In Brazil 10 years ago a PRIEST died on the ocean because he tied himself on balloons and just went of. The only problem was he didn't know how to use the GPS he took on the adventure. The guy was never been found and became to this day one of our best memes.
There are people who swim long distances in the ocean and they're able to do that because they have a safety boat. Reza needs a safety boat.
No way that it cost $144,000 to "rescue" this man. If he wants to kill himself out at sea in a bubble where it doesn't harm anyone else, just let him. Sinking it WITH ALL HIS STUFF STILL INSIDE is also absolutely insane, and the nasty smirk of that official while he's talking about the cost and shooting the bubble gives me some serious power complex vibes. It's a super sad story from all sides.

I mean, you're talking salaries of all the people involved with tracking him, sometimes via satellite, all the Coast Guard members on the two boats we saw (there could well be several more boats involved), and they had taken him to court so there are legal fees, they had to have someone monitor his social media, they impounded his bubble, had to have him arrested, processed, use a munition to sink the bubble, have their communications team in contact with local vessels to prevent collisions and dangerous wrecks, and so much more I don't even know about, BECAUSE I'M NOT A SAILOR. I could see it stacking up like that. Those resources had to be used on his stupid plan and diverted away from other efforts. If some innocent person had an actual emergency and died because they were dealing with bubble boy, it would only be a worse situation. And, it would have cost significantly more for them to do search and rescue efforts if they hadn't stopped him the second time and he had gone missing.

This guy would probably go like 10-20 miles AT best per day (before accounting for the waves and current sending him entirely off course and losing his progress). There is no way he had enough food and water to do this for months lmfao
10-20 miles a day is extremely generous, it seems that the speed he was moving is even slower than a normal walking speed like he was barely overcoming the normal movement of the ocean water.
Thing is, if he got in contact with the right people and had a safety vessel follow him the whole way, I bet he could do this legally. But he's just too Floridian to do extreme sports in any conventional way.
