Very nice recipe. We in the West Indies have something similar called bakes, Jonny cake’s different islands call them different name . Only difference is we don’t add so much sugar and don’t knead it with milk and d add one use yeast as a rising agent . This really looks delicious and I am definitely going to try it out this weekend . Heard so much about it from my nephew who loves to eat them when he goes to Kenya!

Hi Scovia - does this come out diff to using yeast? I always use yeast but also it fails as the mandazin don’t become hollow they just stay flat. So is there a difference in using baking powder?
OMG I have ben looking for this recipe but i had forgotten the name of these. Mandazi. We had our conference in Sarova sands in Mombasa and we ate these. I asked the staff for the recipe & ingredients they said I might not have them here in South Africa. I knew she was lying. Thank you thank you for this. I will definitely try making them.
