu is ideally situated for safe anchorage, and over time it has developed a very long history with maritime, mercantile and military activities.

Thank you Steve for a lovely visit to the church of St Lawrence, in vittoriosa the birth place of my grandfather.
Yes must really go again...
Thank you for sharing Malta, take care, God bless you too
Thank you
Beautiful Church , so lovely ...
There are many churches in Malta
You're a great tour guide for our island. I love Birgu. I used to live in Kalkara, and walk over often. Interesting story about the cannons now on display along the waterfront...….many of the old ones from the time of the knights, were dredged up from the seabed. Others were half sunk into the ground, and the British did that to use them as mooring posts for their ships during the war. Glad they are restoring them, and displaying them now. Sadly, there are MANY still stuck half way in the ground, cemented in. I enjoyed this walk about. Thanks!
Yes, i heard that about the cannons at many places around Malta, And the french took and melted down lots, when that came to Malta to help the war effort Napoleon was almost broke before surrendering to the British in the 1800s so lots went on that time, noone was interested in history, wonder whats deep down in the grand Harbour
@@EnglishmaninMalta I'm sure the Grand Harbour holds many treasures!
Very nice, like the scalputes on the wall and the chappel inside is very interesting and beautiful.
yes that whole are need more time to walk around ...really love three cities
Thank you Steve I really enjoyed will watch again later, I am lucky enough to have been to Birgu , Where my grandfather was born and baptised in the church of St Lawrence. x
That's a awesome church ...Not as grand as the big ones..BUT...loads of history !! Thanks for your comments !!
Another wonderful share. Merry Christmas!
Wish you a wonderful Christmas and the best new year !! Think you for great support and hope both have great success on this platform ...
👍👍 for this walk. Burgui has a lot of history, it was very heavily bombed. I read somewhere that Malta has 365 churches, visit one every day for a year. Take care and stay happy 😊
Interesting! here something like that ...Never found the time to count ...Its a great city
Vittoriosa and Senglea - two of the most interesting parts of Malta. Although you didn't show it, I always find the monument depicting the sailor saying goodbye to the little girl when the British departed, to be one of the most iconic in Malta. It always brings a tear to my eye !
Not really understand you comments Chris ?? Its was a video of Birgu Why should i show Senglea ?? Or maybe you mean the monument Not even heard of it ?? Where is it ?
Only mentioned Senglea as I have a look round both there and Birgu when I go to that side of the Grand Harbour. The monument is in front of St. Lawrence church, Birgu.
beautiful MALTA place
Hellooooo Miss Pearl ..Nice to see you on my channel
What a big cannon guns lovely old building hope you have a nice weekend my dear friend 😊
Yes there are lots in Malta.....300 years old !!
I came home to Denmark in early January after 7 weeks stay in Mellieha Vacation Park in a mostly rather bad weather, which only left us a few sunny hours stay on top of the low Parks house-terrasses (but the weather was worse at home with frost and snow!). Today the Park is 99% Danish owned and we have two Danish, but Maltese based, and married guides to show us round, and also walking through the Maltese landscape. We have lately, specially visited Fort St. Angelo and I spent my time reading about the Great Osman Invasion in 1565, which was close to defeat the irritating Crusader Knights on the Islands! On a hill close by we have "The Red Tower", which is being restored and repainted, but I think it is open for visitors also? A watchtower, with cannons on top, for signalling and early defense, if an enemy came too close! They have a fine drone made film which also shows the early, star-shaped defense arrangement round the tower, which I suppose most visitors will miss, if not? Maybe an item for a, short film? It was ordered built by Grand Master, Jean Parisot de la Valette and had some 45 men staying inside as a garrison during troubled times.
Yes that area is really historic ...just pasted the red tower are some awesome areas with a open cave ..If you are ever there take a look ..Thanks for your support and hope you enjoy my videos
I'm enjoying catch up on ur vids really enjoyed this one tks
Hey Mark ..Thanks for checking me out !! Yes it's a beautiful city full of history !!
Excellent Steve. When the lockdown has been removed, will visit Birgu.
Please do! Its awesome place ..The first capital of MALTA ,
Great upload bro!! Full view 👍 Love it..
THANKS FOR GREAT SUPPORT
Another great video Steve, I couldn't get over how much restoration of that area has been carried out and how good it looks. You had me guessing at some of the places as they looked for different to what I remember them as, like at the beginning when you walked through the gate !! so I take it open to the public all the time ? many thumbs up.
Not sure how long That gate has been open, But it is the original gate. and its open to the public not sure if its closed at night.. And the war museum is underneath i really wanna go to ..Think there are tunnels and bunkers in there and some great work of arts way back to the grand masters........In the history was badly damaged with the uprising against the french, ...But it looks so good..I was running late the traffic was so bad that day...but nowadays its a real effort to get to that part of the island due to the new construction of Marsa junction...And going to be worse when they start building the fly overs....so miss a lot ...st Angelo fort looks so good , thanks charlie ...what can not understand about that part of the island...so much history so much to see but no people ??
Beautiful video to my friend - thanks for sharing

That thing that looked like a steam train would have been provided on the jetty alongside British warships that had their boilers shut down for maintenance. An insulated pipe would provide steam to the ship from those free standing steam generators so that they could maintain things like hot water services. They would usually have been operated by the ship's company stokers on the jetty. Other services provided to HM Ships would have been a 220volt DC power supply to keep electrical services, lighting, cooking and refrigeration etc. operating as normal..
Forgot to say, we called them "Donkey Boilers".
Interesting Thank you Brian
Good job
thanks xx

Birgu, holds the most historical interest for me. There's lots of places I want to see up close.
I believe the doorways are big to allow space for those on horseback and large weapons..trevoche and the like.
yes it's a great place
Nice 31st like

Thank you for comments and so sorry late reply but i missed them and then daunting to answer so many please forgive me
the church in 9:07 is the church of St.Domnic
Thank you for the info
I liked the story I heard, about the Knights mowing to their new town, Valetta, but they "forgot" to built a Palace for the Bishop and leaving their political rival, the bishop in a mostly empty Vittoriosa!
LOTS WENT ON IN THE OLD DAYS ..LOL
Hello, I am a Filipina and 51 years old, Can I still work in Malta, even in their Restaurant ?
No idea about work permits, there are many Filipinos here,
Is it an office inside?
