Not bad at all! I just upgraded from this card just over a year ago to an RX 580. I had an old I7 950 first gen cpu since 2009 upgraded to an Ryzen 3700x, this system gave me a great 10 years. I'm glad to see this card still keeps up!

@@spegy624 Yep R6 runs pretty good, though I wanted to be able to run Forza Horizon 4 and RDR 2 so I upgraded to a GTX 670. The 460 would've been able to handle FH4 if it had DX12 support. Anyway I can run FH4 on all High settings at a constant 30fps @ 1080p though 670 struggles with RDR 2 as only runs on low @ 720p.

@@spegy624 No problem. Yeah a 1060 would be a pretty good upgrade. Though our CPUs i5 2400 & 2500 are starting to become a bottleneck now, plus the ram too. I've got 8GB. With the 670 on FH4 I'm maxing out CPU, GPU & Ram so if we upgraded to a 1060, yeah it would definitely improve things and still worth the upgrade but our CPU/Ram would be holding it back a bit.

I just bought 12 of these cards for low level budget systems. Mainly for fortnite. With taxes and shipping I only paid $29.00 a card. Not bad considering all the crazy prices we are seeing for cards right now.

what drivers version? from where did you downloaded them? I tried to download from nvidia older drivers section and it downloaded a 32 bit version installer that refussed to work in win 10 64 bits....
What are you talking about? I went to Nvidia right now and checked 400 series then 460. 391.35 is the latest driver.

Yep, it'll be a good balanced system.
You should get Pretty much the same or better FPS (depending on your GTX 460).
As for CPU can go 3570 (they are 28$ i believe, abit cheaper then month ago)
Or you can by Xeon variants of i5's LGA 1155. from aliexpress.com
It will be sufficient for GTX 460 or better GPU in any case.

purchased a gt 1030 a few days ago, so I moved the 460 to another pc.
These two gpu's would be with me while waiting for gpu prices to go down. Btw, my GTX 460 is the msi version, it's quite silent even though it has a large spinning fan - great gpu.
Very nice. GT 1030 would be a nice addition and upgrade. I think we stumbled apon MSI version of GTX 460 they had quite decent design back then.
@@ZGI the msi version I have has "msi" written at center, and "cyclone" written at the side. Actually, the 460 still has an important mission to do for me. Placed it in backup pc with Windows 7. The reason for W7 is because one of my games, Otomedius does not run in Windows 10 (the pc where the gt 1030 is installed has W10).

Yes, it can be playable with lightning and shadows on high. It usually hovers around 55+ Average FPS.

After quite a few years of using this card alongside my 2500K, I just today went and bought an RX 5600 XT to replace my aging 460 :)
The 2500K is still paired with this new card and will require an overclock to about 5GHz haha, however, my 460 can finally rest it's 1GB of VRAM lol

These little old cards are much better options than those terribly expensive these days, GT 710s that are mostly selling. Only necessity a good enough PSU for the extra wattage.

@@ZGI I heard that nvidia cards that have a "6" in the number name are their mainstream purpose cards, which is why the 460 is tough. With GPU prices so high these days, would have to rely on my 460 a little bit longer. Will take about two more months before I can save up to buy a new GPU. And even when I acquire a new GPU, the old 460 will still be used at the backup pc. :)

Using the newest for this particular gpu aswell. I believe driver version was 391.35 WHQL from Nvidia's website.
I bought some days ago a gtx 460 windoforce from Gigabyte. It has 1 gb of v ram I think it will help very much. I will use it for 3d softwares and CAD. btw I only paid it 20$ on the used market

That can happen for a numerous of reasons. Thermal issues, faulty hardware, faulty software, bad drivers etc..
You will have to check temperatures first.

Just picked up an old Alienware with this card, I know virtually nothing els about the specs but how viable would it be to slap a new graphics card in there?
Hmm it really depends mostly on the CPU and Ram sitting inside. Alienware's history is quite well when it comes to that subject, they have decent specs.
So even if its 10year old then Yes a new graphics card (mid-range) upgrade should do just fine.

I would suggest if one starts from:
50-60$ Nvidia 750Ti is a great midrange cpu.
For 70-80$ Nvidia 950 or 960 ( upgrade from 750ti).
And lastly for 80-110$ - AMD's RX470 or Rx570 or RX 580 would do best.
Everything above that would be overkill and the CPU sill become a bottleneck.

I believe it was PNY Nvidia GTX 460 768mb GDDR5, not sure though about the model.

download official drivers from Nvidia's website.
> Search for Geforce then 400 series and your current windows and choose the latest WHQL drivers.

If that doesn't work i would strongly advise using DDU (Display Driver Uninstaler) in safe mode and uninstall your current nvidia drivers, and install the previous ones.

On the shown video i usually take the ryzen 1600. But as i stated they all pretty much performed similarly. The GPU is the bottleneck so framerate was 1-5fps in vatiance.

Yep it will work. Although total war occasionaly relies on CPU more then GPU. Anyhow, it should be playable.

Sadly that CPU is quite old now and it won't render the games playable.
Try to upgrade to Core 2 quad (quad core) they are dirt cheap 7-20$ (search aliexpress Q9500 or similar) and it will be a Huge jump in performance from where your system is standing..

It's allrite. In terms of raw performance.
You can play 95% of games on playable framerates on 1080p
But allready showing its age with lacking Support for the latest titles like COD MW for example.
From a quick look a 560 doesn't seem much more expensive so that's probably a better buy

I believe you are referring to Q8400.
if it's a QuadCore q840/ then almost all games would be playable to a similar degree such in this video, With a loss of 2-5FPS.
If its E8600 (dual core) then most of these modern titles would not be smooth such as on 4cored CPU's

GTX 460 and hd6850 are pretty similar. The GTX 460 would be faster by a very small margin.
But beware, there are 760mb versions of gtx 460 or SE which are slower. So choose carefully.
What about rainbow six siege at 1080p low?
We haven't tested it, but it should be fairly playable on that resolution/detail.

Sadly e8400 is now getting old.
And it will not get similar fps.
There are two ways to improve your system:
1) Overclock it to the max
2) Upgrade it to ANY quadcore from -> q8400 to Q9550 (7$ -15$) anyone can afford that and its a brilliant upgrade.
It will change your whole gaming experience.

Its a decent combination. But,
I would recommend upgrading the GPU(460gtx).
To something like rx 470 or rx580 if on a budget. Or Something more expensive.
The CPU will hold nice maybe a couple of years in future and 16gb is Optimal amount of ram.
Games will be considerably more playable and beautiful visually.

Performance wise they are about the same.
HD 7750 is newer, supports DX 12 (therefore newer games CAN be played/supported)
and it's much more power efficient (doesn't require extra PCI 6 power cable)
We would most definitely go with HD 7750.

Yes ufcourse. It will be like testing the limit of the GPU since it'll be the obvious bottleneck.
Nonetheless, It should perform Admirably in the majority of games except Directx12 ones.

Yes indeed. It should be good enough even for High. You should achieve more then 100fps on 720p without issues.

Only when upping the resolution above 900p, But the difference is almost negligible.
It will perform admirably in almost all titles mentioned.

Suggestion to Download HWmonitor, check the temperatures if they are within margin of specs per component.
Or download software for testing stability like, Furmark (graphic card), Prime95 (cpu), Memtest86 (memory)

Forza 3 and Forza 4 crashes in our case. Didn't figured out if it was the drivers or it just isn't supported for 400 and 500 series.

@@user-yp6dz4jl4j fortnite is in a really bad spot now with optimization. I have benefitted from reducing my resolution to 720p to climb over 75 FPS. Maybe check settings like multicore rendering, direct X version, and maybe if vsync is on.

Is it choppy for example goes down to 1fps then returns to constant smooth gameplay?
Fortnite on your current setup should be smooth in Any scenario.
