My roommate killed my cats and threw away all of their toys, bedding, food. This recently happened. I'm a university student new to California and I don't know my rights. I am paying my portion of my rent and my name is not on the lease. What should I do? Fly back home to Jordan? They are three Cambodian guys who say they hate muslims... what should I do?

Did you come to a decision whether to stay there in your dorm or did you move to another dorm or did you go back to Jordan or something.. and if not, please be careful around them because we don't know the extent that these guys will do to you especially they actually said that they hate muslims.
I know this is an old video but I have been watching these types of storytimes and this is the first time that someone stood up for themselves. Instead of letting the roommate walk all over them for the sake of avoiding conflict, Cassandra seems to be the first person to act accordingly to these issues. Such a breath of fresh air. Plus she's a good storyteller!

Some of these college girls think moving out is being irresponsible and "free" but you have your own responsibility when living with others! I, for example, would NOT let my apartment go dirty because that will affect me financially, deposit. There are more chances of getting some crazy bad roommate than some cool responsible roommate.

Even if the girl HAD to use your bedroom, she could've just used it to quickly change clothes and put her neatly closed suitcase back in the living room like a normal human when in an unknown place

Nope there was a bathroom to change in. There was literally no reason for the guest or even the roommate to even be in your personal bedroom.

If someone says "do you smoke" I nope tf out. Sure she has a right to live her life...and she can do it outside...but what happens when neighbors smell it and cops come knock on the door and find weed in YOUR HOUSE? You think they will believe you werent involved? My son is 19 and I tell him "dont ride with or go to homes of people smoking or underage drinking because if they get busted youre going down too". Your life can be ruined because you got charged with something that wasnt even you. and we all know the " OH THATS NOT MINE..." and she was already sus so unlikely shes gonna say its hers and take all the blame. Anyone young reading this- your friends/roomates dumb illegal sht CAN become your problem. This woman would possibly have had dealers stopping by your house. Would you feel safe? Probably not. If she owed someone money and they pull up on her they wont give af if you her friend or not and could break in, cause trouble or put you in bad situations. I let a friend move in and become my roomate when I was 18 and told her " no booze or drugs in the house...I moved out at 17 to get away from drunks and drugs and didnt want any part of that in my house and also didnt want to get arrested if she had alcohol or drugs. She skipped school (we were in high school) and while I was at school/ then work I come home and smell weed in my house. Called her right then and said "come get your shit you cant stay here" She only lived with me two months and I had to ask for rent several times before she would give it to me. In hindsight I should have called the cops on her....
Wow it’s like you legit knew what happened next! I just came out with part 2 today and it talks all about how I was the one who was accused of the drugs from the police and all!
omg just saw this. i once had the worst living experience living in an 8 bedroom house WITH ALL COLLEGE DUDES. Yo. If those crusty walls could talk..... One like never came out of his room, used all my dishes and then upon moving out around Christmas time took all of MY dishes in a cardboard box and wrote on our communal white board "MERRY DISHMAS". It was horrid.

i think i remember after getting my roommate's email i asked whether she wanted to talk by phone number or instagram and we decided instagram, so maybe social media is a primary way to communicate for some. everything else here was a red flag for me though.

This is why I moved to a different dorm after a semester lol
I had a roommate who was also my landlady. She was renting the upstairs bedroom and bathroom suite with a private balcony. I was allowed to use half of the attached garage, the laundry room, and the kitchen as per the terms of my rental agreement. I was not allowed to use the front door, the living room, or the front patio below the balcony.
My roommate/landlady was a stripper. She made a lot of money, yet was always cash strapped. She bought expensive clothes, jewelry, electronics, and small amounts of narcotics. She owned the condo where we lived but needed to rent the upstairs to someone to cover her HOA dues.
She kept a lot of narcotics, cash, electronics, and expensive clothes or shoes left out in the apartment, despite my warnings. She scoffed me when I suggested she get a safe and bolt it down, or at least consider a safe deposit box at the bank. I myself replaced the upstairs bedroom door with a solid door, heavy duty locks (think “Medico” brand), kick plates, deck screws, etc. I did the same with the walk in closet door, and I used hinge pegs for that as well. I also added Charley Bars for the upstairs sliding glass door for the balcony and a smaller Charley Bar for the bathroom window, and I used shatterproof film on the sliding door and the bathroom window. I placed my spare keys in a realtor’s lockbox for my roommate/landlady so she would be able to access it if needed (required by law for me as a tenant), but they would be safe (I didn’t trust my landlady). I also got a safe, and bolted it to the wall studs in the walk-in closet, and I kept my food in the upstairs mini fridge and freezer, the non-perishables in a small locked cupboard.
She tended to bring her work home with her, and the guys she brought home were really disreputable. Sure enough, we had multiple burglaries in her condo. They stole her money, clothes, shoes, jewelry, electronics, food, and drugs. They even took from her underwear drawer, cleaned it out. They tried to break into my room, but always failed. It got to a point where one time we were robbed, they had stolen her car while she was out of town and I had come home from work to find the garage door open and her car gone. I was glad to finally be able to move out, I was sick of having to deal with these burglaries. Also, get this, she blamed ME for these incidents.
TL/DR had a stripper roommate who rented her upstairs master suite of her condo to me. She kept bad company and didn’t secure her belongings, I secured my stuff and my living space. She got robbed repeatedly, I did not, she blamed me, I moved out when I could.

This is why I turned my living situation into big brother. Everything gets recorded 24/7 by monition in all the shared areas but the bathroom. You wanna sneak into my room? I get a notice live. Wanna try and steal my food? I'll see it all. Tired of people lying and not taking accountability.

Yeah I remember moving in a week b4 my 17th bday into college living facilities, because that’s the only place that didn’t require me to show a passport to rent from another student, and i moved in and was the first person to clean in years probably, mind you everyone paid for a cleaning lady who asked me to clean like bitch wtf, those people were at least 19+ and never cleaned, aren’t clean or hygienic, let tampons and body hair laying everywhere & they were there for like 4 days a week.. i was there 24/7 & did basically everything, also i smoked weed in that house 24/7 and nobody was going to tell me anything about that lol, to make it short, i left within 3 months because I couldn’t deal with the immaturity and disgusting behavior of these adult women 🤷♀️ also, we had locks on our doors, but i woke up one morning after a heavy night with like 8 men in my room unannounced, broke into my room by ruining my lock, i was nude so I couldn’t even do anything other than look in shock at the audacity they had, they even stared at me in my bed.. when i woke up a few hours later I wanted to go make breakfast and I couldn’t GET OUT, they fucked the lock and locked me in..

Okay Girlfriend to make coffee you must have a Brita water purifier and a Hamilton beach coffee maker. First add 1 cup of purified water to the water tank of the coffee maker. Now add 3 table spoon of ground coffee to the reusable mesh coffee basket. If you are grinding your own coffee bean then remove the mesh basket . Press the bottom button for preground coffee and the top button for self ground coffee... The difference is the brewing speed. Place your cup on the bottom tray and when the blue light goes off add 1 packet of Splenda and 1 packet of French vanilla or pumpkin spice to the coffee in your cup. Stir your coffee and drink. This part might be obvious but keep a coffee maker as far from a sink as possible. If coffee maker has a liquid pooled around it then unplug before cleaning counter top. If you see Sparks then call 911 or a friend with electrical hazard.

Call me horrible, but here are a few of my red flags.
Weed smoking
unemployment but renting an expensive room,
Not cleaning up after using kitchen or bathroom
Never cleaning common areas, especially outside of their own room
Having guests when it's not permitted in the contract.
The first two aren't necessarily an issue. But it's the combination of several things that are the red flag to me.

i had 2 roomates that let their dog piss and poop all over my stuff in my room , i was gone for a few days which im a adult and can do and i communicated alot with them well when i came for my stuff when i told them i am moving out i walked in and the door was open and all i saw was my stuff everywhere and i know i left it clean my door was broke down too , they were obviously salty i was leaving

I’m a pothead and have the decency to not smoke in the apartment. I love the smell myself but it’s not for everyone and not worth getting in trouble over some grass. She could have taken it outside. It will come off of her after a fresh sesh tho so it’s not like the smell doesn’t exist. Weed (especially legal stuff) if strongg 😅

I love college so much and im in the 9th in college.
Mine wont let me eat demands to use counter everytime i go to use the counter to pre cook a. Meal or even use the microwave. She wont compromise she times it for when im eating. Im now skipping my dinners. Im 36kg and very anemic. She woke me up so early id to alter my day for 5 am. Shes evil and im making arrangements to move away.

To be honest you knew it wasn't going to work from the start but you just ignored it. She told you she is a criminal when she first met you. I have gotten into so much trouble in the past feeling people out instead of following my gut from the start. Anyway thats the lesson I've learned with hot messes that I come across:)

They did have locks. My lock just didn't work, so they had to replace my whole door knob. Just ended up being a sucky situation lol
Honestly another part of the problem was the apartment complex itself. Ive never heard of an apartment so strict that it requires ID's for guests (although I've never lived in that type of apartment building so maybe thats normal for those). Combined with a mess of a girl like you're roommate, what a crazy bad combo lol

Your second message (the first one your showing) had a weird tone to it. She was being super apologetic and you just came off a little rude. All you had to say at that point was yeah it does linger around so thanks for that. She already said she was going to stop (not done the video so idk if she actually stopped or not 😂) and you came back in telling her to just smoke it outside when that had already been addressed. It honestly would’ve have rubbed me the wrong way but ofc she shouldn’t have been smoking in there anyway

It’s horrible having a roommate specially if they are messy and nasty. I have a place and I have a roommate that will soon move thank god! And I cannot wait! I’m a very clean person and my apt is always clean but my roommates room stinks! And the horrible smell is coming out of my roommates rooms all the way to the kitchen and living room it’s disgusting smelling dirty socks ! Can’t wait for this person to move out!
